  2. Hi everyone, I recently planted this Japanese Maple Acer Redpointe around 8 months ago. I estimate the tree to be around 5 years old. Anyhow the roots coming off the root flare have sharp right angle turns and reddit has pointed out in the future these will girdle the stem and kill the tree. They have advised me to discard this tree and put a new one in its place. Is there anything I can do to resolve this? Could I cut the two lateral roots that are going at right angles and will the tree be okay? Will they actually cause issues down the line? Thanks
  3. I mean fair play to you for trying to give it another chance, I'm 100% in favour of keeping trees alive if at all possible, so fingers crossed. Was the cost of moving it less than a fairly established tree bought new? Best thing you can now do is to sheet mulch it, in this order, with a big pile of high-tide-line rotting seaweed, then a decent handful of chicken pellets or half a bag of manure, then 3 layers of brown cardboard, and bark or woodchip. Fingers crossed it'll bounce back, and hopefully some of those pruning wounds will develop into nice rot pockets for creepy crawlies to live in and Robins to nest in. Keep it watered, and keep us updated 👍
  4. A few months ago I moved two ornamental maples. They are about 20 years old and about 1 foot in diameter. We used a 16 tonne digger to dig out each root ball and hoisting them up with chains and straps and into a logic quad trailer. I pulled them off the quad with a tractor. The trailer nearly collapsed and one of the tyres burst. What a pallava, I can't conceive of how anyone would attempt such a thing for a tree that must be 10/20 times heavier?
  5. Sorry I don’t think I have a picture of the root ball but it was approximately 2.5m diameter. I think what helped it a lot was that it was cut back hard in September about 8 months before the move. There was very little leaf on it when we moved it. Also it has been raining steadily here since the move. However there was a delay of about 6 weeks between digging it out and replanting it, so peds could still be correct!

  7. Here is the rubb. He dosn't feel that you are doing an acceptable job and you dont have the details to prove otherwise. As written you have not finnished the job,he is under no obligation to pay you. How much are you standing to loose and how much more work do you have on the books? For what its worth,on jobs with multiple phases I stipulate progress payments, the next phase is not started untill the last phase is paid for. This is for jobs in the tens of thousands of pounds though, they are not every day fare for me.

  18. Why would that take so long? Getting records from the phone companies?
  19. Morning Foggy and a day off, finally. Have a good one.
  20. 'Site Clearance' comes under CDM Regs. and hence "if" it is consider the tree felling is part of site clearance, distinctly, as opposed to 'good arboricultural management', i.e. removal of diseased / dying / unsafe trees, then technically development has commenced - in practice it may not be so clear cut (pardon the pun.)
  21. Morning all . Bright and clear so far 10c but rain forecast for mid afternoon .
