  1. Very nicely done. Usually hacked to bits in that situation, makes a change to see cherry done with patience.
  2. Homelite (cant remeber model) My Dad bought it new in the early '70s and I was probably about 9 or 10 when I first used it. It had no brake, no av and a manual oiler. It wasnt a bad thing really back then.
  3. Another reality check was a quote from Jeremy Clarkson. Basically if we keep our gas guzzling motors on the road for the next 30 years, they will produce less carbon footprint than the manufacture of a "green" car.
  4. I point blank refuse to do mates/family rates. The way I look at it is, if, like in my case you sell all your firewood every year at say £80 per cube, but offer 20 cube to "mates" at £60 then end up turning "normal" customers away at the end of the season your "mates" have cost you £400. They will not appreciate this, and are very unlikely to return the favour as they paid you fair and square. Only way is full price or free. With free they know its a favour that needs returning.
  5. Was going to add the same as Felix said, but also, that trailer will hold nearer 2 cube when full. Going by your description of mixed varieties, if there is between 50-75% hardwood mix that stuff should be worth about £75 per cube when seasoned. If you take off say £10 per cube for it being green, thats £130 for your trailer full. If you're delivering it as full as in the pic, I'd say you have less than 1.5 cube there, possibly 1.4. So that load should be worth £91. Thats just my take on it, and it shouldnt matter if the customers are mates or not.
  6. Never realised he was still having troubles with his health until the end of the programme. An outstanding character with so much to give. Wish him all the best.
  7. On now. Old Frank sure wears his heart on his shoulder! Top man. .
  8. Here you go mate. The secretary(wife) just told me they were £30 inc postage. I think they are around £50 to buy new. As a bit of a deal for Arbtalk, if you want them how about you send £20 as a donation to Steve Bullman and I'll pay for the post and send them off to you. Here's the pic, they are 2.5" from shank to point.
  9. If you bare with me, I'll go get them and take a pic then you know what your getting. Cant seem to remember how much I paid for the pole gaffs now, so not sure what they are worth but they could have been £25 plus post second hand.
  10. I have a pair of longer Klein gaffs on the bench if you are interested. They are whats described as "tree gaffs", and I believe they are over 2" long. Possibly 2.5". I dont climb as often now so just run the pole gaffs, and generally cant be bothered to swap them over if the need arose.
  11. So what "powers" do each of the various bodies have? At one point, VOSA didnt have the power to stop you on the road and needed plod there to stop you, then they could check you out. I seem to think this may have changed now though? In Lyn Eds case, I believe if you had got off the road and onto private land, VOSA couldnt have done anything to you. That also may have changed now. Customs didnt used to have power to stop, but they had power of access onto private property(and impound) So is there anyone with an upto date list or link as amny things have changed over the last few years, and unfortunately it is upto "us" to know what the latest regs are?
  12. Ooops! Very sorry to say, but it splits very easily and appears it will be good calorific value next winter:blushing: .
  13. Very nice tool there Skyhuck. Cheap as chips and handy too. Worth looking at IMO.
  14. Cant be of much help as to one local to you, but Im doing one the same at the moment. The company Im using is in North Lincolnshire so I guess thats out. Nene Overland do a reasonable quality one but were too far away for me too. What sort of budget are you looking at as they seem to vary....a LOT?
  15. My understanding too. Around here pleached are usually nursery trained on frames and sold, whereas espalier are planted in situe at a much earlier stage and then shaped. Perhaps not strictly the rule everyhere mind:thumbup1:
  16. Great its turning out ok for you Chris, nice to hear she's alive again:thumbup1: If only I were still cutting as well as I was when that saw was new! I remember back in the '80's we had 3 saws for woodland work. A 181 with 16" bar for lifting stands, a 181 with 20" bar for thinnings and a 181 with 28" bar for big work. Not sure I could lift one of those all day long knocking twigs off standing larch like I could, think my arms would drop off now!
  17. As said, will vary dependant on model but I think the most with each is 2100kg for the long wheelbase tranny with double wheels, and 3500kgs for the defender.

    ebay

Got an item on there now myself. The place is unbelievable! My items been on 6 days and finishes tomorrow, its got 46 viewers, Ive had over a dozen questions, and its got 1 bid on it!
  19. Very true, the parent company is Blount International. Carlton is another brother to Oregon and Windsor, but they always seem to charge more for the Oregon version over here!
  20. Done some hunting around! These guys sell a lot of Windsor chain so may have it on the reel to cut to size for you. If you aren't familiar with Windsor, I have used a lot of it, full chisel, semi, skip and even ripping chain. Cant fault it, and its a lot cheaper than the usuals. Click on the link "Windsor Forestry Tools" and that opens Windsor site. I'm assuming Nordic will be able to get you anything listed there. Hope it helps. Welcome to Nordic Forest | Nordic Tyres .
  21. As above, avoid if possible. Any tip pruning can cause die back. Never heard of anyone removing heavier stuff though.
  22. In defence of the 180, I found them to have an excellent blade like the rest of the range, but the handle was the cheap bit. For £13 or so, there is little else that will leave a clean cut like the Fox, and its great for the lads, it will fit in a pocket, do an excellent pruning job, and if it gets lost its not the end of the world. Well worth the money IMO.
  23. Not sure if this is still up for grabs? If it is I'd be interested for beer, and I'm visiting the lakes in the not too distant future so could collect?
  24. Malham is a lovely place Jon for sure. Easy, sounds interesting about the corona, might be worth trying some. Do they last as well as felco, as I've thought they don't seem as robustly built?
