  1. I had to do the very same with my brother yesterday, over keen with the sledge hammer. But I cant help thinking that you'd get a similar effect with a ladder on the top and still banging the wedges in as you go. Of course the rigidity of the ladder will stop it being as severe, but I think you'd still see it.
  2. That’s what I do as well.
  3. Might be uneven chain sharpening. The straight edge when used to remedy this is preventing it happening again. Have you tried a fresh out of the box chain?
  4. Very rarely do I just sit an Alaskan on a log and mill away without first using a Chainsaw in a conventional way. Even if you don’t need to use a chainsaw prior to Milling you really should have a good grasp of how to use a Chainsaw before you throw what will most likely be 90cc plus Saw on a log.
  5. Not if it’s Chinesium. Opps. Should have read more than just the first few and last post. 🤣
  6. These seem to be woodworm free and I hope they stay that way! My brother will get his cut to size later this week. I’m at least a year away from that.
  7. I got excited over them all. Kinda christened them. 😁
  8. Finally got around to milling/re-sawing the Ash I bought over a year ago. Half for me, half for my Brother. We both plan on using the slabs as kitchen worktops. Slabs where all around 90cm-110cm wide x 3.3m long. Was worried they would be rock hard and the mill/084 would not manage. Well, I’m glad to say it was a piece of cake. I also comfortably managed to mill all four slabs without a re-sharpen. This was with the STIHL 46RCX ripping chain.
  9. Very nice location, I would never get owt done, due to looking at the scenery. It's a wonder that them sheets didn't fold themselves in half whilst you were driving. There’s a couple of 2x6” under the sheets. And some straps holding them down. Thankfully was only going 1 mile up the back road so crawled along at 20mph. 😁 Never seen another vehicle.
  10. Cheers Gobby, I’d beg to differ though. [emoji849]
  11. I think he likes the idea of wanting a sawmill, not sure if he'll actually ever pull the trigger.
  12. Thanks. A work in progress. A lean-too and deck area going in as well. Deck area will be 5m x 4.7m. Managed to pick up some roof sheeting 7m long but a wee bit bashed for £30.
  13. Cheers. Jaws are a work in progress, they’ve not been screwed in yet. But the thickness they take up is no more than the wood that was screwed to them already. Not sure how they’ll hold up but the wood was gonna end up in the fire anyway.
  14. It’s nice knowing the first log I milled will be in almost daily use.
  15. Does not take long in filling it up though!
  16. Ah yeh, it’s 600mm wide. That’s as wide as my Mill can go. But I think it’s wide enough. It’s the same width as the plans I loosely followed.
  17. I’ll be doing the next Bench in 5” thick. This is 2.75” Beech Slab. It’s plenty thick for my needs.
  18. Funnily enough the missus said the same thing. If I manage to look after it I might move it to the Cabin I’m away to start on. Well, when I say start on I mean start milling the 6” Beams.
  19. Just the usual for me. Danish oil. 🤣 2.5 litres of the stuff and it was still sucking it in. 4 coats though.
  20. Needed a new workbench for the new workshop, really just something til I build a Roubo but as that could still be some time away I thought I’d build a strong but simple bench out of the first tree I milled. So the top and legs are Beech and the rails and slats are Oak.
  21. So zero heating or using something else?
  22. I like the idea of a Wind Turbine. We certainly get more wind than sun where I am. [emoji16] What issues have you had with it and how much was the instal?
  23. Seen snow on the hills behind my house yesterday, we’re not even in the highlands and it’s not even November yet. I hope your forecast is correct, not had a real winter in years.
  24. You need to contact them directly to get that info. Its not really advertised. Id make the buyer take full responsibility for any damage during transit. Pics loaded on the truck and the rest is on them. I accepted this for the Chip Extractor.
