  1. Wet and windy on the Broads today. Normal for Norfolk this year!!!!!
  2. I'm still looking for a small mill (20") of any make, some one must have one they no longer use? S.
  3. May sound daft but try Avon Skin so soft, bloody brilliant, I use it all the time on the Broads. Keeps your rufty tufty skin in good nick to, and good for beards. Google it, has hundreds of other uses.
  4. Well to restart an old thread I ordered Tuesday lunchtime a Timberpro 20" 60cc saw with Oregon chain and bar, it was delivered the following morning at 10am. Two year warranty and offer to replace the saw if it cant be fixed. Ok so I have to pay the postage £6. Now for under £100 I have a 20" saw which if the reviews of the warranty are accurate will last two years minimum. Yes it is a Chinese build, yes the plastics are thin, but for a hobby user, and wannabe miller this is a cheap viable option. Assembled and oiled it up, the adjuster is a little rough but it fired second pull, I have run it a while to bed in and adjusted the chain, goes a goodun!! Change from a 100 beer tokens got to be worth a try. Time will tell on the saw but the company, and customer service were excellent. They have there place, would I earn my living with it... No of course not but for what I need I cant justify a pro saw. Ducks and awaits torrent of saw snob comments. lol.
  5. Good first attempt, I always start between centers to find the balance point of the wood, then turn one end (the bottom) flat for faceplate fixing (chisel off the nub left by the center) or a glue block, never had one part company (yet) perhaps the wrong size screws to suit the wood, as for the chuck a good dovetailed tenon or recess will hold, my biggest so far was 24" diameter on a recess. Keep practicing, and most of all have fun. S.
  6. So, this simple mod can increase saw power. Is it worth doing on all saws?
  7. https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwjhpIq_nqzNAhUH2hoKHZpGDbIQtwIIQDAA&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dh2CGslzGdB4&usg=AFQjCNGJ0iuaZ3-Bjs3P66G6Wb5oVSJA1g&bvm=bv.124272578,d.d2s Don't know if this is any good?
  8. Sorry to hi jack the thread Spud, but can you explain a "muffler mod" I hear about it a lot but don't know exactly what it is. Is it similar to exhaust tuning on IC engines for better breathing etc.? S.
  9. Unable to post a picture but for the last week I have heard a Bittern booming across Hickling Broad, first time I ever heard one.
  10. Looks good and less backache to. However think I will avoid the patio!
  11. Is there much cleaning up afterwards as I think this would be great on routed house signs, would a quick plane off leave a smooth surface on the larger area of a sign. S.
  12. Think I will have to have some lessons Steve.
  13. What or how is the best way to hold logs for milling with a chainsaw mill, being a single user I need a simple effective way to handle and hold small logs (up to 20") that I can use single handed. pictures would be good? Stuart
  14. Rob, that's great, stick my name on one as soon as they are available, ideal for my needs and usage. Ta Stuart
  15. Anyone know if these can still be purchased and if so where?
  16. Cut it into turning blanks and flog it off as is..........
  17. I use thin CA glue, but it will depend on how much you want to stabilize and how much glue you will need. The CA glue really does the job though.......
  18. So glad I am salaried couldn't stand the agg!!!!
  19. Spud, I think reading between the lines there is some good advice there..... and about the mixture. Lol. Yes its not the best make by any stretch but it does its job, I think I have leaned out the top end a little too much so will try the advice on the H screw. One day I will get me a "proper" saw then I can get it "Spudded".......
  20. Well I for one would like the mini mill, so if anyone has one gathering dust????
  21. Got me a little 16" Royal for preparing logs for turning. It is running fine and top revs when not under load, but, when I cut it bogs down, have I got it too lean at the top end? Just wanted to check the best way to get the right mixture when not under load to stop the bogging down. Apart from that for a real cheapo it runs and cuts fine.
