Hedge laying cost per metre (South Of England style)
Peewit replied to spandit's topic in Hedgelaying
That's about £22/metre. It's may or may not be cheap depending on the cost of stakes and binders, but it's not a micky take either. What you could do is go on the UK coppice products website below and see what the going rate is for stakes and binders in you area. You need 180 of each. I haven't bought any down south for four years since moving north but I imagine the days of a £1 a stick down there are long gone. Very pleased with how Sailor’s come on as a guard. Pictured here watching over me while I cut some stakes. Pays attention to people walking by but no longer runs and barks at every one. IMG_6404.mov He however did run at and bark at Rich Rule’s South London mandem who delivered something in his DPD van earlier. Black kid. Came in the gate to knock on a door. I walked out of the garage to wang the ball for Sailor and we all spotted each other at the same time. Sheer terror on the kid’s face as Sailor’s look went from surprise to business. I shouted loudly, which made the kid try to climb a rosemary bush. Bosh. Dog straight back. Clicked my fingers and he laid down. Immaculate. No one need die today. Went and shook the kid’s hand (could feel his pulse through his palm) and called Sailor over. “Sick control, bruv!” High praise, coming from no doubt an experienced dog victim. Made my day.

Hedge laying cost per metre (South Of England style)
spandit replied to spandit's topic in Hedgelaying
Sounds like the quote I've had is reasonable (just under £2,000) but I'd like to see if can get a grant to help with the cost. I'm happy to pay a proportion of it -

Hi Winky, I have a Tree Survey and TCP plan that were submitted for planning and the planners have highlighted that there are some discrepancies with the colours used on the plans being non compliant with BS.5837 Are you familiar with these British Standard colour requirements and could you simply change the colours for me on the plans? thanks KR Ray

Think you'll just find valleco just buy them from vallorbe, there are very few file making firms with Vallorbe Switzerland being one of the largest. Think last ones I bought were Husqvarna and a branded box full of Vallorbe turned up. Not sure about Stihl, but when you buy a artic trailers worth they'll change the branding or just put them in a Stihl box as I'm sure I've seen that.

Anyone worked out the difference yet? I just got a couple from MSC that were Vallorbe when I looked at them, Valleco when I paid for them and Vallorbe when they arrived. I have a horrible feeling that when whatever warehousing gremlin works itself out, we're going to be left with less good files that we had before. Way of the world. https://www.mscdirect.co.uk/valleco-8in-smooth-cut-flat-engineers-file-val-22008h?queryID=1a31f9205d33a7fa9c2fa9783e2cfbc5&objectID=329035&indexName=LIVE_default_products That's what I bought btw. Mustard on rakers. Way better than single cuts. Treat yourself.

I've never really learned how to tune a saw or hedgecutter that has a rev limiting coil, it's generally not been a problem as I tend to blip the throttle on the power stroke with the hedge cutter. I used to have a lot of problems with the Stih BT 45 power drills at work, they invariably came back with the exhaust caked in tarry oil where unburnt fuel had passed through when they were constantly held on the limiter.

Thanks very much for the info, no wonder it is 4 stroking at what I thought is a very low rpm, but if 4700 is the max rpm then that makes sense. I'll get it to do some work tomorrow as I have some paving slabs that want cutting up, I'll tach it up and see what it's doing. It's amazing what grief these concrete saws go through, but different abuse than saws generally. Filters never changed or cleaned seems to be the norm. This one had concrete dust above the piston in the cylinder, but surprisingly bore was not to worn and cleaned up ok, bottom end seems not to have suffered any ill effects and remarkably clean!

Had this one to get down the other week. Handily sheds built underneath it and the only way out was to rig everything down into the neighbours. Dry first day wet for the remaining two. Steep down some steps and steep down to the chipper.

Hi, I'm similar although I've probably no more than 15 old saws, thank feck😁 But I do have 2 K650's and 2 Stihl TS410's so if it's any help but I'd say they're designed not to rev out like a saw but just to reach a certain rev limit and then 4 stroke, probably to protect them from thick guy's on a building site. You said it yourself, put it through some stone, concrete or whatever and listen to the tone of the 4 stroking, you'll have heard it a thousand times ringing out from builders working near you and probably never thought about it... hedge trimmers are similar. To me the most important thing about them is that they start reliably with a couple of pulls hot or cold and tick over without stalling, I do quite a lot of stonework and it's very wearing on the wrist if this is not the case. Found this , so 4700 rpm.... Cheers.
