  1. I did wonder that myself. He seems to think its work more to someone who will carve it than milling it though. Just offering to slab it if thats what the buyer wants. I'll assume at a further cost.
  2. Really? Well when you next see a good clean 880 for £500 let me know! I’ll buy it.
  3. Yip, I think £500 as well. Brave of you to admit that here though. [emoji16]
  4. Nah, I’ll either get the 881 or a copycat G880. No middle ground. [emoji16]
  5. I'll most likely stick with Stihl and Makita to be honest. But I do like to put the cat amongst the pigeons. Maybe next year if I get some more OT I'll maybe even treat myself to a new 881, so I can feel more in the club. But Id sorely like to get the copycat 880 and prove the naysayers wrong. Its just the way Im built. Regarding the Poll, I think it might surprise you to be honest. Im not saying there will be loads of Chinese saws, but there's deffo a few here. And at no point would I make a few burner accounts and add numbers to the Chinese Saws side of the Poll.
  6. Me second. ?Stihl and Makita. Till last year it’s been Stihl since I was 16 because my old man is a Husky Man it it’s in my nature to go against the flow. Maybe ask Big J to help you out making a poll if you’re serious? Polls have to be anonymous so the folks who have ‘dangerous’ Chinese saws don’t feel like they’ll be shat on by the Saw Snobs. ?
  7. I believe it’s an open forum for all disciplines and skill levels? No one that you know of uses these saws on here. That’s a big difference. Unless you’ve conducted a poll I missed?
  8. Good points. No, I dont know if its a fact and am going on face value only. Could well be 10,000 units or individual items now that you mention it. Regarding the G660 though, it does seem to be a huge seller for them. Every day there is posts from new guys firing theirs up for the first time or building a new one. They have dealers and re-sellers in the US, Canada and the UK who have and see to shift an awful lot of stock. But again, I do not have one. Just seen their saws pop up more and more frequently on FB milling pages. Folk getting 2-3 years milling out of them before needing fixed. Two to Three years solid Milling from a saw that costs £250? If its not your main source of income thats a game changer for a lot of folk who either just want to start out or do so as a hobby. I'll most likely get the 880 when it comes out. Purely to resaw 5 Ash Slabs. If it lasts the whole day and costs me £500 its paid for itself that day. If its anything like the reliability Im seeing from the owners of the G660 on FB and other US Milling forums and it lasts 1,2 or even 3 years its very cheap Milling.
  9. Right....Cheers.
  10. Well its definitely the time of year for wee leaves.
  11. My point was not all Stihl copies are made of cheese. And being made in China does not mean they are automaticly junk.
  12. Ah ok cool. Thanks.
  13. Thats true. It would not go to waste. I know a chainsaw carver. He could make me a toadstool. For some reason he sells them like hot cakes.
  14. No, most likely not. But its supposedly Bone dry, so was an attraction in that regard. The seller has a Mill so I'd assume knows a bit about wood. Id take a drive over and throw it in the back of the Jeep for £50 and a nice drive over the hills and maybe make a new contact. But I'll not bother for £100.
  15. What a shame. Big big ball though! Surely it was worth milling anyway?
  16. US$ 265 - 92cc Holzfforma® Blue Thunder G660 Gasoline Chain Saw Power Head Without Guide Bar and Chain Top Quality By Farmertec All parts are compatible with MS660 066 Chainsaw - www.farmertec.com WWW.FARMERTEC.COM 92cc Holzfforma® Blue Thunder G660 Gasoline Chain Saw Power Head Without Guide Bar and Chain Top Quality By... They've sold over 10,000 of the G660 now. Thats mad. If they where even remotely as bad as being made out Im sure it would be well know. I wonder if Stihl has a done a comparison with this saw or thought better of it as it works as well as their own?
  17. Each to their own. Like I say dont have one. Im just making a point that lumping every saw made in China together is inherently wrong. Ive not looked into the legalities of the Farmtec saws.
  18. Must be made of cheese then.
  19. Yeh, being made in China is not really a valid argument when Stihl makes some of their saws there. And lets not forget your iphone is made there to. Its all down to quality control and materials used. Some very nasty copies made in China, or Pakistan, or where ever are made out of cheese and die just looking for them. It seems like Farmtec are perhaps a different class? They have a huge following in the US and there is dealers in the US, Canada and the UK.
  20. Of course the irony being Stihl make a lot of their saws in China.
  21. The thing is they do seem to be decent saws. If you look on the farmtecs FB pages users have had them for years and used and abused them and they do seem to hold up. There will always be Saw Snobs in this game but if these Farmtec saws are as good as the users seem to indicate then why not? If/when something does break replace it with a genuine component. Ive not got one and I cant see me getting one either, Id sooner buy a good second hand Stihl saw, but I can see why there is a market for these saws and if your livelyhood does not depend on it then why not?
  22. Naked of course. Maybe a few choice branches or chainsaws to hide peoples modesty. ?
  23. A charity calendar? You could be responsible for maintaining the thread and selecting the pictures for each month. I see you already have a few members posting their suggestions already.
  24. Ive never used or seen one of these saws in action other than joining some pages on FB and they seem to have an almost cult following now. Reviews seem to really good. Their warranty on parts seems to be great as well. Every single genuine Stihl part will swap right over. The Chinese sure know how to reverse engineer thats for sure. With the patents expiring on a lot of Saws what they are doing is not even illegal anymore. A lot of guys seem to be swapping out the standard oiler with a Stihl HO one and a few other components as well. Many are using the G660 as a Milling saw and have a couple of years hard use on them. They are supposedly bringing out a G880 this month, I'll be watching that with interest. Not sure if its the same Chinese saw above though. 25. Yip, but I’m working away from home and it will have to wait till I get home. Plus my Brother-in-law is in the loft plumbing the new heating system and wanted me to wait with the insulation till when he was finished. Another 4 weeks and we’ll have it done.
