  13. Morning All, i am a small, one man band with no direct employees, but a list of independent subbies that I regularly use. They are covered under my employee insurance Yadar yadar yadar...... when filling out forms for work, and they ask for the amount of employees that I have, should I list 0, or can I list the number of regular subbies? As far as the work goes, we regularly go out as a 2 or 3 man team so seems silly (in my head) to potentially under sell and limit myself if I have to say it is just little old me on my own. thanks
  14. Good morning, I have some bone questions to ask about sole-tradering, the HRMC website seems to just focus on building trade sole traders in the subcontracting context. - If the tree work is nothing to do with a building development etc then I do not have to be part of the CIS scheme? - As a non-VAT registered contractor I don't include VAT anywhere on my invoices? - I invoice the company I'm working for the full amount of my labour, and receive the full amount (it's up to me to sort out my tax)? - How much % of the year can I work for the same company without losing "self-employed" status (included in this is, if some of work during the year is PAYE to a seperate company is that included as "working for someone else" even though it's not a sub-contracting context? Thanks in advance.
  15. I got my CS30/31 in November 2016 and have been working as a groundie since. I started on the railway but I'm waiting for a PTS course which was meant to be in early January, however the company aren't very forthcoming with the dates of my course and with moving house in February I can't solely rely on them. I've been working with a local arborist on domestic jobs but he can't provide a lot of work. I'm prepared to travel within 50 miles of Sheffield for days, nights & weekends. Temp work is ideal as I do intend to go back on the railway as soon as someone sorts my PTS out but I will stay for as long as someone needs me. I don't mind the odd day or night either if it's all you can offer. I'm currently self employed and have been for years so I'd prefer not to be employed. I don't have a saw but I do have access to a 261 or 440. I had intended to be back on the railway already and with my own saws but the year isn't going my way yet.
  16. Hi Folks, I am in need of some "contract skill" from time to time on the usual rates within the industry, we'll negotiate. Could you please get in touch if you are a climber who can genuinely take on any task. We are an Arb Approved contractor based in Wimbledon with 5 or 6 staff. Feel free to ask me any questions. Please email me at [email protected] , I look forward to hearing from you. All the best, Tom

  19. Hi all, I'm an arb of 5 years eperience, and former regular to arbtalk.com but have been out of the game for a few years due to a shift to a different industry. I'm missing the work, and was wondering if there is any scope to get back into it part-time. A few ideas I'm toying with are: Becoming a gun for hire (although I'm a bit rusty); Getting work with an arb firm on weekends and when I can get leave from my day job; Setting up as a sole trader (Have Saws, PPE, Tickets, Climbing kit, but no van or chipper) and doing smaller domestic work, including some gardening if neccessary. Can anyone offer some advice, and whether setting up a business just to do 0-20 hours work a week is viable. Thanks in advance, Gareth
