I say this for your own good Ed, your’e better off investing your time and money in getting yourself a new job.

Save some money, get some pros in to remove them completely, and plant something more appealing that you can keep on top of yourself.

Removal won’t double the quote of topping.

’Topping’ that one tree to 10’ yourself will make sod-all difference to the price, it will almost certainly kill it, will achieve nothing and you will hurt yourself or something around you.

Anyone who has suggested suitable handsaws etc. should hang their heads in shame.

This is a pro site, where amateurs are very welcome to accept (FREE) pro advice.

None of us have got anything to gain by this, unless they live within about 2 miles away from you in London.

It was pretty big last time I was there.

You come across as pretty intelligent, don’t become another accident statistic.

Also, those trees are probably full of nesting pigeons and doves right now, which is another minefield….

Having read this with interest ,I’d say there is next to no point attempting this and will likely end in regret in one way or another ,if the one highlighted in green is the priority why not go half with the neighbor and just get that one lopped for now .

You do know if you, or whoever, ‘top them out’ they will grow back, right?

About 3’ every year, and wider….

Not if he strips all the branches off on the way up up ladder, pollarded connifers seem to be a thing at the moment 🤣
