  1. its going to be a simple set up as I can find no traditional games for Norfolk so I guess the design is open to my imagination / plagiarism.
  2. That was the next question..... What wood is best, they will take a bashing at the pub?
  3. Yes I have got some hole saws of differing diameter that I ground the teeth off and then raised a burr for finishing, guess I will have to do it the "proper way" until I sort a gadget.......
  4. That's a nice offer thank you, long drive from North Norfolk though, I think I feel a Christmas present:laugh1: request coming on.....
  5. On my last lathe I had a natty little gadget that allowed me to turn perfect spheres, now on the VB36 I am going to have to use "skill". Any advice as I wish to make some balls for a local pub skittle game? Steve over to you for advice........
  6. Welcome on board Pete, you will find this one of the most interesting forums about and very well supported. It great to understand what these guys go through to get our raw materials, good contacts and very helpful. Stuart
  7. Chicken, sweet corn and mayo in a crusty white......
  8. Same for me, am happy to convert boards to what ever I need, mostly I buy in the round and do the work myself, for hollow forms and bowls it is just a quick wiz with the chainsaw and off you go. However some turners do want perfectly round, seasoned labeled blanks, for those they can go to the shop and pay a premium.....
  9. A quick email to the local woodturning club will usually catch a few who would be prepared to pay, we have to get the timber somewhere and I personally like the provenance of getting timber locally rather than off the internet. Also I know the man who done the work is getting the money rather than a shop. You will get more for a turning blank than firewood that's for sure. Stuart
  10. Had a similar problem on my good ladies Fabia 30,000 ago, mechanic ground the lip on the edges £30 for the two fronts and still going fine.
  11. If you have a free supply of timber just practice and enjoy it, the plank you produced would be a good house sign, you already have the router, just a simple template and bush and your away....... S.
  12. Let me know when its ready Steve
  13. Thanks for all the help and suggestions. Stuart
  14. A large estate/country park up this way has painted all their equipment in a day-glow pink, whilst it looks a little odd, they have yet to have anything taken, where previously it was a regular occurrence. Unorthodox but effective methinks....... I still prefer 32g of number 6 shot though ...........
  15. Anyone know of a supplier of dried willow stems of around 5mm diameter? I use them as stems for wooden flowers. My local supplier is no more....
  16. Danny, I think you will be looking at a good sized industrial unit to cover your needs, most light industrial stuff will be too small and certainly not rated for continuous use. I think a good second hand unit like a wadkin or similar but I think you may struggle to get a combination machine within your budget. Stuart
  17. The "Logster lite" has anyone any thoughts on this mill. Bear in mind it is for occasional personal use to convert timber for turning or rustic furniture and personal use, not for professional or profititable output.. S.
  18. North Norfolk....... Right on the Broads..... Bootiful. lol:biggrin:
  19. Nice, but a tad above what I need.......
  20. Thanks for the replies, Alaskan looks the way to go methinks as it is purely for my own use to mill timber for turning blanks, and to use planks for furniture etc. again my thanks. Now to get this one past the little lady............
  21. Having been looking through what can be achieved with a chainsaw mill I am very impressed and feel it is something I could make good use of and expand my horizons. So, what, how, and more importantly what not to get or do. This will be for home use only and will be limited by the size of butts I can manhandle myself. Your advice would be much appreciated please. Stu
  22. Yes sure looks like a rest for a Hamlet deep hollower or similar, would stop the downward force but you would still suffer twisting torque. Use carefully if you are not familiar especially when overhanging the rest by a few inches........
  23. What's it fitted to Steve?
  24. Booked a last minute deal myself, flying from Luton on the 9th for first trip to Malta, taking the fishing rods as heard the sport is pretty good of the jetties and rocks, weather looks good although the start of the wet season, got to be better than the Norfolk broads in a wet September though. Good timing this post, thanks......
  25. Such an interesting piece I think something simple, wall plaque, tea light holding table center piece, or if it was me I would turn some contrasting mushrooms and fungi type shapes, a little moss, mount them sympathetically and leave it at that. I turned a small bowl out of a similar looking piece last year, it came up nice, but was still just a small bowl.
