  1. Glad you’re ok, lesson learned without serious consequence. Looking back where were the mistakes?
  2. Had the transit and some old climbing line pulling it.
  3. Pickup and Ifor would struggle with that telehandler every day mind.
  4. Today I will be mostly carrying bloody great lumps of wood.
  5. Ah, thought so. I only use a local free paper/magazine, don’t bother with google etc. Not cheap, but in a local area you build up a kind of momentum/recognisability. People always go on about ‘word of mouth’ which, of course is good, but it does lead to some awkward conversations about why you charged their friend €xxx and you’re charging them €yyy. You cannot beat the buzz of a new client saying yes to some decent work at a good price.
  6. What do you mean when you say ‘more traditional ways’?
  7. Apart from really big trees, anything bigger than a 70cc saw for firewood is overkill.
  8. Ken Bruce now, never been his biggest fan, but he was ok. Could see the way the wind was blowing and jumped ship. The only one I really like is Sara Cox these days. Interesting to see who they replace him with.
  9. It’s not really a cow is it? Nit picking I know
  10. Guy on another forum echoes your thoughts. Thinks the guy on the ground is lowering the basket otherwise the crane (the one holding the basket) would tip.
  11. Clearly you know more about this stuff than me so I’ll stop theorising.
  12. That would require the presence of an individual with competence and experience on that work site. If said person was there I would imagine he/she would have made their presence felt before the stuff hit the fan. I suspect the relief valve was letting oil through.
  13. Didn’t even break the wires. Guy walks out of the basket on the floor. I call that a success.
  14. Différent strokes I guess. I only like the 536 when I’m repollarding limes or other really soft wood. Using it on acacia, especially dead stuff, is painful.

  17. Bit niche I know. I’m sure you’ll like the saw Darnoc.
  18. I think I’ll just take it back (the battery) it’s not a light saw anyway for the power, this is too much.
  19. Apropos of nothing. I remember going into a arb shop over a decade ago, some kid kept calling me ‘mate’ I told him ‘I’m not your mate, I’m the client’ (I was at nearly 50 at the time) he got quite offended.
  20. HC wood turns to pulp very quickly. Get one of those X-ray things on it.
  21. Yes, I have the 536, was going to get the 540ix but none in stock.
  22. Funnily enough, after I wrote that I picked up the phone and checked at my local dealer and they’d had a delivery! So I popped out and got one, didn’t realise it was a 300amp one, which is big and heavy. We’ll see how it goes.
