  1. Then this afternoon we milled a small Wych elm crown. I’m so in love with elm...[emoji7] [emoji106]
  2. Started this morning with a scary piece of oak... Didn’t find the metal!!!?[emoji106]
  3. Shrinkage? Or zombies? [emoji6][emoji106]
  4. Yeah a 660/661 is fine for small milling up to about 28”-30” max There are major differences between the 661 and the 880. The 661 is more a high performance cross cutting saw. Whereas the 880 is a tractor. [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106] Logosol is, as Andy says a family owned business. However they presumably have a close relationship with Stihl. [emoji106]
  5. Lookin sharp bud[emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  6. How many more trip n slip accidents would happen after wearing that whilst cutting. After an hour you’d be f.......... Or... It’s a bit like the stihl 50cc coffee machine. But it’s October? ???[emoji106]
  7. And yes James is correct about 3/8 kerf being 10mm. [emoji106]
  8. Do it, but have a caveat that if it warps you’ve already warned him. After 8 years it should be fairly stable. [emoji106]
  9. Give me a bell if you want to have a chat about different set ups. 07376803384 [emoji106]
  10. You’ll need 2 panther mills and a logosol F2+. For dimensional beams, posts and square edged planks and small slabbing it’s the logosol F2+ with the stihl ms661. For 20”-42” slabs I use the 60” panther with 56” GB bar and stihl ms880 full comp .404 chain. For 42-74” slabs I use the 80” panther mill with 84” GB bar and stihl ms880 hyperskip .404 chain [emoji106]
  11. Logosol are going to be releasing an app for their kilns. Message me and I’ll send you a link if anyone would like to help testing? Thanks Saul [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  12. Stunning! [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  13. Or else they quit subbing and set up their own firm. Because most firms pay **** all. ???[emoji106]
  14. You’ve overpaid. And got lucky. Try doing that everyday. Find a local forester who can deliver to you. [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  15. Everything is spot on, except people DO pay a premium for wide single boards. Book matched pairs are cheaper. Yes, I run a slab shop too. [emoji106]
  16. Not a lot. 1. It’s leaning. The planks will either warp or split. 2. It’s got a hole in it. (Bad sign) 3. There’s 100,000 oak logs already on the ground in yards all over the country. 4. It’s expensive. 5. If it’s not forest grown, it’ll almost certainly contain nails etc. Whereabouts are you based? Lots of foresters on here sell logs. [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  17. On reflection.... You might be right. There’s only a few hundred grams between a 400 and a 500i. But a serious power difference. ???[emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]

    Elm?

Well done, that’s effort?[emoji106] Gobby will make something beautiful from that. I normally cut at: Up to 3’ wide, 2” thick Up to 4’ wide 3” Over 4’ wide 4”. This is so the cohesion of the fibres hold the board together and it’s own weight doesn’t snap it when lifted. [emoji106]
  19. 500i? Heavier. (200gm dry) And slower. But more torque. 462 has faster pickup and top end whilst in the wood. (According to stihl,) and I tested both. I’ve posted both videos several times. YouTube: roughhewnuk But yeah the 500i is bloody tasty, just the OP wants a 60ish cc. [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  20. Get a decent cant hook. That’s all we’ve got. [emoji106]
  21. Never once been paid more than day rate. Most firms don’t even pay extra for staying away or overtime. Good luck [emoji106]
  22. Don’t try that with a smaller digger! Got a 7 ton jcb stuck to an oak tree about ten years ago. Didn’t have the power to push it over and it wasn’t that big either. Have used 26 ton 360’s to pull massive leaning edge trees over. No effort.....crunch! Big machines yes. Little ones....NO! ???[emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  23. Yes it’s great wood, beautiful grain and lots of medullary rays. Try @carefell tree surgeons Highly recommended professionals. [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  24. Get a mate with a long 4’ stick to hold the nose up til it’s in the wood [emoji106]
  25. All 4’ I would double stack but really annoying people keep walking up to my new stack and buying them all! So annoying??? [emoji6][emoji106]
