  1. No bother milling this lumpy Elm with a Winch. Super smooth cuts too. Thought it would be full of burr but unfortunately not.
  2. I guess thats a matter of opinion. I have no issue using a winch with gnarly logs, just takes some forethought. As I said, light pressure on the winch takes the majority of the workload off of your back and arms. You still have full feedback and control, you're working smart, not hard. But each to their own.
  3. To add to that list Id also add uneven force applied to the mill itself. Its all to easy to start to lift the front or rear of the mill. Which will cause the chain to want to dig in or raise int eh cut depending on how you're leaning on the Mill. Then you also have the fact you have the weight of the saw hanging off of one end as well that needs somewhat compensated for, especially with such a little mill as that. I find it good practice to be constantly checking all your angles when Milling. Watching for lift at the front and rear. Its also all to easy to start laterally 'sawing' with the Alaskan instead of a nice longitudinal cut. You'll get through the log quicker but you'll end up with a crappy finish. Another option for sharpening is a Granberg Precision grinder. You can get them in the UK as well. its Bar Mounted and a life saver in the field if you hit metal. I use it in conjunction with a set of verniers to ensure the teeth are the same length each side. It also takes the rakers down. https://granberg.com/product/g1012xt-precision-grinder-12v/?v=c2f3f489a005
  4. Why would you run the Saw with anything other then full throttle? The only time Im not full chat is at the start and end of the cut. Both instances dont need the Winch anyway. I find you need to apply just a gentle pressure on the winch, just enough to keep the mill engaged in the cut. As the Chain starts to blunten then you need to add more force but obviously keeping the applied force low enough so as not to start tilting the Mill. Your back will thank you in the long run if you manage to get the hang of correctly utilising a Winch.
  5. Ah yeh, I get ya now. I quite agree. Its a sad reflection on how society is today. Its worth keeping in mind there numerous cases of abuse that children faced when being sent away for WW2, not just sexual but used as slaves to work the farms etc. Not everyone had an idyllic time. Then we have all the covenants full of young girls getting abused and obviously boys as well in orphanages. Its not a modern occurrence, it was just hidden and shameful before. But the cost of being more open about sexual abuse is we're ready to linch anyone who has the finger pointed at them and that's their life ruined after than. (assuming they where innocent of course) Its the same with sexual harassment in the workplace. It absolutely should not be tolerated but things have gone to far now. You can laugh and joke with a few lads and lassies during the day and the girl can decide at a later date that what was joked about was harassment and put an official complaint in. 100% you'll be hauled over the coals. Work now seems to have an invisible barrier up now. Ive had a couple of girls sit on my lap off-shore. As much as I enjoyed it I was bricking myself that it could come back to haunt me. If a girl wants to hug, or kiss cheeks, or make sexual jokes I dont get involved anymore, just in case. And we have a couple of stunners on our crew as well. Great for getting priority Crane Lifts.
  6. Agreed, the Chinese numbers are known beyond doubt to be completely fabricated and no longer worth giving China the satisfaction of including them. Its a small slap in the face for them, and we need to issue a lot more of those.
  7. I’m not sure what you’re driving at?
  8. Seems to be making a lot of political decisions though. Websters has Politician defined as; a person who is active in politics, esp. as a job. Seems there is quite the precedent for allowing Advisors to run the show from behind the curtain. https://blog.oup.com/2019/03/how-tony-blair-advisers-changed-government/ If you think driving a few hours to drop your kid off is bad wait til you hear what Alastair Campbell got up to during the Blair Years.
  9. But you did just post a Twitter comment, with zero context. All Politicians are liars, you must know that by now, surely? You seem to have an issue with Tory lies above all other parties. It really clouds your judgement and cheapens any valid opinion you might have had.
  10. Id not bother with the X27 if you already a Maul. I think the X27 is a fad to be honest.
  11. Are you asking me to form an opinion on a tweet you posted with some quotation written by a Shane Bailey?
  12. No, I do agree there. He really has to go so as to maintain some form of grip on the 'lock-down'. If it Dam walls where cracking before they've certainly burst now.
  13. Would you leave you children for extended periods of time with anyone other than family? Pedo's are never the ones you expect are they?
  14. I hope it does not split then. Four months lying on the ground would have done little to reduce the MC. Might be worth keeping in a cool garage or shed for a few months before finishing? Another option would be when it splits if fill the split with something? Resin maybe? I'll have a look at Axminster for some knives.
  15. With an honest description I assume?
  16. Very nice! How long did you dry the wood before carving? What knives do you use? Was thinking of getting some of my own. I really like Danish Oil, its food and Child safe, really makes the wood pop and has a shell like finish.
  17. You certainly know your stuff. Some pretenders here.
  18. Define idiots. You're claiming its idiots who are not social distancing yet you've just described the majority of Sweden. Lumping the minute number of weirdo's who think 5g causes C-19 along with those who dont social distance is simply stupid. Sweden also has a vast immigrant population/problem, these people generally dont care about Social Distancing, in Sweden or their home countries. Their ghettos are over populated and sub-standard as well. Below is some pictures of Swedes going about their life during Corona Times. You've been conditioned to call people who do this in the UK 'covidiots' by the media. Yet for some reason when Sweden does the same on a national scale they are not idiots?
  19. Global Warming? Ok. My living is made with neither. By the time I retire in 25 years I'll be in the same industry as I am now I expect. Thats Oil and Gas. Gotta keep the Oil flowing! Get this earth warmed up a little more, bloody freezing up my way.
  20. Id be interested in the 390? I have a knackered one at home that I could cobble together with this one to make one good one? But would need to be posted though? Ive had a few in the post over the years.
  21. Cheers. How do you check what Pension you have? Or are you referring to a Private Pension only? How do you find out how much assets you need to qualify?
  22. No no, its on his own head. But the Tory Remainers will make full use of this to dispose of the architect of Boris Brexit plan. At least Starmer is now saying he's not gonna try and drag us back into the EU. But who cant trust politicians? I guess the Party have finally realised that the general population do not want back into the EU and its a losing policy to pin your flag to. But what he says and what he does could be a very different matter, considering he's another Remoaner.
  23. Agreed. Although I fear the Remoaners will use this as leverage. Stupid Dom!
  24. I have to agree here too. I think he should be hung out to dry for his actions. If you're gonna advice and this advice becomes enforceable by the police then you better make damn sure you follow that advice. Id have done the same as him, mind. But that's not the point.
  25. The Civil Service is becoming the Tail that wags the Dog. Unaccountable and unelected shadowy figures that have got to big for their boots. There seems to be little civility from them these days nor do they seem themselves as servants.
