Climbers who seem to think its a massive hardship to climb a tree with a chainsaw and insist on having it tied on once they get to the top.  This seems to be a newbie thing, or a company specific thing.  I'm all for making things easier for my climber but does strapping a small saw on his waist as he climbs really cause too much inconvenience?  Then they get to the top and everything both top and bottom has to grind to a halt while he the groundies work is interupted to tie his saw on, then the climber hauls it up.  Might be being a bit pedantic, but its a completely unnecessary pause in the work flow.

" Tying "  it on is not such a big deal ( just grab a bight twist it pull the line through the loop and clip the beener on )  When the climber un clips it the rope fall strait with no knot to undo . You would have to do this at a fill up anyway .

Depends if its a prune or a removal. If I SRT to the top I dont like to have my saw as the teeth can grab on the access line and pull strands. Plus a long SRT is noticeably easier without the additional weight

I have to confess this bugs me also.

I've noted though that the offenders generally seem to be the ones that only last 12 months in the industry, coincidence?

If a groundie couldn't be arsed tying my saw on there is no way he would last 12 months! What else would they be doing that is more important than looking after their climber. I see it as part of the job, fuel the saw while I go up then spend 10 seconds at the most tying it on.

I heard you used to make your groundie climb up and bring the saw to you.

For as long as I remember it was normal for the groundie to fill the saws, warm them up if necessary and tie them on when required, while the climber sorts out his gear and starts climbing. Also not unusual for the climber to ask for a top handle saw to climb with on a dismantle where it's more convenient to remove small branches on the way up, from a strop and with spikes.

But today the groundie is too busy taking selfies, complaining how sh*t his job is on twatter/faceache and tying his bootlaces/searching for his helmet, announcing that he didn't know it was a construction site and has left his hi-viz at the yard or rolling a fag when he gets on site for stuff like that....

If I have to ask one more time for someone to fill my saw while putting on a harness, spikes, throwing a line up etc, I'll :jumping38: And when you ask someone to do it, you'd think you'd asked to sleep with their sister from the looks thrown at you.

I'm feeling grumpy tonight.:D
