  1. When you just know what's going to happen........ So yesterday I went pricing, one of the clients was difficult to understand on the phone, sounded very old, but I got the essentials and after a bit of asking in his village I found him (the two people I asked were related to him) As I thought he's old (86) living alone in his farmhouse, he has a decent size maiden lime in his rear courtyard, wants it topped, just the top half, no lower branches. Renders it a bit more complex as the pieces will have to pass through the lower canopy, no big deal, you get some odd requests here, you learn not to argue. It's over a couple of outbuildings so not crash'n'bash but simple enough. Mornings work, max. As usual he says leave all the stuff he'll clear it up to save money, I say to him "€400 but I will clear it up for nothing" after all I have to pay the guy who works for me and I own the chipper so it costs me nothing to clear it up. He explodes with rage, says it'll take half an hour, how can I justify charging such an amount! I clear up my papers, say my mercis and au revoirs and leave.
  2. I think it's a factor for sure, but the time it was off was a greater one imo. Peeps just got out of the habit of checking in every night after a few days of it being offline. Hopefully it'll start to come back.
  3. Fantastic fungi! The first time I came across them I thought they were octopus legs dropped by seagulls! Actually smell fishy if I recall.
  4. Nice collection Gary, thanks for posting.
  5. Moon landings, there's a subject. For me I can't see it being fake, all those people in the control room would have to be in on it, or fooled like the rest of us. Not one of them has broken cover. Also the Russians would surely have called BS on it if they thought it was fake.
  6. There's a Dutch guy on here, Wouter i think, who has had problems in the rain with his, I would imagine really biblical rain is going to get in somewhere along the line. I won't use mine in the rain anyway (husky equivalent mind)
  7. Nothing wasted there, good pic.
  8. Ok, good info, if your brothers both do it you've got an "in" physically I don't see any reason why not, what do your brothers think about the idea?
  9. Not too old, but probably knocking on the door. There's bound to be someone on in a bit saying they started at age 73 and now 30 years later they're as good as anyone (Timon probably) What do you hope to achieve? If you think that it's just day after day of swinging around trees to rapturous applause coming down at the end covered in sweat and sawdust to be ushered into the client's master bedroom to rut with the wife like a pair of seasoned up hyenas, pausing briefly on the way out to collect a grand in cash from the grateful husband, well, that's only two or three days a week. What do you do now? Why do you want to do this work? BTW. in answering these questions use of the word "passionate" like its Masterchef or something is banned
  10. Pretty good Jon, slow August as usual! I don't mind though, heat can be unpleasant.
  11. Why not turn it round? Get the tree work yourself and sub a climber in, more lucrative, and you're in charge.
  12. Agreed. As far as I can can see it's an advertisement, which is fine and all that, as long as it's posted as an advertisement.
  13. Dawn redwood perhaps? Is it rare? Well, it's not native, not common certainly
  14. Don't forget, first the guy had to run to eastwatch, then a raven had to fly the other way, Dany had to put on that "winter" coat then do the return journey. Good stuff though.
  15. Left handers are devil's spawn, here's how to deal with them!
  16. Could be a tropical hardwood or just about anything if it came in on the tide. No reason to think it's British (or even European)

It's a old saw anyway, give it a go and tell us what happens.
  18. You just sort of know after years and years of looking at trees.
  19. If you're planning on bringing the rest of it back to hedge height I'd give it a go. Young oaks are more resistant to heavy pruning than you might think. Was that the question?
