At the risk making light of such serious matters, I kind of chuckled to myself when hearing a particular report outlining the food sector companies to withdraw operations from Russia -  MacDonalds, Starbucks and CocaCola to name a few......Sounds like an absolute bonus to me!

A friend of mine used to go to the Czech Grand Prix every year pre MacDonalds over there, and his biggest impression of the place was that the women were mostly slim and beautiful.. hardly any fatties😄 probly changed now.

That used to be one of great things about Eastern European countries;- hardly any fatties to be seen as there were no Macdonald's, (and barely any other fast food joints or convenience/processed foods available).

I went to Ljubljana, Slovenia, once, it was a jaw dropping experience. All the women were like models. [emoji3]

A big part of it is that they couldn’t afford enough food to be fat.

I drove through Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia back in 1994 and everyone was thin - food was expensive and wages low. Not been back since so can’t compare how it is now

M’y brother did a bit of a road trip to Russia a couple of years back.

Said the cities like Saint Petersburg and Astrakhan were fairly impressive.

Nearly everywhere in between was fairly grim, god awful roads, you couldn’t drive at night because you couldn’t see the potholes which would destroy your vehicle.

People living in medieval conditions in the countryside, really poor infrastructure.

Once he crossed the border into Poland from Ukraine on his way back it was like he was in Germany (his words) lovely straight well surfaced roads, nice houses etc.

One of the reasons he’s a big fan of the EU.

You don’t wonder why the Ukrainians look west and want some of that.
