Morning all. Just up, not even wordled yet. Didn't get home from work until 1am and as a creature of habit that feels very strange. Did a bit of overtime helping our surveyors with a bat survey, I've a new found respect for ecologists now! Sitting silently in the half light, staring at the roof of a church for any hint of movement, surrounded by an array of devices letting me know just how many bats I was failing to see. The whole time listening apparently to the local drug dealer on the radio channel we were using, despatching a scooter for deliveries whilst being utterly obnoxious to his customer base. I'll help them again next time. Have a good one folks, thoughts are with peds.

I have unexpected need of a pole saw, won't be in regular or commercial use. Has anybody used any of the cheapo options? I know most here will have non-domestic Stihl/Husky ones, but thought maybe somebody might have use a cheapo one in a pinch?

Yup, I fixed a 361 which had been dunked while running, the hydraulic lock when the piston hit water stopped it so suddenly that the flywheel sheared its locating key. New flywheel sorted it.

Timberwolf 125 PH Fuel Tank Leaking from drain plug
Alasdairs replied to Treewarrior's topic in Maintenance help
I have a 240 I took the drain plug out 2 years ago with no problems (probably never been out before that) put in a new compression washer and refitted the plug with no problems. A couple of months ago noticed another leak and this time the internal part in the tank now spins. I had hoped to get another tank but they are no longer available from Timberwolf. Did you get any further with your leak? -

How would that suit you?

Bolam has written most eruditely on the subject recently. Along the lines of you retire it from climbing because it can’t be trusted to support a 100kg man and the next thing you know it’s catching 400kg lumps over a £20,000 conservatory.

Harsh, but right?

There is a drain plug on the front of the tank. It takes a lot of oil mind, best make sure you're pan is big enough.

Unlikely to get bark chippings donated off here? I'd say speak to a landscape supplier and see what they can do if it must be bark.

The only times 120cc is worth it is where weight doesn't really matter and you need lots of power - milling or chunking up massive logs on the ground. I don't climb but I can't imagine that would be great.

be careful you dont get the wrong trousers and get stitched up by a penguin pretending to be a chicken

Yes, I can remember way back getting a Husky stuck at the end of the day and no other saw or axe to get it out. I tried to get the saw off the bar but couldn't quite get the chain loose enough to come over the clutch. Rather than leave it overnight I cut through the tiestrap with a felco wire cutter. @Donnie's tip of withdrawing the saw then using the nose to bore cut the kerf a bit wider repeatedly works too, as long as you do it carefully so that the bottom of the cut has closed on itself before the saw gets jammed. It can be useful if the cut has started wandering off to do this as boring is less affected by one set of cutters being biased to one side if the bar is worn.
