  1. No pictures though. He’s still looking for his camera.
  2. I’m with them as well. I keep forgetting I am and about once a year I’ll do the same as you. Splurge on a big order. Normally heavy hitting Reds for both the missus and I.
  3. I think I’ve almost wept three times when I read what happened to him. I’ve been feeling quite sad and angry thinking about it too. Can’t get it out of my head. I think it’s partially from having two wee ones and also being away from them for a coupe of weeks now. I hope they both get shown plenty of love in Jail.
  4. At least Eleven of the blighters! Some on the rental cottages next door. 😬 Will make nice sawlogs though.
  5. We’ve been without power for a few days intermittently since the Storm. Cozy house, missus still cooking and hot water. Best investment I’ve ever made.
  6. I'll dig out his vids. I have a few days to kill off-shore waiting on job. I dont have a pic no, I was gonna get some to post here but she's since pulled the add as they are all gone. I love the smell of real creosote though. Got 40 liters sitting in the garage, lovely stuff.
  7. Very cool video! Very nice haul of timber as well. Is that you in the video? Any updates on the Greenhouse? Funnily enough the sleepers looked very much like that. I just assumed they'd be coated in creosote, perhaps they where not. Anyway, all sold now. Within a space of a day, and they had over 100. So perhaps they where untreated.
  8. Ive never cut into an old Sleeper before so I bow to those who have. But Im still curious to see if thats true with my own eyes. I get that something lighter like diesel could travel up the xylem (or whatever the correct word is) and contaminate the timber but creosote being so viscus Id imagine that it would not travel far. There is a very interesting article on whether to soak wood chunks for smoking on the BBQ or not. Although its over a much shorter time its a very good read. Especially if you like to cook on the BBQ. Myth: Soak Your Wood First AMAZINGRIBS.COM There is no need to soak wood before cooking with it. Water doesn't penetrate wood. That's why they make boats from it...
  9. Yes, most likely correct. Still, I'll try one out so I know myself and see whats what. Id be curious to see how deep creosote can penetrate.
  10. Was thinking diesel inside the water tank
  11. My plan was to cut to a depth the creosote did not penetrate and just have fresh timber. I think I'll try one anyway, just for sheets and giggles. Even if I killed a band per Sleeper it would be worth it I think. £22 for a 2.4m Sleeper. If I get clean wood in a 'Mantle' size Id cut the Sleeper in two and sell them for £150-£200 each. If I factor in a band either completely knackered (£35) or a sharpen (£10) then Id still be quids in. Just musing the now.
  12. They are literally old railway sleepers that have been dry stored. I seem to have a very high demand for Mantles just now. But I need them somewhat dry, especially for the Stove Shop that I'll be supplying. Luckily Ive (hopefully) scored some Oak Beams (4.8m x 8" x 4" ) from an old warehouse that I can cut to size and hopefully make nice dry mantles from. But once they are gone I'll be a few years away from being able to supply seasoned mantles. So Im looking at alternatives. I thought the Sleepers would be a long shot so I think I'll just forget that idea. Thanks guys.
  13. Anyone attempted to re-saw old oak sleepers that have been creosoted? They are 10” x 4-5”. If I could get a 8” x 3-4” beam out of them I’d be happy.
  14. You’re creating a Strawman Argument, simple as that. To claim those who are vehemently against a sport that gets its kicks from ripping an animal to pieces are only doing so out of jealousy or because in your opinion they are not in a position to join in is about as asinine as it gets. You’re exposing your own ignorance and your posts insult everyone who has the misfortune to read them.
  15. Yet more mealy nonsense from yourself.
  16. I sell sheet loads of 'Mantles' through Facebook market place. Got two going out today in fact. Give away prices since he's taking two. £125 each for 1.2m x 150mm x 100mm. I started a small FB page for the Milling, lots of enquiries through that too.
  17. Help the Farming community by providing them employment in carrying out the servitudal roles needed by the Gentry so the farmers can continue to put food on their plates.
  18. Ah ok. Too far to make economical I think.
  19. Where are you based? Ive taken down a few Cherry Trees in my garden lately and the latest Storm has taken down a few more.
