  1. Handy those little Granberg's eh? Did you nee to remove much material off the Chain?
  2. Ah bugger so he was. I was on my phone at the time and can see it more clearly on my Laptop.
  3. About the WDU? Let me know how it goes. Im interested.
  4. No, every picture Ive ever posted has been ripped off of the net...... I should clarify that Ive never found a nail when using my Bandsaw Mill. Ive found plenty when Alaskan Milling. But since Dave was Milling with his Bandsaw I replied to his post in context. Hitting a nail with a Chain is annoying but rectifiable. I'l assume it kills your Bandsaw Blade. Bit of a difference I think.
  5. Nice looking set up I think? Perfect for someone who does this for a Hobby like myself. Id assume you could market Kiln Dried Slabs more easily too? Complete package with drying chamber (WDK) and wood drying unit (WDU) | Wood Drying | More Products | LOGOSOL WWW.LOGOSOL.CO.UK <p>Logosol’s drying chamber is a smart solution with an insulated inner tent and a protective outer tent that are...
  6. How frustrating! Im yet to find any nails yet thankfully. Left an interesting stain in the wood if nothing else?
  7. How much is the fine if you take your family for a walk in the forest? Could be a price worth paying? I doubt the Police will be bothered these days considering the easing we're seeing in Scotland and England in the next few days, and if everyone else in your area is out why not join them?
  8. I bet you believe that too.
  9. I agree, but might be handy just to confirm 100%. If its Crooked I think Id be inclined to do as the Op says and submerge in water till fully soaked (if thats possible) and re-weight it. Especially if time is not a constraint.
  10. This is my thinking as well.
  11. This might help to clarify. Im still not 100% which way the Slab is cupped.
  12. Supposedly all 33,000 members here will be outta a job within 10 years and replaced by robots. Simples I guess?
  13. What technology?
  14. Most jobs will be automated in a decade or so? Don't be so melodramatic. That is simply not going to happen.
  15. The X27 is fine of the logs are fresh and not very knotty. But then I find the handle to long for easy logs. The Head is to light for anything Gnarly, or at least you're wasting a lot of time and energy blow after blow. I think the X25, which has the same head weight as the X27 would be better suited, at least for myself anyway. The distance you need to be away from the log for using the X27 for regular splitting is frustrating. I use a Husky S1600 for that, but its a bit short. So I feel the X25 would be the Sweet Spot for me.
  16. Well with that view I'm glad you realise you'd be terrible. No it certainly would not be nice for everyone to have that option. Dont work but can? Then dont eat. Simple as.
  17. Ive only ever used a Solid nosed 48" Duramatic Bar, tension has never been an issue. Couple of passes and a wee adjustment, nothing more. Obviously a new chain will stretch regardless. I use/used a 3/8" Low Pro bar with my 36" Mill, no better or worse for tension than the Solid Nosed Duromatic.
  18. No bother milling this lumpy Elm with a Winch. Super smooth cuts too. Thought it would be full of burr but unfortunately not.
  19. I guess thats a matter of opinion. I have no issue using a winch with gnarly logs, just takes some forethought. As I said, light pressure on the winch takes the majority of the workload off of your back and arms. You still have full feedback and control, you're working smart, not hard. But each to their own.
  20. To add to that list Id also add uneven force applied to the mill itself. Its all to easy to start to lift the front or rear of the mill. Which will cause the chain to want to dig in or raise int eh cut depending on how you're leaning on the Mill. Then you also have the fact you have the weight of the saw hanging off of one end as well that needs somewhat compensated for, especially with such a little mill as that. I find it good practice to be constantly checking all your angles when Milling. Watching for lift at the front and rear. Its also all to easy to start laterally 'sawing' with the Alaskan instead of a nice longitudinal cut. You'll get through the log quicker but you'll end up with a crappy finish. Another option for sharpening is a Granberg Precision grinder. You can get them in the UK as well. its Bar Mounted and a life saver in the field if you hit metal. I use it in conjunction with a set of verniers to ensure the teeth are the same length each side. It also takes the rakers down. https://granberg.com/product/g1012xt-precision-grinder-12v/?v=c2f3f489a005
  21. Why would you run the Saw with anything other then full throttle? The only time Im not full chat is at the start and end of the cut. Both instances dont need the Winch anyway. I find you need to apply just a gentle pressure on the winch, just enough to keep the mill engaged in the cut. As the Chain starts to blunten then you need to add more force but obviously keeping the applied force low enough so as not to start tilting the Mill. Your back will thank you in the long run if you manage to get the hang of correctly utilising a Winch.
  22. Ah yeh, I get ya now. I quite agree. Its a sad reflection on how society is today. Its worth keeping in mind there numerous cases of abuse that children faced when being sent away for WW2, not just sexual but used as slaves to work the farms etc. Not everyone had an idyllic time. Then we have all the covenants full of young girls getting abused and obviously boys as well in orphanages. Its not a modern occurrence, it was just hidden and shameful before. But the cost of being more open about sexual abuse is we're ready to linch anyone who has the finger pointed at them and that's their life ruined after than. (assuming they where innocent of course) Its the same with sexual harassment in the workplace. It absolutely should not be tolerated but things have gone to far now. You can laugh and joke with a few lads and lassies during the day and the girl can decide at a later date that what was joked about was harassment and put an official complaint in. 100% you'll be hauled over the coals. Work now seems to have an invisible barrier up now. Ive had a couple of girls sit on my lap off-shore. As much as I enjoyed it I was bricking myself that it could come back to haunt me. If a girl wants to hug, or kiss cheeks, or make sexual jokes I dont get involved anymore, just in case. And we have a couple of stunners on our crew as well. Great for getting priority Crane Lifts.
  23. Agreed, the Chinese numbers are known beyond doubt to be completely fabricated and no longer worth giving China the satisfaction of including them. Its a small slap in the face for them, and we need to issue a lot more of those.
  24. I’m not sure what you’re driving at?
