  1. Cheers mate. Always good to get knowledge from the more experienced. Appreciated 👍
  2. Had a fairly large pine come down in the recent stormy weather. Gonna mill it up. Do you think it is worth milling the usual 10' lengths by 55-60mm boards? I might keep some for making larger pieces for 2x4's Any thoughts? Obviously it is down to preference and use, just wondering what others might have done with pine on the milling front.
  3. I've had trouble with the on/off on our husky top handle battery. Albeit a slightly older model. I think it happens when the saw gets too wet and something short circuits. If the saw is still under warranty then potentially the dealer can replace the part for free. If not then you can buy a control unit online and change it yourself. Its very simple to change and cheaper to buy the parts online. That is my experience anyway.
  4. I bought the 7hp Cobra Chipper earlier this year. It will chip up to 120mm, it takes its time pulling that size through. But I was chipping piles of big laurel stems up this summer, along with a lot of other brash piles no problem at all. The only thing it stumbled on was dry holly, but that was mostly due to the amount of dry leaves on the stems clogging the chute. I think you will find that the wee chippers are as efficient as they say they are generally. I was very surprised that the 7hp machine could manage to chip stuff easily under 120mm and lots of it. In fact they seem to do better with bigger wood than conifer brash. But they will do that too. I have just bought a Lumag 15hp 150mm chipper am yet to use it, but I can certainly say these chippers are surprisingly good for the money. I posted a short video on here earlier this year chipping up some bigger stuff.
  5. Who knows. I think mink have been here in numbers for many decades. I once asked someone on a big estate nr us what he did about pest control, he said they dealt with the squirrels and the deer, but had given up on mink as they are travelers and go from site to site. Have seen a few this year. They seem to like getting rid of the American cray fish out of the pond, which is fine by me.
  6. Pyrus Calleryana 'Chanticleer' has the upright habit and the bark does look quite similar as @Stere suggested.
  7. On another note. Would you use full skip ripping chain on a 41" bar? or just go with full comp? for that length .404 on the 881. Anyone welcome to pitch in with constructive answers. 👍
  8. Seen normal beech with more ribbed bark next to smooth barked. Not sure what the difference is.
  9. Nice work if you can get it 👍
  10. Gorgeous sunny autumn day. Not too hot and bright!
  11. I've only just started it with the new chipper, prior to that I just put down the chip on paths around the estate. But I would imagine leaving it and turning it over some time will give you something fairly good as mulch or compost. 👍
