  1. Phils got his updated to hgv, I think it would nearly be over weight if not
  2. Just for the firms in my area still charging the same rate bottom end rates. We go out for roughly £300 per man per day and £150 for the chipper. £150 for additional vehicular and £400 for a digger given the right situation. These prices will have vat added on top. We win 90% of our work. No matter how low your overheads are going out 550 a day for 2 blokes is backwards. Owner operators never realise that they must also take a pay as well as the business. There would be very little room for sustainable profit if you were not onsite and employing two others…
  3. I don’t think I’d ever go back to manual in a truck or big vehicle, far too much work. Your trailer brakes should be doing most of the work anyway for the added load. The auto engine brake themselves, I wouldn’t have it any other way
  4. Why would you sell by weight? Surely the wetter the wood the heavier it would be?? What’s ever been wrong with cubic volume?
  5. This does annoy me greatly. What also annoys me greatly and I would live some one to clear this up as it’s the same topic of TO’s bending rules. For a few district councils when I place my notice of intent on the planning portal, about 2-3 weeks after that date I get an email from the LA saying they have received the app and I have 6 weeks from starting from the date on the email?? Surely not??
  6. Just get a new shape Navarra and be done with it Roy. I’ve driven both extensively, Nissan takes it for me. Far more reliable mind you, heard plenty of horror story’s about the ranger
  7. Thanks mate, always the source of all knowledge [emoji108]
  8. Many thanks to all for that [emoji108] I guess with the smart winch one would have to keep a big stein block for chogging the stem down
  9. Yea that’s the only thing that I want to check before I move forward, I wish suppliers were more detailed online!
  10. Many thanks, it’s the rating of the bollards I’m after, I can’t seem to find them anywhere
  11. i'm on the same set up but with the older shape but i use a notch quickie to attached the tether to the zigzag. put the pin through both the zigzag and tether. no sit back for me
  12. i used to think that, but i find it significantly easier doing reductions on srt. one can rub against and redirect of as many branches as possible and still have a frictionless system. also the ability to drop down and work the crown from the outside
  13. i use the metal husky mesh one with the bronze tinge. helps block the sun. i find the black plastic ones make me blind against direct sunlight
  14. Hi all i'm hoping someone can be of help. I'm weighing up which device we want, grcs or smart winch. I was wondering if anyone had any opinions? Also i have been trawling the internet looking for the swl of both devices, on the winch and more importantly on the bollard. it's a lot of money and i'm wanting to get the right device. TIA
  15. Had a “local tree warden” ask me to “reduce” her 12 Lombardy poplars from 80ft to 20ft. She said she didn’t need permission even though it was a conservation area because they were polars ahaha. Safe to say I didn’t do it
  16. I used a isc rope grab for years, on art positioner now (way better). I use a thick steel core flip line (I used to have a honey Bros one, can’t remember what I have now) you do get thinner ones which are more rope like (one of my lads has got one, black and yellow, it’s shit). Make sure you lean into the tree when you flick it up, make sure you have your hands each side on the line not hugging the tree. Trust your kit, I’ve gaffed out loads of times, never go far. If you get shaky at the top on a narrow stem put a carabiner over both sides to choke it. With the struggling to get it around the tree you can flick it around with a heavy snap hook quite easily but tbf I get a groundie to pass it to me. With the leaning stems it just comes with time they are awkward. All takes time, and it’ll feel second nature before you know it.
  17. You can reduce maiden ones or well managed ones. But as mark said that’s been butchered. Loads of leggy uprights, won’t be an easy climb at all. In fact that looks horrible. You won’t gain much by reducing what’s left in my opinion. The frame works been buggered. And yes I hate to say it but I’d fell it and replace with another eucy (I love them) and manage appropriately. Just my two pence. It can of course still be reduced but from my experience that won’t be an easy afternoon
  18. worse when you're out on the piss on a saturday night circa 7pm. 'yea no worries i'll see you at 9am'.
  19. Shouldn’t really tow anything above 60 though? I don’t know, 4x4 is great but if I didn’t have my 4x4 and tipper trailer I would still stick with the 3.5t van any day with capacity
  20. ffs peopleare are only trying to to give you a bit of motivation, give you a leg up. i always ask are you winning? it means literally are you winning? how you getting on. if they say no they'll say why and we'll sort something out. go on about being patronising when some one says good job? maybe they are actually appreciating your job... take it with a bit of gratitude. You'd last 2mins on our sites with how we talk to each other, makes the day go well, i effing wish someone said good job to me ahah
  21. Yes 100%, Helen from the HR dept wrote mine up. Not expensive and cover your arse. Give her a call +44 7443 672963
  22. I’m sorry but it’s a load of crap pushed by one fo the biggest importers and one the biggest exporters of firewood from one of the largest areas of deforestation, selling a load of firewood which has mould on it at 18% moisture. Ours is 15% out the gate. Dried in a barn.
