I'm not sure if relevant today, but back when I was a young'n insurance costs were affected by the popularity of insurance claims, for instance mini,s were popular among young drivers , but the crash rate was high because of inexperienced drivers, the premiums reflected this, certain 4x4,s are stolen to order and gain places an increase on insurance, it might pay to approach a friendly broker and inquire as to what might be a good choice. the next year all being well and with a years experience under his belt, the choices would broaden.

Marketing / selling of any manufactured item ( woodwork or other ) is not easy , in fact it is a whole subject/ industry in itself , think of all the famous brands ,,coca cola . ferarri, stihl etc they all spend a lot of money and time / effort on marketing !! ...however for such things as woodwork then most probably country shows etc I would imagine would be best ...social media can work but is very time consuming and most followers will be other woodworkers who are unlikely to buy your work , I do a fair bit of woodturning and sell mostly through Galleries but could easily make a lot more stuff than I can sell , craft fairs can be very hit and miss ! Good luck .....

...and yet... the one who brags of the highest wages, 3 or 4 times the industry standard is the first to whinge like a bitch with every tax rise, every penny of tax money paid out, and the ones whose political affiliations are to the centre and left, barely a peep. Are you actually reading the threads in this forum?

Eventually all trees become unsafe, die, or fall over. Are you looking for us to say yes or no? This week, no. In the next 50 years, probably.

"Either, or.." - traditionally it would be re-pollarded, cutting above the 'knuckles', but if you go for a thinning out of the regrowth stems I'd stick to approx. 30%, i.e. one in every three(ish) but remember in so doing they will continue to grow in height & diameter. If tree size is an issue, and you don't want to re-pollard, i.e. to original knuckles, you could reduce the regrowth stems in height and start again, in effect, at a higher level, i.e. a high pollard...but this seems a lot of faff for little gain tbh. Good luck whichever way you go...and of course you don't need to go "any way" as you could leave it to grow on / up (unlike Poplars, Limes don;t have a propensity to fail at the knuckles.)

Anyone use pick up trucks for small/medium tree and hedge jobs?
TheTreeWrangler replied to Lou Brown's topic in Arb-Trucks
We use trucks .. we tend to chip into bags for the most, we find that it saves a bit of time, and we also deliver chips by the bag load.. small jobs id take my truck with chipper, chip to the bag, load the bags in the truck.. big jobs second truck with trailer, can chip to trailer or bags .. we have never had a problem so far.. dont get me wrong, a tipper, is the standard and were looking at picking up the right one at some stage, but having trucks is workable .. -
Don’t leave anything (machinery) on the trailer. Put the chipper in the container. Get a lock on the hitch of the chipper. Maybe even a chain around the chassis of the chipper locked to the floor. Don’t get complacent, they’re like foxes round a chicken coop, get sloppy and within days it’s gone.

Stihl MS261 and MS460. Both saws got clogged up and I had to flush out the tanks, lines and bar oil pumps inside the saws. I had done this before, so its not through lack of maintenance. Its the pretty standard ISO 100 stuff. I admit its a bit odd, they have been fine since I thinned out the bar oil.

The 1 at the front, same machine model just 1 year newer but smoother on the tracks and hydraulics.

I would have said that it depends on the "waste". Ex FIL got trailer loads from one mill and it was off cuts and bark etc which was stored outside so was very wet. He didn't get the argument that he should have been paid to take that crap away! I got a bench to go on his old Fergie, got the thing working and collected long lengths from Belvoir sawmill and spent a while slicing these off, good exercise and I could put crap into a barrow and put it on the burn heap rather than log shed. It was too much effort for him and I wasn't there that much so we went back to the crap logs! The stuff was sold as "sawmill waste", not as "firewood" as this has to be below a certain moisture content to be sold!
