  1. Sorry to hear about the theft and damage Ben, total scum bags. Good call on “do what they likies”. Locate caravan sites and then nearby woods and any maze fields remaining for the kit being left for any trackers to be ruled out. Vehicle tracks would be obvious in recent weather into those type of areas.
  2. Fair enough. I’m sure when we had a bobcat 27 the tracks used to scrape up the inside but that was probably me🤔.
  3. Doubt the GH1054 would be wide enough for most 2.6 ton diggers?
  4. As far as Auckland being a fun city it no different to any UK city, good parts, bad parts and pitsville. It’s got traffic when you commuting to work same as cities here. Having been all over North and South Island I’d personally go South. It’s got beautiful countryside, great biking roads, mountains and some of the best skiing in the world, oh! and work as well.
  5. Have you ever used one, mate as one carrying 2.6 ton digger, grab, etc and finds it ideal. It’s very well made and when I’ve used it I’ve been well impressed, so much so I’ve got one ordered. be interesting to find weight of a triple axle tilt bed with the extra axle, ram, hand pump and tank as I think payload would be down?
  6. There was someone on South Island looking for climbers in the last couple of months. Just keep scrolling back through the pages till you find them. Why do you want Auckland? It just like any other Cosmopolitan town! If you have no joy there just Google tree companies and contact them. New Zealand are opening up their migrant worker requirements so you should have some success. As far as visa requirement go to New Zealand web sites.
  7. Grinding the stump out would not of guaranteed killing this tree. It would have to be poisoned first. A lot of trees will send up suckers from the roots even after the stump is ground out - ever tried grinding out all the roots? Even the smallest piece of root could have enough stored energy to sprout and with a good soil and moisture conditions grow.
  8. It’s quite possible that if it’s access to the moor then who ever owns the moor owns the bridleway. Someone owns the moor. Strange that a farmer makes a statement that “your welcome to chop it down if your concerned”. If he doesn’t own it why make that comment? If he doesn’t own it - say nothing? Don't expect the ground to be stoned or tarmac, who ever owns it is only expected to maintain it level and graded so there’s no trip hazard, with adequate head/ side clearance, not sure of the minimum width required for donkey wollopers 🤔. Adverse winter conditions have to be expected and best left to dry out, can’t stop water running down? There must be some pieces of oak with far better access and less hassle than this one.
  9. There’s a few tree bods that have caused power outages around the country and what about the clowns that put the tree across the road in London narrowly missing a cyclist and the crew that put the tree across the road between some parked cars narrowly missing the woman- can’t find the videos? Most house gas explosions are from DIY folk and electric faults from people bypassing the meters. The regs covering electrical and gas installation is a joke but at least they’re regulated. Treework is non -regulated except where some clients ask for copies of the teams quals, insurance certs and RAMs etc. The AA goes some way to try and regulate/ control part of the tree industry.
  10. If the bridleway is on private land the “bridleway people?” have no right to take any wood away. By “bridleway people” presume either local council, parish footpaths officer or their contractors. What do you mean by “complete lack of responsibility taken for land either side” of the bridleway? Landowners should only take measures to ensure trees etc do not pose a risk to people using the bridleway, the rest of their land is for them to do with as they so wish.
  11. Exactly this - totally irresponsible and short sighted. That hedge won’t stand a reduction and ever look good. Think of a high price and double it. Reminds me also why the only two hedges I trimmed(apart from my own) were for the bloke that worked on my vehicles and he’s retired and moved and a wealthy couple who I also used to do all their tree work and they’re now divorced. Still working on how I get rid of my own hedges but think divorce will be a very high price to pay🤔
  12. What’s a red diesel bug? Not heard of this. Is it something the Russians planted as I believe a lot of red is imported from them. Or was! I’ve had problems with red glooping up the filters cos of bio diesel being added but not bugs🤔
  13. You say your not making much on the job after buying ladder and roof bars to carry it but haven’t yet seen the job🤔. Have you guessed a price or customer given you the price on the phone? If I was you I’d go and have a look at the job first, list what kit you need, purchase cost etc, before you decide a price. You don’t have to put all your cost of kit investment against the one job?Once you have the equipment your set up for other jobs.
  14. Well would you believe it🙄. Also they’re ever expanding naval boats seem to float quite well and they’re airforce are still flying in they’re fast jets with 5 years warranty?
  15. And then the whole population can have every aspect of their life’s controlled by the Saudi dictators🤔, not just most of it?
  16. Exactly my thinking (or how I thought?) been looking at the options for a while now and as you say 2nd hand are generally fetching more than new even 2 or 3 years old because they’ve a long lead up period for new and in short supply. The Sany 27 comes with 2 services ready for a grab/ rotator, up-grade another make without and add cost to base machine? And without having to switch from one to another? 5 year warranty sounds attractive except for some reason doesn’t include injectors? Hired one in a couple of weeks ago to clean out some awkward reach ditches and it performed no different to any other machine. Fitted with a Yanmar engine and I’ve never had a problem with other equipment fitted with them. What also as got me thinking is that some expensive Stihl saws I’ve got come with carbs made in china. Also take a look at your new ish? vehicles fitted with Bosch alternators? chance’s are it’s made in china? Aren’t some Bobcat’s made in France, Cats made in Eastern Europe 😳. Not many years ago no way would I buy anything made in France - the country that make cars with stupid looking funny suspension cars😂
  17. Surely if using a D4 the buckets, spare fuel etc can go in the pickup. One thing for sure as you’ve alluded to if using a 2.6/ 2.7 ton and a built to last Ifor type trailer you’ll probably be overweight with just the quick hitch?
  18. Even a half rotten cresoted pole will outlast a new freshly so called”treated” timber post in the ground?
  19. Second the recommendation for old tele/ elect poles. Don’t put cut end into ground, use the original butt where it’s been creosoted. As others have said don’t concrete as it seals in the moisture- I use scalpings tamped in 6” layers for all gate and straining posts these days. Phots are of a building at a farm park in Evesham area I visited with kids early in year. Looked quality work and built to last.
  20. I believe Herefordshire supplied a lot of the oak for Windsor Castle after the fire and looking at Soilscapes a vast majority of the soil is loam and clay or a mixture. These days of course straight grained, knot free wood is sought which is from forest and woodland stands but in the days of navy ship building the shipwrights sought out as many curved naturally bent pieces as possible for the main hull frames and stem to save the amount of hand tool work and steaming? These would of come from edge-grown or open grown trees.
  21. Apple trees will very often discard apples the tree cannot sustain. This can take place anytime after apples have set and is sometimes called the June drop but is affected by region, and weather conditions. If you have an abundant crop and don’t thin them out you could end up with small apples or worse broken/ failing branches. Remove apples that are obviously not going to develop into sound fruit - mis-shaped, damaged, insect/ grub/ bird damage, double or multiple clusters of apples should be reduced to ideally one large fruit. In the recent long unusually hot period more apples have been discarded than usual. Commercial growers will reduce the amount of pre harvest apple removal by pruning as required.
  22. Just quoted direction incase you had a go at trying it clockwise! As you know there are left and right hand threads. Your the one who couldn’t strip it down not me - crack on!
  23. The centre bolt should unscrew easy enough anti-clockwise with a socket and extended socket bar. There’s only a couple of sealed Timken type bearings so I’d just replace those. The complete unit is an unnecessary expense😳.
  24. Slacken off the bolt in centre of pulley. Slacken of lock nut on tensioner bolt that sits against the square galv washer. This will take the pressure off the belts. You should then be able to remove bolt from centre of roller. There are a pair of sealed bearings that sit against the shoulder on inside of roller. If the bearings won’t drop out with a light tap drop into wife’s pre warmed cooker at about 100C (spit on the roller and it should “sizzle”, they will then knock out with a suitable sized socket. Ensure you knock bearings out squarely and ware some thick leather gloves - it’ll be hot.
