I think you’d have to have smoked a lot of crack to spend £25k on a Ssangyong when a pre registered (essentially brand new) Navara Tekna is advertised at less than £21k. Both will depreciate, but you will definitely find someone to buy your Navara when you want to swap it for something else - I don’t think there will be a massive queue of punters looking for second hand Mussos unfortunately.

Bad past experience of a previous model or not, I think it would be daft to rule out the current Navara (ime the best current pickup on the market) - particularly if giving real consideration to a ssangyong!!! That would be cutting your nose off to spite your face!

Personally I think buying new trucks is a good way to lose money- but can see appeal with warranty and not buying someone else’s previous problems.

3500kg is only with the auto, also read a review somewhere and it wasn't rated that great a tow truck but was very juicy towing, iirc it averaged 18mpg and that was with only 2800kg behind it.
It isn't as fugly as the previous version but it isn't far short.

I did test drive the Ranger and I wasn't impressed. Hard, uncomfortable ride and obtrussive gearbox with a lot of random auto changes. Didn't feel quick either.

 

I'm disinclined to buy used now. The cost of repairs on an older vehicle is such an unknown. My uncle once said to me that with vehicles, you always lose money. On older vehicles it's on repairs, on newer vehicles it's depreciation. I'd rather lose on depreciation and hopefully minimise down time. I'm in the fortunate position of running two work vehicles, so always have a backup, but neither is capable of doing everything the other does.

 

Jesus, I don't know what to do. Why can't Ford just stick the 6.6l Duramax into the Ranger? I'd have that in a heartbeat!

The reports that I read were that it was a good tow vehicle, but the economy quoted by the salesman wasn't brilliant. I think it's a Mercedes engine that's in it, and I wonder if it's a previous generation model?

The old one was Merc based, this new one isn't, I believe it's their own.
I was going to demo one but the dealer won't fit a towbar to the demo truck, that speaks volumes for me.
Also been warned about the price of parts.
