  1. i think its trying to decide how much i believe the claims of being sick im looking for a third, it will make a difference and from 3 down to 2 for a day is a lot better than just on my own. its the usual story, when do you start getting fed up of the sick days and excuses. dont wanna knock someone with genuine health problems but i need reliability.
  2. so how far do you let it go when a casual labourer keeps calling in sick and letting you down for jobs? major pain in the arse cos theres only me and him. hes a likeable enough lad but this is getting too many times now. usually says hes been throwing up. this time its feeling dizzy which im suspecting is a result of the pub yesterday and just didnt want to work today but where do you find the replacement if you kick him up the road?
  3. meant budget to determine how many to buy are we talking just 2 saws or lets get a whole bunch 550 and 576 both a good call and decent saws that tackle a lot used the 201 less so im not as familiar as with the 540 i havent found much my 576 wont take on with a good bar and chain
  4. think priority 1 is budget then what dealer you have locally for repair what size stuff are you gonna tackle 540 and 201 pretty much the same the little echo isnt bad for the size of it
  5. know what? hes got a beard. says it all.

i was more like suggesting just get a couple of bits of velcro yourself for like a quid from a craft shop?

shhh, am i the only one thinking how pointless this thing is? twenty something quid for basically a couple of bits of velcro strapping? zubat even has loops for straps to go through. yes its a pain in the arse when my zubat dangles away from me clipped to the harness but ill get over it.
  8. Lisa Jenkins in 3rd year. or have i misunderstood the title? haha
  9. id say theres nothing wrong with taking the time to chip away slowly and carefully at it. but how big are we talking? my favoured plan would be a top rope over a good fork in the ash and tip tie the pine. base cut the pine and keep it upright just knocking a bit off the bottom then lower it down and knock off another lump. but then that hinges on having a good rope and friction device, and getting a top rope in.
  10. sounds to me like a brilliant idea. less logs to shift off site, plus probably a bit on top of the job for building the fence. have to assume there is a good depth to it. and a decent base prepared. very insect friendly too.
  11. yes. enough said.
  12. they were supposed to be a new lighter weight boot for climbing, supposed to be hitting shelves early 2019 i think. then got delayed because of some production problem. not heard anything since. wondered if anyone else had. seems theres a lot of 2.0 boots hitting shelves since then.

i think im gonna get the 661. the attraction of the 881 was just it being the biggest, but looks like it would feel oversized and id never use it. anything big enough to want the size of the 881 is gonna be so big i dont wanna know anyway. thanks for the photo Rough Hewn, very useful to see all 3 together
  14. i went from protector pro (multiple pairs over about 10 years) to pfanner zermatt. i noticed a difference in ankle height, prefer the height of protector pro. but the zermatt were comfy straight out of the box, no wearing in like the protector pro. i have ripped one of the size lacing hooks off already though, about 6 months in. now considering haix protector forest boots. incidentally does anyone know anything about the magic new boot haix were showing at the APF a few years back that never arrived?

so, how much bigger is it than a 661? and how much more powerful? is it worth it? i dont do a lot of big trees, i was looking at a 661, made easier when the 880 was discontinued. now it bites a bit to buy the second biggest saw. i like the idea that it will just eat anything i point it at, but i remember the 880 i used in my early days. feels too big in my memory.
  16. how about Anakin? thats a funky name.
  17. to be fair its not always homeowners who make the bad call. i know of a hedge where the local authority tree officer was overruled by appeal and hedge owner was required to cut a chunk out of a hedge that a neighbour said was too high. so now the hedge runs along the garden at about 20 foot, drops to 12 foot for a section in the middle, then back up to 20. totally ruined the hedge just cos of once nutjob neighbour.
  18. looks to me like our exit from the eu has caused a failure in the roots of this tree and to protect all the other trees we need to all stop buying white bread and go vegan. but i could be wrong.

    Jokes???

used to work in a bar, and genuinely there was a scot, an irish, and an english turned up at the same time and i just looked and them all and said " is this some kinda joke?"
  20. arbortec breatheflex pro legacy, anyone? any comments? any good? load of junk? or what? anyone seen a pair or been wearing them?
  21. update, she is now posting openly on facebook calling me arrogant, a gobshite and a cowboy, saying I "decimated" her mailbox. currently in the middle of an email to the arb association for their input. potentially now will be seeking legal action.
  22. am I right in thinking the substantial log we left behind is legally the property of the householder? and that if he chooses to roll it into the middle of the road from where I left it against his front fence that its not my responsibility? any opinions or comments regarding any other brash or debris left behind from work carried out on the job?
  23. ah genius. worth a try.
  24. update to the situation. the damage mailbox now valued at £12 by the husband, (just as abusive and aggressive as the wife) ive now seen the video footage of us 'causing' the damage. as predicted, its from a cctv camera on the front of the house, so maybe 40 feet away, as predicted only showing a tree falling left to right, and almost entirely obscured by the privet hedge and gatepost. I pointed out the felling direction from the gob and back cut on the stump, pointed out the tree we used as a redirect for the rope, pointed out the corrosion, and the lack of damage to the top of the mailbox, and my 23 years experience felling trees. still the same aggression that we clearly caused the damage because "look you can see the bush move".
