  1. It may well be possible to get people on site early enough on the Friday to do that, if there were only one event per year. I know you have been saying one big event for years, and I agree with you completely.
  2. Yes sure. Provided the entries are in in advance, and all the kit checks and the walk round are done on time etc. This is were we always fall down imo. To answer your original question, up to £100 is fair i think for a well organised event.
  3. If the event was organised well in advance, ie now for next season, and properly marketed, then the numbers will come up. Thinking back to about 4-5 years ago, we regularly had 40-50 competitors at the big events. Economic downturn or none, there are still plenty of climbers out there. Do you have a venue in mind? Good luck with it, I for one would really like to see a return to the golden days.
  4. Absolutely, and a cycle race is a much bigger event than the climbing comps. What I am wondering is why there are so few people who are actually getting involved in the organisation?
  5. Thats a valid comment, however I must point out that the ISA dont organise the comps. All of the work, and there is a lot more of it than you might think, is done by volunteers, all of whom have jobs or businesses to run. Additionally, the organiser is often the only person left who is willing to have a go, everyone else having taken a big step back when help is asked for. The general feeling among those of us who are involved in organising is that we really only have enough resources to organise one event per year, and thats only if a few more people are willing to step up and help out.

Looking good there Tommy, but do you really only have 3 fingers?
  7. Deffo get a smiley face, mine did sterling service and is still hard at it for another tree firm.
  8. This chap is just over the border in Cambs. Chain Creations - Chainsaw carving in East Anglia
  9. Say what now?! I'd better say my goodbyes cos if thats true I'll be going inside for a long time, hardly a week goes by without a 660 dangling, and sometimes an 880 too.
  10. TBH I have never tried to splice xtc 12, did have a piece somewhere but have never used it for anything.
  11. The lower dees are so comfy when your standing on a pole on spikes, no hip crushing at all. My only problem is that it tends to slip down a bit, especially with a 660 hanging on it. I have 3 wiregate biners on there for odds and ends of gear, they are great because they lie flat against the harness and dont get caught on branches and stuff.
  12. We will be there Jo.
  13. I'll be there, you able to make this one Stu? Its not been the same without you!
  14. I would try this one. http://www.samsonrope.com/get.php?file=141 Have you tapered that bury?
  15. Does need a bit of tweaking to get it right, but once you have it set up I think you will like it. Have you tried the lower side dees on spikes yet?
  16. This is conifer aphid damage, it looks quite distinctive. On of my clients reckons Bio Provado (active ingredient imidacloprid) controls the aphid.
  17. Too hot for type c's?! What are they again?! How are you liking the Treemotion?
  18. Were you flashing old ladies again Liam?!
  19. French chalk, not much good for ropes no.
  20. You can have a fiddle with my toss wand next time your up here if you want.
  21. Whoever comes up with a method for marking black ropes will be my personal hero! I tend to dispense with most of the marking on black cords. I find the extraction point and pull the core immediately, and pull the cover strands for the taper as I count them. The other side of the eye is wherever it ends up, which is why the eye is a little tighter than I planned, and I dont mark the end of the core bury until I'm ready to do it. Its not perfect but it works for me!
  22. Here's a selection of my splices, and my most recent attempt, and 10mm liros lanyard, also a link to a facebook hand splicing group. http://www.facebook.com/#!/group.php?gid=115572681823687
  23. Buy one from Nod. Having said that, I dont use a fid at all for double braid, toss wand all the way.
