  1. I thought you lifted one of my pictures there. [emoji3] I have a picture kinda like that. I find after a fresh sharpen I get nice clean chips fading to what you describe as Oatmeal as I move along the cut. of course that depends on the size of log and species etc. The Last log i did with an Alaskan maxed out my 48" Mill with a 48" Bar and 2/3 along I was back to oatmeal but still cutting fine. So I did one more pass then another light sharpen.
  2. Thank you. Apart from the one line you misquoted me on what did I actually get wrong in my last post? im still none the wiser why you've taken offence at what Ive stated either?
  3. Good grief this is a new low, even for you.
  4. The place is quite friendly, but if I wanted to know how to suck eggs Id go ask grandma.
  5. Why the US of course. Maybe Canada. These days preferably Canada but Id still be quite happy in Texas. Of course half my family are from Plymouth, which in itself quite fitting for embarking to the New World.
  6. Yeh, I kinda think thats the reason for the post.....
  7. Ok, let me clarify. Id do away with the current EU driven legislation as its all but enforcing Kiln Dried. What's to follow will be even more restrictive. And yes, as much you intend to insult me for not sharing your point of view I do feel in many ways Id be happier living a few hundred years ago.
  8. Yes, Im aware of why the current legislation is in force. This is not consumer led though is it? noun 1. the continuous line forming the boundary of a closed geometric figure. Within the perimeter of the current legislation. I read countless facebook posts about folk worrying that they can no longer buy green wood. Yes, you can if its over 2m3 but 1, they generally dont know that and 2, they are not choosing these perimeters. The consumer is being dictated to as to what MC they can buy and that is getting to the point of Kiln Dried logs only. The customer is not dictating anything here. We have a Nanny State. If i had my way then we'd do away with the legislation altogether and allow the customer to make their own decisions and then truly dictate the market. ring Fencing them then telling me they are making these decisions is baffling. Im certainly not saying it cant be. But then you're limiting your drying period significantly and the demand will outstrip the supply trying to reach some arbitrary MC content.
  9. Its another reason I like the Granberg Precision Grinder. Once you have sharpened all the teeth to the same length you can then rotate the grinder 90 degrees to the chain, kiss the grinder on the tip of the tooth then very accurately select the depth of the raker with a few clicks. Accurate and precise each and every time, even in the field.
  10. We already have 'a centralised decision making fork.' We're being legislated against for what Stoves are allowed to be sold with restrictions getting ever tighter. Is this Customer driven? I certainly dont think so. Now we're getting told what MC wood needs to be set at. Is this something the customer is demanding? Yet again Id say no. This repeats in all walks of our lives, none of it Customer led. The customer may well set the market but they do so within a given perimeter. Legislation sets that perimeter. If we're going down this Nanny State of rules and regulations for every facet of our lives and having the sale of firewood controlled to such a degree that Kiln Dried Firewood is to become the new norm and almost enforced, encouraged by the suppliers and then blindly demanded by the consumer then yes, I feel we need legislation put in place to halt and then reverse the farce we're now facing.
  11. kind of. Id say legislation is the ultimate deciding factor on how a supply chain works. As kiln drying is clearly a colossal waste of energy and CO2 for firewood production then if the correct legislation and information was available to the customer as to why its no longer available then Air dried would return to being the norm. Seller who sell their logs as kiln Dried when in fact they are using a Solar Kiln or a Polytunnel are confusing the issue somewhat and I can see why they would want to jump on the Kiln dried bandwagon. Im my eyes they are just air drying but more efficiently. Something that could be legislated for if kiln dried, ie,real kiln drying was withdrawn for the obvious environmental impact.
  12. Oi! Thats my line!
  13. OK, not had an issue using Stihl or GB Bars for the last three years. I guess it does not have to be Sugi Bars, just personal preference?
  14. Not me. Making more money than ever.
  15. You keep saying each to their own but you're also calling him out for his choices? Which is it?
  16. I will, but surely you see the irony of calling him out for his choices?
  17. Why?
  18. Well, you can see where a risk lies but still want your chicken. You may feel its a risk worth taking based on your own personal circumstances but still realise its inherent risk to others who might not be as spatially aware. So it could well be a good idea to inform the Shop Owners of what appears to be an oversight. Personally I don't give two sheets to C-19 now so a man with it breathing down my neck and spreading it around to others who are as equally happy to take the risks bothers me not one iota.
  19. I use an 088. Its a great saw as well if your budget cant stretch to a fancy 880. I used a 064 with my 36" Mill and that was also perfect for the smaller Mill. A 038 is simply to small for Hardwoods in my opinion. Maybe ok if you're just knocking out skinny softwood I guess?
  20. I see Logosol is coming out with an App to help run it. Punch in some parameters and it gives you the settings etc.
  21. That was my thinking. Hit a Nail with a Band and you've instantly lost a £30-£35 Blade. Hit a Nail with a Chain and you just have to resharpen it, maybe take 1-2mm off. I'm not proud to admit it but Ive hit the log rests twice now with my Logosol Mill. Both times just kissed it and the bands where savable. I was watching the Norwood vids with some nice old guy in the US doing training vids and he said to keep watching and checking the log rests so as not to cut into them. Then promptly cut into the log rests.
  22. I have the same set-up on my Mill. Is certainly handy seeing the Band Tension Adjuster when Towing.
  23. Cool, so you get good results with it? I like this kit as its the whole package including Logosols freshly designed insulated box for drying in.
  24. I recon that Hi-Vis vest tied around the tension handle could tell a story.
  25. Id pop into the clinic for that.
