We had a poorly fox on the estate, we asked a local group who take care of foxes if they would help. They came and took her away, she came back a few weeks ago and looked much better. The same charity do work to help about 1000 orphaned fox cubs a year and they are always looking for places to let them out in the summer time. Looks like foxes need help at the minute. I see one or two in our woods very occasionally.

Carried on with milling oak today. Using the 881 and 42” bar and chain. Nice bit of timber.

I've probably got 30 or so, maybe more hanging up. Trouble is many different saws and different chains needed for those. Plus milling chains. And also it seems a good thing to get different chains and try them out and see which is best for what job. imho. I quite like a number of the different oregon chains for one saw, have recently bought some Archer full skip chains to try them out and some times one needs a good stihl milling chain or a lo pro milling chain to get the job done. Sorting them one day wouldn't be a bad idea, but then you have to keep them sorted. so I find it easier to just hang them up and find the one you need when you need it. Although in most cases I just buy a new chain when I feel the need. 👍

Must have hit something hard on the wee Lumag chipper. One of the blades cracked. Was a bugger to get the fifth bolt out. Lots of heat, Impact Wrench and one of those turbo sockets got it out at last. Put a new set of blades on. Looking pretty peachy now. Runs a goodun.

So a bit like a zero turn mower on steroids by the sounds of it with the Kubota. Sounds lovely to drive. I could do with both the Kubota and the Alpine. Only got the old MF 135 on the site at the moment. One day we will get the budget. 👍 although I have been looking at the McCormick as an option. My local tractor dealer used to be big on Massey and then moved over to McCormick. They look like good machines.

Lovely big tree. Not looking happy on the bole. I had a large lime come over in the last storm. Was hollow at the base where the kretz was. Totally hollow, but no sign of it being hollow from outside before it fell. Rest of the tree from about 5' up was totally sound wood and solid. Picus and Resi Drill might be an idea to see how far the decay has progressed. Seems a shame with such a big walnut. But with that much Kretz at the base I would be quite concerned. That's my laymen's opinion on the matter. 👍

Yes a few white stags in our woods. They are very skittish though them Fallow deer so haven't been successful getting a photo yet. 👍

Have you tried using a hot pressure washer? Have you tried a product like algo clear that will kill the spores/mould to stop it coming back so quickly. Otherwise I think you can pick up sealer from B&Q and any other hardware type store. But you will want to have any living organisms dead first before you seal the concrete I would say. I use a product called block blitz which you dilute with water, it keeps stuff clean and kills moss and mould really quickly and keeps the material looking cleaner longer. 👍

What are you using to clean your patio and what material is it? Pressure washing with cold water will in some instances cause the stone/paving to green up quicker as the spores of the algae get pushed into the material. Hot washing kills more of the spores and keeps the patio cleaner longer. Sealing can be good depending on what material one is trying to seal. Otherwise I have used about 10 different products over the years for algae/moss/grime removal. Algo Clear is pretty good you leave it on and it gets rid of the moss/algae and keeps it cleaner longer. Block blitz works well and is easy to apply. There are quite a few moss/algae removers on the market. They take longer but keep the patio cleaner longer then pressure washing. Sealers work on concrete and other things. Natural stone sealers seem to be harder to get hold of. I don't know how long your patio would remain clean once sealed. 👍

Interesting. Just found this description online. Fern-leaved Beech Fagus sylvatica 'Asplenifolia' Origin: this is a frequently-planted tree in parks and gardens. Where branches are cut or damaged, the replacement leaves will be those of the Common Beech because the plant is a "chimaera". Consider a graft between the top of one tree and the base or rootstock of another. Occasionally a bud arising from the union point grows into a mixture of the two plants with the core of one plant being wrapped in a "skin" of the other. This skin being only a cell thick. In the Fern-leaved Beech we have core of Common Beech wrapped in a "skin" of the cut-leaved form. This chimaera is usually stable but, when branches are damaged, the new growth may revert to that of the core type. Hence we get leaves of the Common Beech form occurring amongst the Fern-leaved type.

Don't think so. the Beech bit of the name doesn't really have anything to do with our native beech trees. The Nothofagus tree is from the other side of the world . 👍
