If budgets are tight you can't beat a tractor and loader IMO. It's all I had for many years and did all that was required just a bit more slowly than a dedicated loader but as said they come with a hefty price tag. If you are getting more serious with logs a tractor can also run a nice PTO splitter at a later date.

You should also look at a mini loader will lift and shift pull a trailer bucket for muck hydraulic power for splitter avant multione or similar lighter on its feet than telehandler out lifts telehandler weight for weight  will hold its value parts and fixing fairly simple

You’ll get a lot of telehandler compared to Tractor for the money, a lot less to go wrong and cheaper to run/own if you get the right one and should be fairly bombproof. But as said already you’ll be probably looking at 5-7 t plus whatever load you’ve got on.

Yes you may but No point in a teleporter if only moving half a ton to a ton about.

Depends what a small budget is and what other tasks you could utilise it for, if you have paddock work ie mowing, ploughing etc.. get a small tractor or compact tractor with front loader. It's more versatile and has a pto and links.. rare on a telehandler/forklift etc. Especially on the lower end of the price scale. Be wary of the small compacts.. lift capacity is low and a lot of them, whilst having low hours, may have been overworked. If no pto work is required maybe consider a 3ton digger with a thumb grab, great for shifting logs and with a tow bar welded to the top of the blade it can pull a trailer. Also very versatile, once you have an auxiliary flow and return.. hedge trimmer, saw, breaker, screw splitter, auger..
I guess it's a trade off between what you can afford and what you need.. 3k will get you a rough but hopefully reliable older tractor or a poor compact tractor. Likewise 5 k might get you a digger but not much in the line of attachments. An old telehandler/all terrain forklift can be a great machine but as said here already they are heavy.. not that good on land and a bit of a one trick pony in that they can lift and move something and little else. It all depends on what suits your needs best.. just don't be tempted to buy the newest, cheapest thing you can afford! Older, cleaner equipment is usually a safer option for a low budget buy.. often less to go wrong and stronger built.

best answer to this problem is tractor with loader and forklift on 3 point linkage,a tractor is a very versaitile tool as there is so many options as what you can do with it, if you have a small holding you would find many other uses for a tractor as appossed to a tele handler, with a tractor you could spread shit, saw till, mow grass, bale grass, run a firewood processor, run log splitter etc etc the list is endless, could you do all them tasks and more besides with a tele handler ?????, i have a old 1970 david brown 780 with loader and a sanderson 3 point linkage forklift at the rear manages to do every thing i ask of it and it aint sat there loosing money as its more likely gaining value,

No ones moving a ton about on a cheap compact tractor either. Be better off with a saw and wheelbarrow! If budget tight as said originally and you want something to lift and move heavy things as said originally a telehandler is the best bet I’d say.
