  1. Hi Ian, they look fantastic. Are you able to work on a vertical surface on a wooden gate in situ? I'd like to have our house name 'engraved' into the gate. I suppose it could be taken off its hinges and laid flat. Can you pm me a price? I'm GL18 so hopefully not too far. Sent from my X5pro using Tapatalk
  2. Any pictures of your set up please?
  3. Eh? 70? But I always thought 5 x 12 was 60. Maybe the files are counted via an Arborists (bakers?) dozen..........
  4. But what s causing it to appear? It's only on he arbtalk site I get it. Sent from my X5pro using Tapatalk
  5. Yes, I get this as well, but not all of the time. Like you, I've also run all sorts of scans (I'm ex-IT so know a bit of stuff!) and have only just now had another one pop up whilst browsing this thread. Damn annoying!
  6. Whilst strictly not a video (as it's a GIF) but has this been posted yet?
  7. Back on again but now at £25 +P&P Husqvarna Pulse Engine Tachometer PET-302R | eBay
  8. Where might someone find a Lawnflite vertical for £330 plus vat please? I need something a bit bigger (power wise) than the 4 / 5 ton horizontal splitter I currently use.
  9. More info on what some others are using here: http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/firewood-forum/104225-cheapo-moisture-meters.html As per that link, I use an unbranded but Stihl equivalent EM4806 which is very similar to yours.
  10. Item 291954428821? The seller is ringing alarm bells for me! Whilst I appreciate we all have to start somewhere, his feedback is 3 with 4 purchases, 3 of which are from the same seller and the fourth is from an 'associated' seller (all are music related). He is now selling 2 big ticket items and thus without any company information, there is little security when buying from a distance unless it is strictly cash on collection. Of note, there is a Country Wide Grounds Maintenance company in Gloucester (Country Wide Grounds Maintenence, Gloucester - Gardeners in Gloucester - Reviews, Phone Number & Photos) but no way of knowing if they are one and the same. Anyone else done any digging? I bought a second (third/fourth/fifth) hand Entec from Brightwells Auctions in Hereford earlier this year for not very much money and they have 5 chippers in Decembers auction - might be worth a trip up from Devon? http://www.brightwells.com/plant-machinery-hgv/auctions/december-plant-machinery-hgv/catalogue/
  11. Only for home use, I have one of these Damp Moisture Meter Tester Wood Plaster Logs Non Genuine & Genuine STIHL | eBay which I believe is the same internals as these Stihl Wood Moisture Meter Digital Damp Tester Detector Wood Timber "New Design" | eBay Seems to be ok for my 'home' use but if I was processing wood to sell, I'd want something with a bit more credibility (ie calibration) behind it.
  12. Without wishing to derail the OP's thread, I have 4 felled (last winter) Silver Birch trees currently lying on the ground. They are a bit gnarly on the bark in places but is the wood worth planking/milling or should I just chop and split it for my biomass boiler?
  13. I have an Entec 25 (I think!) - takes 6" if that helps. It is an ex-hire one and the engine seems to have been replaced at some point and it now has a Honda GX620 fitted which powers it fine. Might be an option for you?
  14. an Ebay-er called cricketbits was selling this back in May this year (I asked a few questions but didn't bid). His 'sale' is not showing in his history so either no feedback was left or is was never a genuine sale (more likely!) The mesag I received back included: I've also found an email from the 'seller' with some additional photos! Yell if you want them!
  15. Ha ha ha - when's it being installed! Good one! Sadly, when I finish building (read - make watertight) the garage. I'm only about 6 bricks off the floor at the moment, so it could be this side of Christmas if I get my finger out! Yes, it will need a 2000L (yes, two thousand litre) water store, a 300l expansion vessel and will look something like this:
  16. I'm in the process of building a new double garage to house an SHT TDA 25 and have already committed to the purchase of the boiler but I would also be interested in peoples first hand views, both positive and negative.
  17. I picked one up as well and I've had a quick play with it, sharpening about 5 old and in-use chains. It seems I have to reset the depth and width for each side of the chain. So my chain teeth are now not the same width for the left cut and the right cut as each time I reset the width, it will vary. All of the left teeth are the same width and all of the right teeth are the same width but they are not necessarily identical. Anyone else find this? By width I mean the length of the top of the tooth as you look vertically down onto the chain as fitted into the guide (or bar).
  18. Without wishing to derail the OP's thread, any recommendations for portable millers in the GL18 (Gloucester/Newent) area? I have some Oak, Fir, Spruce and Poplar that I think is 'too good' for firewood and I would like to get some planks, beams, lengths etc from it for use in and around the house/garden/garage/shed etc. As it currently stands (or lays on the ground!) it is not 'drive side' and it will require moving from where it is in the garden to where it can be milled. I don't think a little digger I have access to (1.5T) is man enough for the task though!
  19. I bought a second (third/fourth/fifth) hand mini digger from an HGV auction last autumn. AS you are Bath based, Hereford isn't too far from you so have you looked at Brightwells Auctions? Brightwells Plant, Machinery & HGV | Welcome Next auction is this Friday. As with any second hand sale, make sure you do your homework on the models you are looking at, ensure you get there early enough to register and then to check out the machine fully, exercise all controls to the max travel they offer, and look for any leaks, drips or other tell tale marks. You've already identified that the hammer price isn't the total cost price - I made a little table up in £100 increments showing hammer price to total sales price so I could keep an eye on the final price whilst bidding. I'm sure my digger (1.5T) is probably more worn out than I'd have liked but as I'm only a 'home' user and don't need it to earn its keep, I can live with slightly 'loose' pins and bearings etc. Check condition of the tracks - what buckets it comes with, does it have a quick hitch etc. Extra buckets are relatively cheap but if you can avoid that expense from the outset, it is always helpful.
  20. Hi, I wasn't sure which forum to post this in but decided this was probably the best. I'm not a professional Arborist, just a homeowner with some woodland. We recently bought our property and have been doing some tree clearing from the garden and now have 3 large English Oak trees (the 2 largest are probably 3-4' diameter), one American oak (smaller) and an Ash tree available. We also have a large Poplar, a Spruce and a Douglas Fir but we've been advised there is little money in this wood (cost to remove would be its value) so we'll probably just chop it up for firewood (yes, a lot of firewood!). We are in Gloucestershire but close to the Herefordshire border. All of the trees are prepped ready for felling (ie limbs removed) but we have already arranged for them to be felled when we are ready. I'd appreciate any advice as to who might be best to contact ref selling the wood.
  21. Thanks! I'll try to drop them a call tomorrow (Tuesday)
  22. Hi, I've just become the proud owner of a 'previously enjoyed' (ie second hand!) Entec chipper The serial number is CH25PH77030297 but it looks like the original engine has been replaced as it is now fitted with a Honda V Twin 20HP engine which looks almost new! I have lots of questions I'm afraid but would be grateful for any assistance you can give or pointers as to where I should look. It all works fine, including the A/S mech, roller fwd/reverse buttons and stop bar but I need to get the blades and rollers sharpened as they are not at their best. Are the rollers meant to have 'sharp' edges as they are currently a bit rounded and don't always pull in as I think they should. I know the cutter blades are held on with TX50 and I think the roller blades are held on with an 8mm hex, but are there any hints and tips as to how to get them undone as they are all stuck fast! I've given then a spray with WD40 and will try again next weekend. Is there a user/maintenance manual you can link me to please? I have found the TW125 manual for Feb13 and Sep15 but I think my machine is a bit older than that! and thus might be slightly different I'm also missing the start/stop key but as I can use a screwdriver, there doesn't seem much point in getting a replacement one. The hydraulic tank breather also can't be undone - it just spins. Do I have to take off the filler/filter assembly and try to get a spanner on to the underside? What's the tank quantity and is it just 'normal' hydraulic fluid? ISO 46? It seems the Honda engine hasn't had an oil/filter change for at least 300 hours, so that's high on my list of jobs to do. The Kohler rev/run time clock is around 1450 hrs - is this low/normal/high for a machine of its age? Sorry for a bombardment of questions, any assistance gratefully received.
  23. Serial number starts H25PH so I'm assuming it is the 25Hp petrol hydraulic. Yes to buying with my eyes wide open - buyer beware at auction!
  24. Yup, I'm quite handy with a spanner or two - currently restoring to use 2 old rotavators (1 I owned and broke, 1 'new' to me circa 1960 vintage) and I have ~ 8 petrol lawnmowers in various states, 2 ride on, 1 sit on and a few push/powered etc! Maybe I ought to get rid of some???
  25. Thanks Pete, yes it's at Brightwells - there banner is in the background on one photo!
