  1. Won't be bone dry, hate to think how long it would take to dry properly in the round, it's at least 3 ft diameter.
  2. Iv got a bit of gnarly beech that would fit the bill.
  3. Get yourself up to Shropshire for the ISA event in May, there are several threads on here about it.
  4. Ewwwwww!
  5. Sometimes grown ups argue, it doesn't mean they don't love each other any more.
  6. I generally find my TM helps with back pain, if I start the day feeling a bit stiff and achy a few hours in the harness and I'm feeling a lot better. I alternate the saw between both sides of the harness and branch walk either to the left or right, doing one repeated movement the same way isn't good for you. Pretty sure working on spikes, especially with a heavy saw isn't too good for you either.
  7. I do, but not used rope if I can avoid it, any dirt works it's way into the fibres and makes splicing extremely difficult. Can be done, but it's not much fun.
  8. Silver streak is a class one double braid. You can download splicing instructions from Samson, or get their free app. I use 21x diameter for all my class 1 DB splices.
  9. I use an ART Ropeguide actually, but they are £165 as opposed to £35 for one of these. Stein cambium saver with ISC steel rings | F R Jones and Son
  10. Wouldn't bother with the pulley tbh, 2 ring is fine, get an adjustable if you feel its worth the extra.
  11. Cambium saver on any size rope, not just for rope wear but reduced friction makes the work easier. A 2 ring version is 100% better than natural crotch, and a pulley version is about 10% better than the 2 ring. Get a reasonably long one, around 90cm as this will give you more options when choosing an anchor point. Plastic ball or overhand knot to retrieve. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App

I have mostly Teng, all been excellent so far. Britool, Facom and Snap On are all good but more expensive. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  14. 32 tonnes. I would agree about going straight to C, unless you're under 21.

    Timber lorry

Buy a tipper spec chassis cab and then have the body and crane fitted. Alucar are probably the market leader, they are Finnish but there are companies in the uk that can fit them. Alucar

    Timber lorry

18 tonne is the biggest you can go on 2 axles, 16 would just be a downrated 18 tonner. No one runs them as timber lorries though, you would need to convert one. I bought an 18 tonne flat with a palfinger crane, and put some bolsters on it. Fitting a timber crane would be simple enough if you didn't want a lorry loader type though. Any commercial bodybuilder could do the work, as for finding one there will be lots on truck trader. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  17. Only when I really have to. Easy Books is a much better way.
  18.
  19. Possible yes, but far too complicated and time consuming to be worthwhile IMO.
  20. Any tree can be climbed, but since it's right next its right next to a Tarmac path why wouldn't you put a mewp on it?
  21. Think you forgot a day at Barcham's in that list David.
  22. Yeah, Arb double braid is very different to sailors splicing. You need to be much more careful with the splice before and during the final bury, some people stitch the crossover together. Also keeping it under tension as you bury it is important.
  23. Try Rob Blake in Bridgwater, he may be able to help you out. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  24. Work the splice back out of the bury. Best case scenario you sort the crossover out, stitch it up tight and re bury it. Worse case it's too knackered from the pushing with a screwdriver and you'll have to chop it off. What type of rope does your brother normally splice? Arb ropes are much tighter than normal double braids. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
