  2. I'm in the same situation, aged 66. I can still get up there, no problem, making a strategic cut with/without lowering gear for a big section. Not so good at going out to the periphery, or perhaps I should say useless. I have a 25 year old subbie who mentally is more like 35 -40 thank goodness, who I use for the tiring climbing work. I am now focusing on using machinery as much as possible. Currently using a very good tracked MEWP, mindigger with grab, power barrow, compact tractor with loader and 3 point winch etc. I use these to make my jobs easier, but also hire myself out with kit/experience to help a couple of local similar small firms whi have less kit.

  4. I purchased a new Hilux in Jan 2024 and the first thing I did was take it to a specialist for full waxoyl injection. And then treated any areas myself that I felt were missed. When I had the letter from Toyota about recalls I contacted my local dealer. They said they would only be inspecting it and if anything just waxing the chassis, so we agreed no point in them even looking at it. They said warranty would still be valid regardless.
  5. £40 that's a good price. Make sure you have the right gasket sealant and its worth getting new seals they are about £6 each. You cant get the main bearings from Stihl as they only come with the crank from what I can see. If the crank you are buying doesn't have the bearings fitted then take your time removing the old bearings, you could try putting the crank in the freezer for a good few hours then try to quickly heat up the inner race of the bearing to get it off. Spud might have a few tips on this. You can get a set of gaskets and the seals for about £20, part number 4282 007 1600. The sealant is a bit pricy from stihl but they recommend dirko HT red which you can get from a lot of places.

  7. Useful to know, thank you!
  8. Weird isn't it, for one who is so keen to cut all government spending, starting with any spending on humanity, JonsonDs response to this story is "move on, don't talk about it, lets talk about something else" where in reality we should be saying that everyone who took money fraudulently needs to pay is back and with interest added on top. But not old double standards JonsonD, they made bucket loads, better not talk about it, jog on to the next story please.
  9. Here's some more - not sure that they are all even fungi !!!

  12. I saw Gareth A Davies in the petrol garage a few weeks back... M&S one of course.
  13. Found this on my walk today. Have to say I've never seen anything like it - so someone please enlighten me ??? It's spherical, hard and about 3-4 inches across (keyring for reference). Tree is Goat Willow My only thought is that it is some sort of gall - but if there's a wasp in there, I definitely don't want to be around when it emerges !!!!!

  14. i wait till I get 300+ ton then hire a big slow speed shredder in and a digger with grab. We shred the lot in 24 hrs then lorry it to site and store it in a shed till we burn it. with rising costs it’s barely worth doing now tbh but I’d love the smell
  15. Nor I and I hope a renewable liquid fuel will be available at affordable prices. I do think we should stop using fossil fuels though.
  16. Fruiting bodies on the stem usually mean internal decay rather than a minor surface issue. The limb loss and slight crown dieback suggest it’s been weakening for some time. If it’s near anything important, a proper arborist check would be wise.

  22. There has been so much wrong with England that you have to wonder what's going on behind the scenes. Will we find out after the tour? Who knows but there has to be some explanation for such a dire performance; three matches done and Eng have one highlight to celebrate - Joe's ton.
