  1. As you’ve got to get parental consent to join military if under 18 will they have to ask their parents who they can vote for. Have to be over 18 to serve on the front line? A lot of under 18s are in full time education so arnt tax payers? - that was Labours idea to artificially lower employed no’s. So they’ve got that wrong haven’t they🤔
  2. Such a pity, got all my TW spares from them, excellent service, good staff to deal with. They stopped doing TW recently so perhaps the writing was on the wall🤔. Hope the staff get snapped up by someone?
  3. Non of us know the exact details? subsidence is thought to be because of the oak tree? Who says? Just because branches overhang the boundary doesn’t mean the oak is close to the house does it. What is the distance of house from oak tree. No mention of any pro survey, no trial pits to find roots? Nothing, nada? A letter on its own is not enough to make the owner of tree remove it? It would require a full inspection, survey and report, plus owner of said tree could question quality/ standard of build of house in the first place. We don’t have enough facts and the op’s gone walkabout looking for the trees owner🤔
  4. It’s easy to let your heart rule your head over house purchases but I’m surprised you’re carrying on with the purchase to be honest? If you find the owner don’t expect any issue you have with the property to be sorted? Could take years - if ever to reach a solution and potentially £1000s in costs🤔
  5. Like most things a few phots might help? A piece 600mm diameter depending on length is going to be quite heavy. It will also deteriorate quickly so will have to be wrapped in netting wire to prevent anything dropping? Apologies for having an inquisitive mind. But repositioning decaying poplar into another tree as habitat is bordering on complete bollocks. Go and source some oak with a hollow and it’ll last for years. What’s going to use a hollow in 600mm diameter lump of wood as habitat? A black bear?
  6. Am I understanding this right or not? Your removing a hollow section of a stem from one tree and fixing it to a tree near by as habitat🤔. Why! It’s better left where it is surely? It’s perfectly formed and fixed? Just reduce the weight to make it safe and revisit in couple of years!
  7. A bump from way back 🤔. Quickest way to zero a full bore rifle is to put your rifle on a bench or mound and hold firm with some shot bags or sand bags. Take bolt out and look down the barrel and adjust rifle onto the top of a stake or picket 100 - 150 metres away. When top of stake/ picket is centre of barrel adjust scope onto same point. You’ll then be able to send down a 3 shot group at 100 mts and adjust from that. I use 3 shots not 5 to adjust to save ammo then fire a 5 round group to confirm. If the Zulu’s are coming the first stage is enough to keep their heads down😳
  8. Can’t argue against the French copper who shot the synagogue arsonist? Good on him👍
  9. If everyone who’s getting older, having aches and pains in their joints etc gave up the tools and became consultants there wouldn’t be enough consultant jobs to go around? Mind you perhaps there’d be more tree work for those who stuck it out to the bitter painful end🤔. Not everyone wants to walk around with a clipboard like Blakey from “On the Buses”, there’s me showing my age😳. Of course we do need consultants, but I can get one fairly easily if needed, try finding a decent climber or groundy that’s not already gainfully employed?
  10. I’d be more than happy with that cost and probably tell you it’s too cheap and offer more. If you still have them? Strip them down, put in a couple of boxes and give them back to him? Tell him that apparently the repair costs would be to much🤔
  11. Many years ago when I reloaded rifle bullets for stalking I used crushed walnuts in a small tumbler to clean and polish the empty cases first.
  12. I never have hired in a chipper but I think there’s a good call to open up and inspect blades when taking delivery. I can see the hire company blaming the hirer in this case? “ it was all checked before you hired it”, what does it say on the hire agreement?
  13. I’d go for the biggest every time, you’ve got the transport sorted so 500kg difference makes no difference. Get the 20.10, in 6 months you and those looking to hire in a platform will want a 23 or 30mt.

    Deposits

Electricians and plumbers are asking superstar wages so I suppose money upfront can be considered appearance money? Also Circuses want payment upfront🤔
  15. Glad the main point is cleared up? I thought OF was a further abbreviation of F OFF😳

    Deposits

Never take a deposit even if using hired platforms or cranes. One thing I did ask recently when asked to quote for a job by an existing customer who’s recently been bought out by a USA conglomerate - was - what are the payment terms now they’re owned by the Americans? Those buggers can expect you to work months before payment😳. Still a week after invoicing so that’s ok.
  17. I’m no mettalurgest but as above and something as reacted with the alloy. Yes the anodising does protect the metal underneath but I’ve got alloy crabs and rings on harnesses where the finish has worn off and have a polished finish but they’ve not broken down like the alloy in the phots. I’ve seen motorbike rims and alloy parts that have broken down when exposed to wet/ damp conditions but for years. Not months? One thing for sure I would have stopped using that harness a long time ago and sent it back to the manufacturers?
  18. Still a bit damp by the looks of it? May be best just to run over it with the mower set on high?
  19. The gob and backcut does look to be in that direction🤔
  20. I’ve got poor eye site - I thought they were flares? Pleased to hear there was an initial plan🤔
  21. Don’t really see the point of this procedure? Just creating a problem. If the trees going that direction why not just remove pergola first. Far less effort and safer?
  22. He did convert to Christianity? They gave him £25 every time he turned up for bible lessons🤔, who wouldn’t if it helped hoodwink the Immigration morons and of course the Christian’s who thought they had converted him!
  23. Agreed. However there are some pleachers of a reasonable size with some length. Cut the bigger stuff off at ground level. Lay the live pleachers and import some filling material to thicken the hedge up and fill the gaps. Then there would be new growth from the pleachers and the stumps? The best option would of been to cut the lot off at ground level, plant the gaps up with some quick, stock proof fence both sides. Keep on top of the rabbit population and come back in 10- 15 years to lay properly. The problem is high cost?
  24. Special Arborist Services or even Shit and Sawdust ltd
  25. Exactly, work is work?
