  1. It’s a very very big tree. And you’ve had your 30” bar replaced with a 12”. 😁
  2. Imagine going from 12 reports to write out a week to 30. Or maybe this is easier to understand; instead of 12 trees you need to go “chop chop” it’s now 30 in the same time period. 🤣
  3. The death sentence in the US is only in a few states though, right? And then they don’t seem to get necked for something like 20 years. These days the annual number of death sentences carried out is significantly under 50. Out of a nation of over 330 million and a nation with one of the highest incarcerations in the world it’s hardly a deterrent. But I agree with what you’ve posted.
  4. That’s what I was thinking! Why are they getting a free pass here? Same with a lot of crimes if they knew they where gonna get their hands or head cut off there would be a significant drop in the number of perpetrators.
  5. You also have to be intelligent to be a GP.
  6. I quite fancy this Rock Grinder. I have so much stumps in the garden to grind out that it will soon pay for itself. Its either that or find an old Rayco Super Junior for about the same price.
  7. Hey, It rides on pretty much any Band sawmill. Its the LM410. But since you have the 130max you'd need the slightly wider LM410 XL, same cutter width, its just the body that accommodates the wider track you have. To be honest Ive used it for a couple of days and thats it. Ive made some Demo Logs to take pictures of and get a feel for the machine. Ive used it more as a 24" Planer to be honest. Planed some 4m long Beech Slabs and it did an amazing job. I'll be using it in anger next year as Ive got 50t of Norway Spruce to mill into 6" Beams, then I'll let them dry a little before moulding them with the LM410.
  8. Its a skill Id love to learn too. IF you find someone perhaps I can help and learn as well. Ive actually bought a machine to produce Log Cabin D-Profile Logs. Kinda cheating I know.
  9. No pictures though. He’s still looking for his camera.
  10. I’m with them as well. I keep forgetting I am and about once a year I’ll do the same as you. Splurge on a big order. Normally heavy hitting Reds for both the missus and I.
  11. I think I’ve almost wept three times when I read what happened to him. I’ve been feeling quite sad and angry thinking about it too. Can’t get it out of my head. I think it’s partially from having two wee ones and also being away from them for a coupe of weeks now. I hope they both get shown plenty of love in Jail.
  12. At least Eleven of the blighters! Some on the rental cottages next door. 😬 Will make nice sawlogs though.
  13. We’ve been without power for a few days intermittently since the Storm. Cozy house, missus still cooking and hot water. Best investment I’ve ever made.
  14. I'll dig out his vids. I have a few days to kill off-shore waiting on job. I dont have a pic no, I was gonna get some to post here but she's since pulled the add as they are all gone. I love the smell of real creosote though. Got 40 liters sitting in the garage, lovely stuff.
  15. Very cool video! Very nice haul of timber as well. Is that you in the video? Any updates on the Greenhouse? Funnily enough the sleepers looked very much like that. I just assumed they'd be coated in creosote, perhaps they where not. Anyway, all sold now. Within a space of a day, and they had over 100. So perhaps they where untreated.
  16. Ive never cut into an old Sleeper before so I bow to those who have. But Im still curious to see if thats true with my own eyes. I get that something lighter like diesel could travel up the xylem (or whatever the correct word is) and contaminate the timber but creosote being so viscus Id imagine that it would not travel far. There is a very interesting article on whether to soak wood chunks for smoking on the BBQ or not. Although its over a much shorter time its a very good read. Especially if you like to cook on the BBQ. Myth: Soak Your Wood First AMAZINGRIBS.COM There is no need to soak wood before cooking with it. Water doesn't penetrate wood. That's why they make boats from it...
  17. Yes, most likely correct. Still, I'll try one out so I know myself and see whats what. Id be curious to see how deep creosote can penetrate.
  18. Was thinking diesel inside the water tank
  19. My plan was to cut to a depth the creosote did not penetrate and just have fresh timber. I think I'll try one anyway, just for sheets and giggles. Even if I killed a band per Sleeper it would be worth it I think. £22 for a 2.4m Sleeper. If I get clean wood in a 'Mantle' size Id cut the Sleeper in two and sell them for £150-£200 each. If I factor in a band either completely knackered (£35) or a sharpen (£10) then Id still be quids in. Just musing the now.
  20. Thats a very good point.
  21. They are literally old railway sleepers that have been dry stored. I seem to have a very high demand for Mantles just now. But I need them somewhat dry, especially for the Stove Shop that I'll be supplying. Luckily Ive (hopefully) scored some Oak Beams (4.8m x 8" x 4" ) from an old warehouse that I can cut to size and hopefully make nice dry mantles from. But once they are gone I'll be a few years away from being able to supply seasoned mantles. So Im looking at alternatives. I thought the Sleepers would be a long shot so I think I'll just forget that idea. Thanks guys.
  22. Anyone attempted to re-saw old oak sleepers that have been creosoted? They are 10” x 4-5”. If I could get a 8” x 3-4” beam out of them I’d be happy.
  23. Ok. If you say so.
  24. Shame they where left so late.
  25. That’s firewood quality?
