  2. @Iain Hickinbottom Also in the context future safety. I'd be wary of advertising your mobile number on a public forum like this. You never know who's looking, and there's ways of tracing numbers to addresses in some cases I think. Better to just get people to PM you instead. Best of luck with the recovery.
  3. Thank you. I concede, they are undoubtedly two strong achievements, and much needed unfortunately. They're probably exceptions though, unless you can suggest anything else that he's done to benefit us, the average hardworking people, or the planet? It's a shame that Trump couldn't personally be a bit more assertive with his best friend Putin, rather than bringing him in from the cold with the red carpet treatment. What happened to the legions of screenshots, too high a CO2 footprint?

    Mast

Yes, I was very pleasantly surprised by the size of all the fruit, given the draught we had over the summer. The only exception was the Damsons, they were noticeably small than normal. I used to make a fair bit of cider, never thought to go to the next level. Nice idea.

  6. I was in Canada in 1995 watching the Ryder cup on American TV. Europe won, and what I remember was how terrible the American commentators were about Europe's win.

  8. Patricia Crowther, aged 97. The UK's oldest witch. 'UK's oldest witch' Patricia Crowther dies aged 97 WWW.BBC.CO.UK She created the BBC Radio Sheffield show "A Spell of Witchcraft" about Wicca paganism in the 1950s.
  9. Can the LPA insist on an arborists report for notification works in CA? I don't believe they can, but stand to be corrected. The old boy who I've worked for many times is in his 80s and had filled in the form himself. Went to the local council office (not planning portal) Anyhow, he's sunning himself in the Mediterranean and the LPA rang him saying the notification has been rejected as there was no arborists report! No mention that the trees weren't clearly identifiable etc. As far as I know, it's a case of TPO or no objection to the works. Thought please

  11. Husky 540mk3 with the rear handle. They're around the 600 quid and pro.grade and have quite lot of poke for a 40cc saw. Nice and light too.
  12. Caltech Team Sets Record with 6,100-Qubit Array WWW.CALTECH.EDU The neutral-atom platform shows promise for scaling up quantum computers.
  13. Yes, I'd second Doobin's comments-you could happily run 6-8' rotary blade/swipe on 26hp, for ride maintenance, but you'd seriously struggle to power a flail with that horse power.. Swinging cutting tips are common on most large rotary cutters, and generally better than flails, unless a fine finish is specified? Doobin: you're the first person I've ever seen mowing Giant Hogweed, with a tractor mower -what happened there ! 🤭
  14. Does anyone know if there's a way of setting up the Sthil Pro-Com units, if you won't (or rather, refuse to have ) a Google/Apple account, on your phone or computer ? I really want to buy some sets, for over a year now, but just don't want my data 'shared' with all those anonymous tech 'partners'.. 🙄

  16. I'd put money on it being Sorbus or one of those newfangled Aria/Torminalis efforts. No way it's Acer, Tilia or Betula
  17. Check with Lantra or NPTC providers, sometimes they include crane work as part of their specialist courses.

    Spikes

Blunt spikes are dangerous and hard work. Sharpen them your self with a flat file on Buckinghams I just file two edges and remove the burr from the third edge.

  24. I dont think it has become a political hate forum at all. Yes some of the lounge threads can get a bit OTT at times but so what, Its the lounge section, ignore it if you must. The only way the forum can get back to the 'old days' of Arb/forestry/gear/woodwork talk if us as members move it in that direction by posting up new threads or resurrecting old ones. Forget the threads that annoy you, you wouldnt sit in a pub wasting your time listening to some shite on the next table if it didnt interest you. There are loads of members in here that are really helpful with vast amounts of knowledge, dont let a few posts/threads put you off.
  25. I've had one for 5 years and it still decent. Yes it has its teething problems but ive done some decent size trees and felt safe and comfortable
  26. I think that is Dyers Mazegill, non edible, but used for its dye, hence the name.
