  2. Yes I now remember that the inside diameter cannot exceed the external circumference!! Took a while.
  3. The Deathly Hallows stand for Dumbledors wand:thumbup1:
  4. Got a commission for of all things two wand stands. Book matched some oak for the back board and a huge thanks to Mike Dempsey for the laser engraving. Hope it suits the customer.110cm x 55 cm to hang on bedroom wall with 7 Harry Potter wands on display.
  5. Cool. I cut mine very thin, is it chewy when thicker......

  8. And these guys keep logging it for firewood :001_tt2:
  9. Using standard chain the results are pretty good, any ways a ripping chain is half the price of the mill!!!
  10. The width is a benefit with the swept back wings just makes it easier and quicker when using the jig.
  11. And turners are stereotypically tight.
  12. Finished blanks:001_tongue:
  13. Mine runs at 1425 it's the Creusen slow speed from Axminster. Will try to get some pics tomorrow and of the tool edge straight off the wheel.
  14. Both were from Fleabay the mill via Rob D..... The saw is a Timberpro 62cc with 20" bar. As I said I paid the extra pennies for a decent bar and chain. My only fault with the saw is that on its side you only seem to be able to use 1/2 of the fuel capacity, it may be the pick up needs adjusting and it is quite thirsty. Can't fault the mill does what it says on the tin, castings are not the best but actually finished very well. Would like a longer saw and bigger mill eventually but for a cheaply Chinese copy, this'll do for now. Made its money today, but as said its hard graft for a desk jockey, hats off to the guys who do this for a living, also proper PPE trousers are hot!!! Nappy rash at 51 is no joke.
  15. Fleabay for a simply lathe, don't go for cheap tools though, again get second hand, you will only need a spindle gouge a parting tool and a roughing gouge to get you started, add others if you need them. Don't forget you will need a sharpening system of some sort.
  16. Simple slow speed grinder with white wheels and the Robert sorby jig. Fast simple and a great edge straight off the grinder, really only takes seconds ans easily repeatable.
  17. The above was a slab of oak which was hard as hell. Done about 40 blanks today at shop prices paid for the mill and saw on first outing. Result...
  18. Ok no laughing:blushing: Set up and used the Chinese saw and mill today. Not bad results for a sub £150 set which includes both saw and mill. I did go mad and pay an extra tenner for the Oregon bar and chain. Both worked well and even with the standard chain the finish was not too shabby. A big thanks to Steve (Shendy) for spending a few hours last weekend showing me the ropes. Got a pile of logs I can now mill into bowl blanks, oh yes on shorter logs an old length of laminate flooring makes a great stabbing rail...... Milling on a budget.
