  1. Tell him luckily enough you also live on Skye and can come but at any time.
  2. I’d never be happy with being static. Too many odd jobs that I’m asked to go to plus moving around my own yard. 1M wide logs is about as wide as I’d go I think? Anything more then I’d get the Panther out.
  3. Lots of laughing from you Leslie and as per usual very light on insight. Stick to knocking out fence posts mate.
  4. I qualified that comment with my far narrower 24” Cant. [emoji38] Will be interesting to see if the owner of the B1001 on here manages with his max cut. I can see me getting a bigger mill within a year or two and would be good to see how he gets on with it.
  5. Set up right a wider mill (within reason) is no less accurate. I’m a perfect 3mm cut (the minimum my mill I’ll cut) across the max width of 24” on my mill. Dial your mill in accurately, correct band tension, correct set and a correct sharpen will go a long way to accurately of cut. I’d not be surprised if the Logosol B1001 is accurate across its far wider cant than my 24”.
  6. Good advice there! I have the Log Turner for my winch now. It doubles up as a winch for loading but I generally just use it to turn big logs. Makes logs up to 30” a one man job again. Being Logosol it’s well engineered and very heavy duty.
  7. It’s all good. I don’t mind if you take the mick of my hobby. [emoji16]
  8. Fair enough. 🤣 Pot calling the Kettle Black springs to mind though. Glorified garden maintenance workers who on the whole barely making more than minimum wage who go around complaining about dog shit in the grass.
  9. I did state that the Woodland Mills sharpener is the Grindlux, but no matter. 🤣 Im £7 a band but that’s plus shipping. So the more you send at once the less shipping is per band. I’m in Scotland and ship them the Wales. I think I’m £30 shipping in total so for 10 bands I’m a tenner a band. 20 like last time then I’m £8.50. My thinking was the same. 1-2 sharpens then off to the pro. I’ll set mine up sometime when I’m less busy. I quite like sharpening too. Got a Tormek For knives and chisels. Keeping an eye out for the HSS planer knife jig if one ever comes up used. But Bands get rather monotonous rather quickly.
  10. I think I’m £7 for a sharpen and set from a pro that is well versed with Ripper Blades. Setting is as important as sharpening so if you’re buying one tool you’ll need the other. Thankfully Woodlands make a very nifty looking setting tool for very reasonable money. That sharpening stone will not work with a chainsaw chain sharpener and is for more professional band sharpeners. I have the Grindlux 4000, I think they are now owned by Logosol but could be wrong. Logosol and Woodlands both put their stickers on it and rebrand it to their own part numbers. It’s a great wee sharpener from the reviews but I’m yet to use mine in anger yet. I think they are over £700 inc vat now. So £700 for a sharpener, £300 for the setting tool and all the hours sitting watching them do their thing. I just don’t have the time for that. So I’ve got over 30 bands now. I use 10 and have 10 sent away for sharpening. It’s done right and work every time. I’ve killed 3 used once bands setting up my Grindlux 4000. That’s equivalent to over 14 sharpens.
  11. I thought you where going all Samuel L Jackson with the MF description of your stoves. How about adding a 5mm sheet of steel to the bottom of one to gauge the difference in the stoves performance? If you see a noticeable difference then spend the £90 on each of them. I think at £90 each Id consider just getting some 10-12mm plate cut to size and run that.
  12. If the tree ends up being a total loss then perhaps consider having the timber milled on location and when dried have something made out of it to remember it by? Some outdoor furniture in the same location for example.
  13. I charge £400 for a days milling plus bands with my B751 when milling at a customers location. I charge £40 an hour if they bring the log to me.
  14. If you’re already stretching your budget to a Woodlands 130 then have to find the extra cash for a B751 I can assure you the extra £2-3,000 for a B1001 is not “negligible”. You can also get the same engine for the B1001 on the B751 if you option for this. My plan was to buy the 14hp engine and upgrade to the larger engine at a later date but the reality is the B751 really does not need it. I can happily mill up to 30” Oak and not have the mill feel underpowered. When this 14hp packs in I’ll get the larger engine.
  15. What in your opinion is the difference between the B751 pro and the B1001 that makes you not even consider the B751 Pro?
  16. It’s a very well thought out and built machine. Two year guarantee that I’ve tested and they ship the parts out very quickly. They just want a picture of the faulty item and the ship it out. Ive set my Mill up as precisely as possible and can take 3mm veneer cuts the full 24” width of cut. I’ve never had an issue with the bearings, I think it’s a fairly standard design on mills like Norwood, but could be wrong? I often mill oak logs up to the full 30” the mill can handle and I push it hard and to the limits. I was in the same situation as you, looking for a smaller and cheaper mill but found it hard to look past the Logosol. I don’t have the “Pro” version as they where not out at the time of purchase but I’d try and buy the Pro if you can as you have a much larger choice of attachments you can purchase later. I have to modify them to fit my mill.
  17. I agree to a point. But we’re talking of the difference of inches here, not feet. I don’t think anyones suggesting getting a mill the size of the one you used to run, or Dave currently runs. Just that if you’re thinking of getting a 126 then pushing the boat out and getting a 130 is not really going to affect the accuracy of the cut and if you do ever get a log that needs the extra width you’re covered.
  18. My budget was really for a Woodlands 130 but then I spotted the new Logosol offering and having worked with the Logosol M7 and M8 and reading reviews I knew the build quality was very good. They took the best design features of similar sized Norwood and Woodmizer Mills and incorporated them into their design and added a few clever ideas of their own as well. I know Logosol have very good support.
  19. Price, spec, location and pics please.
  20. But locked deep within a log and flushed out with the pitter patter of rain? But you’re right, let’s leave it at that.
  21. But there would be obvious signs of that process happening surely? Do you realistically see the resin being flushed out beyond a few millimetres without any pressure being applied? I assume you realise how viscus resin is?
  22. Do you see an accumulation of Resin collecting below? Could it be that it’s partially seasoning sitting outside?
