Theres a paywall buy im  guessing bad diets no exercise & obesity plus poverty &  poor housing are decreasing lifespans among the less affluent?

Goes into the details:

A substantial number of English communities experienced a decline in life expectancy from 2010-2019, Imperial College...

Quote

“Declines in life expectancy used to be rare in wealthy countries like the UK, and happened when there were major adversities like wars and pandemics. For such declines to be seen in ‘normal times’ before the pandemic is alarming, and signals ongoing policy failures to tackle poverty and provide adequate social support and health care.”

That's odd, it let me read that FT article in full the time I looked. It seems to work if you get to it via a Google search, rather than directly from a link.

But yeah, the gist of it was as you said; "bad diets no exercise & obesity plus poverty &  poor housing are decreasing lifespans among the less affluent". Plus some Covid effect.

I think people are pissed off with living too long.

They get to 75 or whatever and think ‘that’s enough of that, pass the whisky for my cornflakes, I don’t give a toss anymore’

There's a serious point behind that: the difference between Life Expectancy and Healthy Life Expectancy. What's the point of living until 80 if the last 15 years or so are lived in ill health or in a care home?

Might as well kick-on with the boozy breakfasts from 65.
