  1. unless you want a visibly 'timber' building for some reason I wouldnt bother with timber frame at all. Waaaaaay cheaper to build a normal brick and block house with none of the hassle. Inside you can beam away if you like. The main advantage of timber frame is 'supposed' rapid construction. Yes the frame goes up and is levelled on packers fast BUT it then sits and waits to be bricked up and roofed. Unless you have all the trades ready to smash it out in 4 weeks tops then you are just throwing money away on a frame no one will see.
  2. builders merchants are the same. ton bags of sand or ballest etc are rarely more than 800kg. If you can pull the straps to meet in the middle its not full. you should just be able to bend them over and thats it.
  3. there is a video doing the rounds, one of those genie cherry pickers is being driven with the basket up and it drops abut a foot into a hole. The result being the 2 occupants are ejected out the basket. Fortunately they were wearing a harness and didn't fall and die. They did smash into the side of it though. Made me think twice.
  4. Are you cladding the external walls or bricking it up ?
  5. mine is same as the one in the video 2 sets of aux lines on the dipper
  6. yeah my 030-4 has the same. Kubota are leading the way for sure.
  7. the property owner should sue the council for the lost value in his home due to the councils dictat that he must keep certain trees on his own land.
  8. ah right, yes no need for that. if they come a knockin you have to stump them up, electronic or hard copy whichever and they best match the data feed !!! I went paperless couple years ago and just scan and attach everything in clearbooks. Added bonus I never have to visit the accountant he has his own login ! HMRC has more powers than the rozzers.
  9. yes exactly this has every purchase and every sale listed. Thats how the vat is worked out.
  10. so your not reclaiming VAT on them then ?
  11. they defo get it all from the online bookeeping apps. Same with CIS but with extra step of having to verify subbies so the data feed is correct and no typo's in company names etc.
  12. if only. would build houses on stilts and pay no tax! https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/construction-industry-scheme-cis-340/construction-industry-scheme-a-guide-for-contractors-and-subcontractors-cis-340#appb
  13. i use clear books and you can see them all on the vat return before you click to submit to HMRC https://www.crunch.co.uk/knowledge/tax/mtd-webinar/
  14. they need all your purchase invoices and sales invoices for each quarter as well - electronically. all the online books send them via the portal with the vat return. This way they big computer at HMRC crunches the numbers and if you claimed a purchase invoice for £1000 from company ABC and on ABC's upload there is no corresponding invoice for £1000 they are going to come and bend you over.
  15. "site manager" - there u go you are working for a builder mate and you know it.
  16. they are just applying the law, you should have gave them your UTR and NI number and registered for CIS then it would have been 20%. As i already said they have no say in it. Bit poor comms though, at least you will be registered for the next one.
  17. makes no difference they just don't pay any tax! Just register for CIS and you will be on 20%.
  18. letter detailing all the faults (in case you need it in court). tell him via phone to fu** himself. £1000 for 2 days work. Having a laugh after messing you about for 3 months. I'd have paid him £300 150/day and not a penny more. so much scum 'tradesman' about.
  19. you are probably too late to re-invoice as CIS has to be paid by the 5th on the following month.
  20. They dont have a choice and are breaking the Law if they DONT stop the CIS. You havent actually lost anything as its tax you will be paying anyway any surplus HMRC will return.
  21. we use the dewalt 54v one for fencing/roofing. You can rapid charge the 54v battery faster than once can be emptied. Great bit of kit. No smoke/noise/smell.
  22. cant pay the secretary divvies though !
  23. shares can be allocated to other family members as well so they can receive a dividend. Especially if the mrs doesnt work.
  24. register for VAT, can reclaim a fair few years worth of purchases on your first return. Little machines do hold their money well mind so you may not lose as much as you think. Losses are tax deductable ..
  25. agree. Mick is more PC
