  2. I know of a young chap (15-16 yrs of age) who is looking for work experience (perhaps even apprenticeship, if it all works out) near Aberystwyth. He is very keen on the outdoors and chainsaws in particular & he is on some sort of spectrum/ mildly neurodivergent as they call it nowadays I am based miles away in the SW but I wonder if anyone here could help. Many thanks.
  3. Ahh, our old favourite. Love it.
  4. There is a lot of interest in the ISC reflex at the minute. We have some info about it and the release date here ISC Reflex Mechanical Hitch - Skyland Equipment SKYLANDEQUIPMENT.COM The ISC REFLEX Mechanical Hitch is a mid-line attachable device for climbing up , down and around trees. We don't do pre orders as they can be far too much hassle for us and our customers but if anyone wants to be added to an order list then please email us here [email protected] or send a PM to me but its better to email as I'm not around on here enough. A shameless request but even if you aren't interested in the Reflex please click on the link to our web site above as its helps advertising with less funds going to google and more to arbtalk.

  7. It’s unbelievable Sime, and fair play to those boys. Did anyone else see the footage of that hench 14 year old putting all the stones on the barrels this week? I’m very lucky that at 56 I’ve never had any back issues. The rest of my body is a different story…. If I had to lift those stones though, I would just rig a contraption that fired my Beretta straight into my spine with a 36g load, because the result would be the same!
  8. Firstly I would check that the alternator belt is tight ? Try unplugging the alternator and plugging it back in ? When you turn the ignition on and go through the countdown , what's the last thing on the display before the '0' ?
  9. Hello How much are you selling it for? Does it come with the expansion POD? What is the accuracy without the GNSS Expansion POD? What makes your older device superior in your opinion? Cheers
  10. There are situations where the Council could be compelled to prune or remove, either by court order or expectation of losing a court case. Dr. Mynors observes that these rarely occur because of the cost of litigation. But not because of the absence of a right. Proving the right of self-abatement is easier than proving the case for an injunction. Mere encroachment is abatable, full stop. Forcing the tree owner to do it and pay for it appears to have a higher threshold of 'actionable nuisance'. If it is based on dampness to the building a causative link would have to be proven. I am convinced that if case law continues to dribble out until the end of time there will never be a simple rule that predicts success in litigation. The Tate Modern case recently went on for pages trying to pin down the modern law of nuisance, going far beyond what was needed for the case in hand. It alsways comes down to fact and degree, and the behaviour and depth of pockets of the combatants. Put simply, the trees have no right to be there. If they are causing damage, even indirectly, they should be removed. It is probably easier and cheaper (however galling it might feel) to take matters into you own hands than to face the expense, delays and uncertainty of forcing the tree owner to do it. But the right exists to be enforced. Have a look at Delaware Mansions v Westminster (appeal) for more on rights to injunctions and damages.

  12. Hi there, I am looking for work whether it’s full time, part time or freelance. I have experience as a groundsman on an active felling site in Bridge, I am new to the industry but am confident I can be useful to any team that will give me a chance to prove it. Recently I also got a couple of my tickets, NPTC CS30 – Chainsaw Maintenance and Cross Cutting NPTC CS31 – Felling Small Trees I'm based in Canterbury and available for immediate work or future opportunities. If you’re looking for an extra pair of hands or know of any upcoming projects that need more than one set of hands then please let me know as a friend of mine with similar experience is also looking for work.

  14. Hmmmm, I’m Pretty certain I’ve managed to make at least a couple of these over the years.
  15. Pectin plays a big part yes. That's why pippy things like raspberries make easy setting jam. But boiling time, (level of reduction), and sugar content are also big factors. Though those last two are essentially the same thing I suppose. I did add two bottles of pectin to the mix.
  16. He does have some strange ideas. Going back to mid-September for his worst.
  17. I think it's a great as a canopy, obviously not what you'd want for day long, never out the seat shifts on a Scottish hillside but for on off on off one man band work in Hertfordshire it's ideal 👍
  18. Morning all, Friday off as usual here. Day with She Who Must Be Obeyed, AKA Shwhombo.

  22. Hi all. I could really use some second (and third, and fourth!) opinions on this situation. I bought a century home in southeast Michigan earlier this year, and the property has many large and tall trees. One of them seems particularly concerning—it’s a double-stem white cedar growing literally within a foot of the foundation: https://imgur.com/aT8vILf During the contingency phase, the previous owner mentioned that an arborist had looked at it in the past and said it wasn’t an issue -- not sure how much I trust this, but it really doesn't matter to me at this point. I had an ISA-certified arborist come by today, and he recommended removing it. Here’s what he said: He believes the tree was intentionally planted around the time the house was built (so roughly 100 years ago). He also said that the tree isn't native to the area and is from Northern Michigan, and that it's a very slow growing tree. He recommends removal because it could eventually affect the foundation, and the branches pose risks to the siding and shingles. They also make it easier for rodents to access the roof -- rodents are gonna get up regardless if that tree exists or not so... His company would remove it by cutting it down in sections from top to bottom, leaving the stump in place. He said that once cut to the stump, a tree like this won’t regrow. I asked about potential foundation issues after removal—since I’ve read that removing trees can sometimes cause soil voids or settling. He explained that once the tree is cut, the remaining stump and roots will simply decay over 10–20 years, and there’s no need to remove them. He said this is standard practice and shouldn’t cause any voids or damage. Can anyone help fact-check his comments, especially the part about soil stability and stump decay, and supposedly no impact on the foundation? One thing that I don't understand is if this tree's can damage the foundation, and if it's really been around for 100 years, it seems like there's a chance my foundation could already be damaged and I just haven't noticed it yet? I’ve also gathered several quotes for the removal, ranging from about $1,000 to $3,000—a pretty wide range. All companies say they’re insured and licensed. Normally, I’d be cautious about going with the lowest bidder for home projects, but I’m wondering if that concern applies here. If they’re insured and properly licensed, is there any real downside to choosing the lowest quote?

  24. I assumed they were Lichens, but only because they didn't look like fungi or moss. They were all on a granite bridge on the edge of Dartmoor. Very damp environment. Dunno about your builders foam. Probably fungi, it should be fairly obvious if it was actually foam.

    Beer prices?

Didn't like Javid, ruined The Kirk by taking its business away (we got about), Christmas in The Kirk most years, summers we went to The Mall, gave MacMillans a miss mostly.. but yes, from about age 16 to mid 20s. Not sure we got the 10p pints that year though, though they ring a bell (might be that I did get them and just cannot remember)
  26. To be good, you can't just have good. You also have to have an absence of bad. So my rabbi says anyway.
  27. As others have said: sounds like a flywheel key. Could also try a different spark plug and make sure the coil-flywheel air gap is correct. If that fails, try another coil. I had a Jon 2165 which backfired occasionally and a coil swap fixed that. But hope you got it sorted long ago...!
