  1. What’s a red diesel bug? Not heard of this. Is it something the Russians planted as I believe a lot of red is imported from them. Or was! I’ve had problems with red glooping up the filters cos of bio diesel being added but not bugs🤔
  2. You say your not making much on the job after buying ladder and roof bars to carry it but haven’t yet seen the job🤔. Have you guessed a price or customer given you the price on the phone? If I was you I’d go and have a look at the job first, list what kit you need, purchase cost etc, before you decide a price. You don’t have to put all your cost of kit investment against the one job?Once you have the equipment your set up for other jobs.
  3. Well would you believe it🙄. Also they’re ever expanding naval boats seem to float quite well and they’re airforce are still flying in they’re fast jets with 5 years warranty?
  4. And then the whole population can have every aspect of their life’s controlled by the Saudi dictators🤔, not just most of it?
  5. Exactly my thinking (or how I thought?) been looking at the options for a while now and as you say 2nd hand are generally fetching more than new even 2 or 3 years old because they’ve a long lead up period for new and in short supply. The Sany 27 comes with 2 services ready for a grab/ rotator, up-grade another make without and add cost to base machine? And without having to switch from one to another? 5 year warranty sounds attractive except for some reason doesn’t include injectors? Hired one in a couple of weeks ago to clean out some awkward reach ditches and it performed no different to any other machine. Fitted with a Yanmar engine and I’ve never had a problem with other equipment fitted with them. What also as got me thinking is that some expensive Stihl saws I’ve got come with carbs made in china. Also take a look at your new ish? vehicles fitted with Bosch alternators? chance’s are it’s made in china? Aren’t some Bobcat’s made in France, Cats made in Eastern Europe 😳. Not many years ago no way would I buy anything made in France - the country that make cars with stupid looking funny suspension cars😂
  6. Surely if using a D4 the buckets, spare fuel etc can go in the pickup. One thing for sure as you’ve alluded to if using a 2.6/ 2.7 ton and a built to last Ifor type trailer you’ll probably be overweight with just the quick hitch?
  7. Even a half rotten cresoted pole will outlast a new freshly so called”treated” timber post in the ground?
  8. Second the recommendation for old tele/ elect poles. Don’t put cut end into ground, use the original butt where it’s been creosoted. As others have said don’t concrete as it seals in the moisture- I use scalpings tamped in 6” layers for all gate and straining posts these days. Phots are of a building at a farm park in Evesham area I visited with kids early in year. Looked quality work and built to last.
  9. I believe Herefordshire supplied a lot of the oak for Windsor Castle after the fire and looking at Soilscapes a vast majority of the soil is loam and clay or a mixture. These days of course straight grained, knot free wood is sought which is from forest and woodland stands but in the days of navy ship building the shipwrights sought out as many curved naturally bent pieces as possible for the main hull frames and stem to save the amount of hand tool work and steaming? These would of come from edge-grown or open grown trees.
  10. Apple trees will very often discard apples the tree cannot sustain. This can take place anytime after apples have set and is sometimes called the June drop but is affected by region, and weather conditions. If you have an abundant crop and don’t thin them out you could end up with small apples or worse broken/ failing branches. Remove apples that are obviously not going to develop into sound fruit - mis-shaped, damaged, insect/ grub/ bird damage, double or multiple clusters of apples should be reduced to ideally one large fruit. In the recent long unusually hot period more apples have been discarded than usual. Commercial growers will reduce the amount of pre harvest apple removal by pruning as required.
  11. Just quoted direction incase you had a go at trying it clockwise! As you know there are left and right hand threads. Your the one who couldn’t strip it down not me - crack on!
  12. The centre bolt should unscrew easy enough anti-clockwise with a socket and extended socket bar. There’s only a couple of sealed Timken type bearings so I’d just replace those. The complete unit is an unnecessary expense😳.
  13. Slacken off the bolt in centre of pulley. Slacken of lock nut on tensioner bolt that sits against the square galv washer. This will take the pressure off the belts. You should then be able to remove bolt from centre of roller. There are a pair of sealed bearings that sit against the shoulder on inside of roller. If the bearings won’t drop out with a light tap drop into wife’s pre warmed cooker at about 100C (spit on the roller and it should “sizzle”, they will then knock out with a suitable sized socket. Ensure you knock bearings out squarely and ware some thick leather gloves - it’ll be hot.
  14. There’s some good exploded diagrams on Specrum or Greenplants site (and others?) which will show you the parts.
  15. Pick it up, rub it between your fingers as if your Chris Packham and smell it, as someone as said - if it stinks it’s Fox scat or possibly Packhams personality🤔. A hedgehog passing something the same size as a middle finger would be equal to a human crapping an oxy or acetylene bottle😳
  16. Glad you and your family are ok Steve. Those things and cars aren’t a great mix. One young woman in one of those rickshaw taxi things was killed last weekend in Southwark when a drunk uninsured driver crashed into them. They had stopped for her friend to get out and go to a cash point when it was struck. Her friend was unhurt. Luis Fernando Balcazar-Soto as been charged with death by driving a vehicle whilst uninsured and in breach of a restraining order. Sounds like a good old Cockney name.

    Barkbox

Industry takes enough stick as it is without making things worse. Some top handles make more noise than some chippers.
  18. That’s the problem with all new machines now - circuit boards, electronics, sensor’s, etc,. Once hired in a Teupen which triggered a sensor on one of the legs and couldn’t be collapsed due to the fact I was above a branch! Ended up roping from basket and waiting 3 hours for engineer/ rocket scientist🤔. The only platform without electronics now is a tower scaffold🙄
  19. And paying Sick, Holiday and Maternity pay😳
  20. Grinding wheels and stone don’t really go together, you’ll ruin the teeth, the stone or both🤔. Surely your better off removing the bulk of the tree with a saw and exposing the stonework, remove the stonework( if it’s being repaired anyway)to expose the stump/ roots and remove that with an old axe or adge.
  21. If your quoting between 2-5 jobs a day and getting 70% of them your doing pretty good. That’s 7 - 17 jobs won a week. Are you running several teams? You’ve obviously got someone spending a lot of time quoting and doing something right 👍. I’ve found individual enquires have dropped off and so not so busy but have picked up some bigger jobs. Looking for a bit of time off this time of year anyway🤔
  22. Is Mr Angry from Purley on this forum? Can’t wait to hear what he thinks about it🤔
  23. “Doobin, you have passed on 8 questions and have scored no points”
  24. Thanks for adding this video, much more enlightened as to what can be achieved with this type of machine and of course a capable operator.
