Talking to two different local plant dealers of decent size, that's where the equipments going, there paying stupid money for it as well... Near on the same price new as after 3 years hire... That's according to dealers, when I sold one of my hitachis the track bed and hydraulics were fkd, dealer still offered 10k for a 4k houred machine, plated 2007. Takeuchi tb 108, brought from a dealer for 5k ex speedy hire, ten years use, hours unknown sold for 6.5k . To be honest the used market is nuts because of exterior factors... People are paying stupid money for used machines. But that's where alot of machines are going.... Not africa and the middle East now.

Established Magnolia tree - can it be saved?
sadmagnolia posted a question in Homeowners Tree Advice Forum
We were lucky enough to move into a house with a lovely established magnolia in the front garden. It flowered and held it's leaves well last year but this year it's struggling. About 1/4 to 1/3 of the branches have not grown leaves after winter (the others flowered) and are smaller branches are dry and crumbly to touch. Some have side branches with leaves and others without. I haven't spotted any particular pattern to it. We did some work in a flower bed nearby this spring and spread soil enricher from an Anaerobic Digestor around but otherwise have not gone near it. I am worried the tree is dying. What might be going on here, is there anything I can do to save it? It's such a lovely tree we would hate to lose it. Any help would be gratefully appreciated -
Your groundy is making a really annoying background noise🤔

Taught to do the same? Still do it now out of habit. Anything to give a longer lasting “edge”? And it doesn’t take long.

Off to South Devon to see the old folk tomorrow, Mum has dementia and lost the ability to be creative in the kitchen and gets upset if Dad starts.... Vat of Rogan Josh with local rules applied to be potted up for their freezer! Dad has a 'procedure' next week and cannot eat spicy or fatty foods so a chicken/leek/mushroom thing in a Mediterranean tomato sauce on pasta to do when I get there!

Scum bags. Tbh I don't know how they are withdrawing their savings as it's bleeding difficult to withdraw more than a couple of grand from a branch these days without a letter from God. I've seen a few vids on SM were the good guys have hacked into the scammers computers, how genuine they are I don't know but I hope it's true. 😄

Thanks for the correction Mick. It does look good with the roof and windows,

NICE! welcome to the club. They are leagues ahead of a sany particularly when it comes to large lumps and hillsides. I’ve watched a hired sany struggling on the same hillside that the e27 romped up.

Thanks everyone. I started by taking the rope off. I ordered a soil test kit. I will share the results. As for drought conditions, I am not sure. We get rain often but not sure how much is needed for this tree. Can I over water?

The chain speed on grapple is below 25m per sec, so chainshot isn't an issue.

The big debate for me is flail versus rotary action. Rotary seems to need less HP for a given width and the quality of cut is probably better if it mulches well, but its far more susceptible to damage when you hit things. I have an old Bolens rotary mulching ride on mower that is great for orchards and rough lawns. It is almost falling to bits, but easy to maintain. I wouldn't dream of taking it round a field or bumpy ground. That's flail territory. The zero turn mowers are a bit better for getting near edges and round trees, but there is not much in it compared to a hydrostatic gears.

Thank you for that. By all means keep me posted of the winter thinning, but it is only going to work if a lorry load can be made up, and even then I would have to see pictures to assess the quality.

Nice. They're noisy little buggers. We've got a nest box and the currently resident Blue Tit chicks are making a right old racket. That was yesterday anyway; no sight or sound of them today though so they must have fledged early this morning. Leaving home in the bird world is certainly abrupt. Not like humans, where the babies hang around until they're in their 30's now. And even after that keep coming back for food and clean washing!
