  1. Perfectly normal. It means the air filter is working. I clean my 880 filter after every cut, as the sawdust and chip are much finer when ripping compared to cross cutting. [emoji106]
  2. Got an email about the 500i milling today from Logosol. So yes it’s been tested for milling[emoji106] [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  3. Only if it’s got spalting or you like plain white wood. Got one to mill in a fortnight, full of crazy colours I’m hoping. [emoji106]
  4. Sale starts tomorrow. 25% off for arbtalkers!!! Call or message to book an appointment. 07376803384 Saul [emoji106]
  5. Nope. Ever used an 880? Read up on modern saws. I ran 051’s,056S,075’s, etc. Complete joke compared to a modern saw. That’s why I sold all my dinosaurs. I get offered 070’s and 090’s regularly, total waste of time. Ok fir hobby milling though. But not for professionals. [emoji106]
  6. But you’ve got the saw back and it’s working properly?
  7. 070’s are a good old milling saw. Gutsy. But very slow (8krpm,6k in the wood). Incredibly fuel inefficient and almost no AV. Total tank!? but you can upgrade the pot and piston to 137 or 160cc[emoji848][emoji848][emoji848] When you start to cut big slabs, you will need to refill in the cut. I’ve found I can cut 12’x3.5’ oak with one tank. Longer or wider and you’re refuelling. [emoji6][emoji106]
  8. Did you take a look at the damage at all? Sounds like it’s your local dealer dragging his feet? ??‍♂️
  9. What fuel do you use? That’s very strange to lose a piston at 29 hours. Just bedding in. [emoji848]
  10. Had quite a few different boots over the years. But Bolams right.???[emoji106] Andrews. Best boots by far. [emoji106]
  11. Too good to burn mate. It’s all top and bottom boards. I sell them for £5,10 and £20. Or give them to irate neighbours/kids/pisspoorwoodworkers/charities etc Swapped a few last week for about 20 double glazed panels from the glaziers working opposite. Next year if all’s well. I’ll be building a more permanent shop. If so... I’ll be calling on my milling mates around the country to help stock it. I know quite a few millers who don’t have access to a market. Bit like artists and galleries. Any advice or help mate, you’ve got my number. [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  12. Neither. Go 500i Better with a 28” than both those. 200 grams difference between a 462 and 500i [emoji106]
  13. All British hardwoods, From big slabs, boards, beams mantles and wood art. Air dried, semi seasoned and fresh cut. [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  14. Decided to have a wood sale next week from Monday 12th to Sunday. 25% off for all arbtalkers!!!![emoji16][emoji106] Message or call me to book an appointment. [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106][emoji106][emoji106] [emoji106]
  15. ????? No I get a discount on panther, and Logosol sent me a mill to test. That’s it. What you can’t see in the photos of the yard is this. Three quarters of the main building has collapsed. We’ve put up 17 x 16’ roofing panels, Built a two and a half storey gable end from offcuts, reinforced various dodgy masonry, put in about 12 windows, painted as much as possible, and moved 20-30 tons of crap. And it’s all getting bulkdozed in August next year. I pay rent. All problems I fix. No bounce back loans. No corporate backing. I do all this off my own back with the help of subbies, friend, volunteers, family etc. You don’t see the 12-14 hour days on site for weeks on end as I don’t post that. [emoji106]
  16. Brest is in west France. And the u boat pens are in St nazaire. But Berlin is the coolest city I’ve ever lived in. Prenzlauberg and kreutzberg (92) [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  17. Er... that’s a lassie bud. Spec savers time? ?[emoji106]

    New tool day

That’s a hewing axe for finishing log sides. Nice bit of kit. [emoji106]
  19. Wood filler? Are you painting it after? [emoji106]
  20. The 500i is only 80cc. You’d need a bigger saw to mill anything over 24”. [emoji106]
  21. The reasons why no one I know uses a 3120 for milling is... A. front tensioner. B. Side caps for fuel and oil. With an 880 you can tension it in the mill, And on a big cut you can refuel with out having to back up to the start. Otherwise the 3120 is an ok saw. [emoji106]
  22. I don’t get paid at all. But I do have an arrangement with Panther mills and Logosol and another organisation which I can’t discuss yet...[emoji848][emoji6] Because I really like their kit.[emoji16] If it wasn’t, I wouldn’t rave about it so much. And I push my mills to the limits regularly so I know they’re solidly engineered and manufactured. [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  23. Lastly, a piece of sycamore I’ve had kicking around for a while. All milled with the stihl ms880 and the panther 80” mill using Oregon hyperskip chain. And a One cut, milling job. Ripping a 90mm walnut slab in two. A good day. [emoji106]
