I have heard the theory more than once that as long as the trailer has a plate registered to the same owner and address then it's ok if it doesn't match the vehicle. I would really like to know if this is right, firm I sub to have 3 trucks and 2 chippers and rarely match so also question if it's driver offence?

That used to be the special case for agricultural trailers not normal road going vehicles

It used to be a £30 fine for the driver, no points etc. Not sure if that’s still the same but has been whenever we’ve had an issue.
