  1. Could be wrong, but isn’t it the start of ganoderma brackets early stage of the fungus. I’ve got similar on an old beech, it’s like it’s oozing out of the tree like expanding foam. Then turns into brackets.
  2. Not sure on this one. Is it Postia species There seem to be a few brackets on the decaying heartwood on beech.
  3. There you go! I’m no professional, but happy to help where I can. Probably easiest if you pm me with any questions. Happy to see if I can help.
  4. Yes currently using the Olympus micro 4/3 system. Got the OMD5 mark ii, recently got the new Olympus 100-400mm lens. Ideally I would also add the 1.4x teleconverter and upgrade to the mk iii Olympus OMD5. I prefer the smaller system to go out and about with. 👍
  5. Looks like lichen to me, if so that is generally a good sign on the fruit tree. Looks like your lawn goes right up to the roots of the tree. I Would cut out a mulch circle to the dripline of the tree, give the tree some feed and mulch and water it well. Avoid cutting the roots when you remove the turf. Otherwise it looks like its been pruned like a lollypop and there could well be canker and dead branches that need cutting out. You need to open the centre of the crown up and let air and light in to the tree if you want it to do well as a fruit tree. Fruit trees need regular correct pruning to keep them giving you new and healthy wood. Might be worth getting someone in that knows how to prune fruit trees.
  6. I’ve mostly done video clips this summer but in keeping with the on going theme here’s a few shots too.
  7. R A I N first since April. come on rain!!!!!!!!!!
  8. I've been using one of the new Cobra chippers for a couple of weeks. Am impressed with its performance on 3" or so sweet chestnut and hazel chipping. its not a 6" commercial chipper, but it pulls stuff through fast and chews it all up pretty good and for just under 1k its not bad at all. With the Loncin engine. I would like to compare the 15hp to this machine to see the difference, so far I have had no trouble with it doing fairly big stuff. I suppose being that these machines are so cheap, maybe the thing to do is have a small collection of them and get used to which one is better for what. I had been eyeing up the Crytec 15hp machine but my local dealer did a deal on the cobra so I went with that for now.

  10. I see 👍okay well I guess poplar will be pretty similar then. I’ve not done poplar yet but have a big black hybrid to mill up. So thought I would check.
  11. Ho do you keep the boards from cupping? Just keep it well weighted or do you strap your slabs of poplar?
  12. Seems to be Chicken season. Top one on an old oak tree and bottom one is in a flowering cherry.
  13. Looks to me like a photinia bush and something more vigorous growing behind it. Things grow with sunlight, so depending on the direction of the sun, depends where you will get more growth on your bush. If your smaller bush is being shaded out by the bigger bush then there will always be a struggle for the light. Looks like griselinia to the left and cherry laurel or rhodo (but more likely cherry laurel) to the right, behind. Both of the structural shrubs/bushes at the back are more dense and faster growing than photinia, that is not to say it won't grow, but the smaller shrub will need more feeding and more attention than the bigger bushes.
  14. I think it’s a gatekeeper rather than meadow brown. Almost identical but it has the thicker border. 👍
  15. Fair point @Squaredy, the logs have been down about 4 or 5 years in the wood with no bark on. Looked like oak to me and the grain seemed more like oak than chestnut, but you may well be right mate. 👍
  16. Don’t often see Bullfinch but this one happened to be nearby.
  17. Nice boards! I've wondered for a while, is it chalk or crayons people are using to mark up the dimensions on their boards?
