  1. Yeah £100 a ton delivered is generous as there’s not a big market for it. [emoji106]
  2. Bit of cankered, spalted olive ash today. [emoji106]
  3. When I was 22 I worked in a specialist kite shop. The previous week to me starting bbc2 had done a 30 minute documentary on kite surfing. Everyday a middle aged plump balding chap would walk into the shop and say” I’ve seen this program on TV, I’d like to buy all the gear please”. Now this created the same problem. Hand over £2k of sales to a guy who’s going to F**k up first time he goes out, potentially fatally. So eventually the bosses offered incredibly expensive training lessons. Booked for months in advance. [emoji106]
  4. Chip is a product. Lots sell to biomass companies. [emoji22]
  5. If you don’t like a species of tree it’s probably because you don’t understand the tree or it’s uses. Every tree I’ve disliked in the past has turned into an amazing tree once I’d learned a lot more about it and it’s place in the world. (But I’m not a fan of thorn trees) ???[emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  6. I’ve been assisting a friend milling with his Logosol b1001 recently. He’s got the smart set too but not set up yet. It’s an incredible piece of kit. Great motors ,materials and engineering. I’ll be upgrading to a bandsaw one day, this is the one I’ll be getting. [emoji106]
  7. What about phone round your local tree surgeons? Offer a free log drop site? Put yourself on the tip site directory? Get tree surgeons to drop of van loads of free conifer trunks you can cut up with your chainsaw. Got a garden? Bag up your split logs in onion bags stack em up high, stick a roof/lid on it. Got saw experience? Completely desperate for work? Have you considered a career in arboriculture? Lots of firms rushed off their feet right now looking for staff. Where are you based? [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  8. Look buddy you ask a question from professionals. You don’t like the answer, so it’s **** you I’ll do it anyway??? If you’re that desperate don’t take a saw. Just a piece of string to tie up the dead branches you find on the ground. Good luck [emoji106]
  9. Chainsaw trousers won’t stop a large saw on full throttle. The test for saw trousers is full speed then throttle off and drop saw on to trousers. [emoji106]
  10. Get “C” rated all round protected trousers. Winters coming[emoji106]
  11. Pin hole worm bastards. Strip the bark off. [emoji106]
  12. Worth a National petition? ???[emoji106]
  13. From what I’ve been told a lot of the bigger saws are manufactured in Germany as the engineering precision is better. [emoji106]
  14. If it’s your woodland, no problem. Not your woodland... Theft Criminal damage Trespass Going equipped to commit crimes Conservation areas TPO’s SSSI’s Not to mention potentially violent land owners often equipped with dogs and shotgun. Get permission. [emoji106]
  15. Spoonerism’s!!! [emoji106]
  16. Colonel stoopnagle may be the original, but there are many versions including a 7” record released in 1962.
  17. Andy, my point was, it shouldn’t take two tanks to cut a 10’ board. A very common mistake I made for a long time was using a standard depth gauger tool, .325,3/8 etc It’s doesn’t do .404 that’s a separate tool. I’d had my depth gauges sat too high for years??? I know you know your stuff mate. [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  18. I used to use a standard depth gauger(0.65mm) til I got a chart with my grinder. It reccomends 0.85 for .404 So I give my depth gauges an extra tickle with the grinder. Reckon it’s somewhere (0.8-.9) That’s for full comp I’ll be experimenting with the hyper skip soon. As there’s less teeth might go 1mm? (I am not a mechanic or engineer). [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  19. It’s not the felling, try crosscutting 50” trunks with a 20” bar. And it’ll be an expensive trunk too, No cutting wedges out! ?[emoji106]
  20. Whilst the 880’s new engine is bedding in, we cut some nice pippy yew on the logosol F2+ with the stihl 661. And a bit more local oak, satisfying to lay down timber[emoji106] [emoji106]
  21. Yeah, I don’t really use 880’s for felling. A 661 with 36” bar (or less) will tackle 99% of British trees. [emoji106]
