  1. I wouldn't suggest using a top handle saw at all. Sorry but you don't understand enough about using a saw to consider it. It's good you're thinking about the logistics of dealing with the arisings but there will be a lot more stuff than you imagine. More important to think about actually taking the top off a tree that size. Are they leaning or weighted favourably, branches not intertwined, what cut will you use. There's a lot to go wrong with it and that's before you add a novice on a ladder. What exactly was the work you had quoted? Be interested to see pics.
  2. Another close contender for my favourite tree is The Capon Tree, an Oak around a thousand years old. I've a long family history in the Scottish Borders (from a Reiver family) and it pleases me to see this tree and think my ancestors were likely familiar with it. Capon Tree, Jedburgh | Ancient Tree Forum WWW.ANCIENTTREEFORUM.ORG.UK The Capon Tree, a hollow English oak (Quercus robur), is one of the...
  3. Like the vids on your YouTube channel AJ, you have a new subscriber.
  4. I'd say I have a few favourite trees but to pick one, the all time favourite, it's a Copper Beech in the neighbours garden that I see every day and have known as long as I can remember. First tree I remember climbing as a child, first tree I could identify, had a swing hung from it, gang hut under it, picnics and even romance, it's had a lot of impact on my life. And now I do trees for a living, the times I've climbed it to do work have been particularly rewarding.

  6. Readers grease nipples, or Best back end oil?
  7. So does this mean it's no longer considered unparliamentary behaviour to call him a total wanker in the chamber?
  8. If you don't intend keeping your lunch in it just wipe it out with a clean rag, bit of oil won't harm tools. Hot soapy water might do a better job of cleaning.
  9. This topic has become a lot more thought provoking recently, interesting opinions.
  10. You can cut the side off and use them for storage. Lying flat, with the handle pointing out they make decent big drawers to put on shelves. Aspen containers for little drawers.
  11. Give Steve Bullman the credit! God works in mysterious ways
  12. Seems like I'm hijacking this thread a bit but I saw an unusual garden ornament today
  13. It got well and truly under his skin though, I get the feeling he'll still be reading this, in a non-member/unable to comment kind of fashion. Hello Cambridge, hope you've relaxed a bit "buddy" 👍
  14. I'm not an expert on heave but I really don't think it's an issue with that tree. There's no best time of year to remove it, just whenever is convenient for you.
  15. Like the idea but I imagine you'd need to add a binding agent of some type to hold it together. We'll see when you open it up.
  16. I thought that too, good to see respect shown rather than all the posturing. Think it was all genuine as they have trained together and sparred in the past.
  17. John said he has an echo pole saw, echo CS-352-ES with a 14" bar and echo 2511TES top handle.
  18. Despite the cool wind it was a beautiful day here. Went for a walk at a secluded reservoir, love this countryside.
  19. Treevolution are good, Chris that runs it certainly knows his stuff but I've not heard much about H&W. At least you've got a date for it, hope you enjoy it.
  20. Treevolution at Broxburn have places available on 1st August if not too far to travel. And it is (a bit) less than 4 months! CHAINSAW TRAINING COURSES CS30 CS31 NPTC 201 202 203. 21. He's doing well thanks Gary. Deaf as a time served tree surgeon and prefers a lift in/out the truck, but he's happy and when he smells a hare or deer he'll be off running for ages. Can't ask for more than that.
  22. 15 today. The sun is shining, crows to chase and there'll be hares to rampoozle after on the Moor tonight, happy days.
  23. Thanks Jim.
  24. Just trying to get a better idea of who you are really, I'm reading a lot of your opinions lately. What did you do as a Bioscientist? I don't know what that is I'm afraid.
  25. Welcome back! As you're here, interested to find out what science you do, or have done?
