  1. This is how you calculate your rates. Work out your overheads for the first year. Add on whatever you want to earn. Divide by the number of days you want to work. That is the amount you need to bring in every day you work.

  3. Better off with an extrusion than folded sheet, the extrusions are a stiffer grade of metal. Channel or box probably best.

  5. Class one double braid http://www.samsonrope.com/Documents/Splice%20Instructions/DblBrd_C1_Eye%20Splice_AUG2012_WEB.pdf If you haven't done a double braid before blaze probably isn't the one to start on....
  6. A blakes will work with same diameter hitch cord and rope, vt I find works better with smaller hitch cords. Bit of trial and error within guidelines is the best way really.
  7. Ouch! Glad your all ok.
  8. Most arb double braids are roughly 50/50.
  9. Never done any of that, is it quite a loose construction? Some of the marrow DB sailing ropes are ridiculously easy to splice compared to arb ropes.

  16. Don't forget as a subbie you get to offset your expenses against tax liabilities and only pay a tiny amount of NI. I used to do very well as a subbie, much better off financially than as an employee, and less stress and hours than running a contracting co.
  17. There is a Stephenson tree services in Yorkshire
  18. Only if the climber is prepared to carry the boss around the tree in a basket all day.
  19. Farmi CH260, 10" capacity but will run fine on 85 hp.
  20. Sorry to hear that, hope it was insured.
  21. Elaborate "hoax", they were so committed to "faking" that x ray he actually stick a chainsaw in his neck. Chain was cut because he was using a husky topper with an outboard clutch. Some people are just so cynical. Cutting it close: Pa man survives accident with chainsaw in his neck - CNN.com
  22. Start with the smallest one, fell and count the rings, work up in size until you fell one with 42 rings and then grind that one out quickly.
  23. At least you didnt get the trots, no-one likes to get saddled with that.
  24. Deal with it that way you would any enquiry. If you want the work tell them the price, if you don't want to do it tell them that. If you don't want enquiries on a Sunday evening turn your phone off.

About

Arbtalk.co.uk is a hub for the arboriculture industry in the UK.

If you would like to contribute to making this industry more effective and safe then welcome.
Just like a living tree, it'll always be a work in progress.
Please have a look around, sign up, share and contribute the best you have.
