  1. OK cheers. Kinda makes sense now. I really need to see it in action to see its function. I'll be splitting logs around 40cm long but i have a bunch of 30cm beech rounds that my log bombs just wont touch and look forward to showing those buggers who's boss. I'll mainly be using mine for personal use but interested it making it earn its keep. If its not to personal how do you use it for commercial purposes? Ie do you rent out the Splitter on a day rate? Or rent out the splitter plus operator on a day rate? do you get much interest? What kinda day rates do you charge?
  2. I still dont get it. I can feel a Homer Simpson Doh! Moment coming. I'm clearly completely missing its function. When splitting in the vertical the log need not lift off the ground, just shuffle it onto the plate which is maybe 1-2cm thick with a taper/chamfer. Is this the 'lift' they are referring to? To drag the log onto the plate? You cant split in the horizontal with this Splitter so clearly you're not lifting the log up for splitting in horizontal position? Or is this a mish-mash and its actually for lifting in the horizontal position, which with factory settings you cant split in anyway?
  3. Never noticed a typo? I think Craig got the wrong end of the stick.
  4. Maybe not news but gave me a chuckle.
  5. It is a lot of money and its put me off getting one. I fail to see why it costs £5000 when their B751 Bandsaw with the engine included is just another grand on top. Looks very portable though and then also easy to put away and not taking up much space. logosol really do seem to build quality stuff. Heres a pic of one thats been modified.
  6. I like the idea of water butts as a means of weighting Slabs. Easy to put in place and then fill then drain after. Saves a lot of back breaking work. 350 litres is of course only 350 kg of weight. Might be worth adding more considering you're trying to remove bows/warping as opposed to trying to prevent it. How long did you soak the Slab and how did you do this? Id imagine you'd need to completely submerge the slab for about a week to be effective. I was watching a video on soaking wood chunks in water before putting them on the BBQ to create smoke. The guy added dye to the water then cut the chinks up after 24 hours of being submerged and it was surprising how little the dyed water penetrated the wood. And this was maybe 2" cubes. Maybe steam would be the best option? Build a crate and buy a Wallpaper remover or two, leave for 24-48 hours and then weight down.
  7. What diameter was the trunk? Almost seems a shame to burn it.
  8. I can really offer much help, but if you're not planning on doing a significant amount of big logs have you considered the Logosol offering? Big Mill Wide Slabber | Wide Slabber Sawmills | Sawmills | LOGOSOL WWW.LOGOSOL.COM We at Logosol offers the best woodworking machinery, with a wide range of saw mills, band saws, planers and other joinery...
  9. I could live with that. As long as the tax on people who worked for a living did not increase.Sounds good in principle, would never work in reality. people have gotten far to used to allowing the government molly coddle them. Once the same dossers who currently live off of the Dole have blown their allocation they and all the bleeding hearts would demand more for them. Inevitably via green eyes and then through either an increase in tax on those who work of a reduction/removal of their UI. Would never happen. Far to many bleeding hearts out there. It could be argued its not the children's fault so they need taken care of financially and then bingo, the worse elements of the UK are breeding like rats again and coining it in. With so many currently being on furlough and receiving 80% of their previous wage everyone seems happy to doss about at home. Suddenly swathes of people are to scared to return to work, which is convenient as they have more free cash than ever. Now clearly Im no economist but if the people of the UK are not producing anything how will taxes be raised? Its all well and good saying Robots will produce it all for us but I simply cant get my head around how that would work. If people are not earning a wage how can they buy anything? Surely inflation would go through the roof, it sounds utterly unsustainable. It also sounds like communist BS if Im honest.
  10. In this scenario would everyone get UI regardless if they worked or not? Or would the UI stop or decrease with the more you earned actually working for a living?
  11. i think he means something like this? https://www.forestry-suppliers.com/product_pages/products.php?mi=14961&itemnum=75058
  12. If you have a vid it would be great to see. I really cant envision how the lifting bracket works. Why would you need to lift a log if milling in the Vertical? Will be weeks before im home and its bugging me. Ive got a hookaroon and tongs coming in the mail soon as well. Save my back time!
  13. I never stated it was a fact. Its merely my opinion. As you say its impossible to prove either way. But if there was a bet to be made then Id be so confident in my views Id bet the house on it. There's a huge different between stating something is fact and they shying away from that when you get your arse handed to you.
  14. not sure if that's an attempt at humor or you genuinely believe that. Its hard to tell.
  15. I see the left love to get their panties in a bunch over Dom breaking the rules but these deluded clowns get a free pass and silence. At least now we have the left and right agreeing its a pointless waste of time trying to enforce it any longer. I certainly wont be. If cornered i'll say BLM.
  16. Id bet the house on the percentage of those 'protesters' voting Tory being single figures.
  17. I initially took offence at that but then realised it’s true. ?
  18. Still a touchy subject? That’s mad.
  19. Ah thats right, so it was. Sounds like something you'd suggest though.
  20. Not about anything when he was in office no. But if he's seen something off the record, and there is no record of him seeing it, and its after he's retired then although I'll assume he's skating on thin ice I doubt there is anything they can do to him.
  21. Ah thats right, you're the plank that was telling us all to piss in the sink to save the world.
  22. Oh, sorry. I thought you said it was the same guy. I dont know actually. It matters little to me. Its the position he held that to me is the important bit. I dont need to know or care about his political leanings.
  23. you seemed to take offence about him voicing his valid claims about Corbyn. As a warning? If you believe its true then maybe its the right thing to do? If he has seen some evidence, but cant share it then even more so? We're not talking about some dithering old MP here, we're talking about the former chief of the M16. Someone who is clearly astute and has the education and intelligence to back up his point of view. I seriously doubt he'd put his head above the parapet and further risk his reputation without good reason or evidence. It sounds like you've taken a personal objection to both of his statements and have then formed a hostile opinion about him, which of course you claim otherwise.
  24. What? Where did I even remotely state such a thing? You may very well doubt it. Personally I think its quite naive to believe that its not a distinct possibility. There has been a plethora of leaks to the media on both sides of the Pond within the last few years. Is it so far fetched to think that leaking something like this to someone who held such a high rank and has the respect of many? I dont think so. But again, Im not saying its whats happened, but I think he deserves to be heard and not told to shut his mouth because he cant wave a document in front of the camera. I think you have a clear prejudice against him and its clouding your judgement somewhat. Its like reading an opinion from mark J on the Tories, you know damn well there will be no objectivity in his thoughts and reasoning's. It will be nothing other than hate and bile.
  25. Read my previous posts and then read what you've just written. Maybe have someone read them for you? But then think carefully about how little sense your comments make.
