  1. I ran it earlier with the housing open and there was no sign of any oil squirting out of anywhere other than the filler cap. Will try again in the morning but I'm pretty sure it's water getting in and not air. The fluid that came out was like milk and there was a hell of a lot of it. I've checked over all the seals and they look fine. If I have to bleed the system and change the pump and filter then so be it but I need to make sure that I get all the water out. Do you know if I just let the whole lot drain for a day, would it be clear or do I need to get the air compressor out and blow the through the hoses? As I said to begin with I'm a little over my head with this but want to sort it (maybe a little for self satisfaction). Thanks for the replys Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  2. Yeah I think that's what he's on about. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  3. Not sure if the colour will fade or not but I'd say western red cedar for the species Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk

  5. Its not under warranty, I got it second hand 6 months or so back and it's a 2013 model. It's been a cracking machine otherwise. The machine runs ok but yesterday I noticed the leak (not to bad) then today I started her up to see if the oil was that milky colour and it pissed out of the filler cap after 20 seconds of running idle, only had it running 30 seconds and there was at least 3 litres of oil/water that pored out. I've got no idea how the water got in and have checked the hoses and seals and they all look fine. So it's either the pump like redwood said or possible the filler cap. What I don't want to do is get it all running again and find out the water got in some place else as I only have a week to get it sorted. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  6. I'm just going off redwood have said, I'm guessing it is where water has likely gotten in. :-( Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  7. Right so I've got water in the hydraulic system. Bummer. Now I've spoke to the good people at redwood and I'm going to have to drain the hydraulic system and replace the pump and filter. Now I'm waiting to hear back to order these parts (may have to ring up Monday morning). Luckily I don't need the chipper till Friday as I'm freelance climbing for another company till then but I need to know if I'd be able to sort this by then? How do I go about the whole process? Can I just drain the oil out, take the pump and filter off then replace and refill when the parts get to me? I have to admit it's a little bit daunting but I'm determined to sort it if possible. I'll have evenings up until then to sort it. Has anyone else taken this thing on or is it a real pain in the arse and not worth the hassle? Any advice would be hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance. 8. Hi Alex, Don't be put off by this or get annoyed at yourself. These are all things that come with time. It took myself a good 3 years I'd say to become a fluent and competent climber and even now I have days when everything gets tangled up. Also don't compare yourself to others, I've been doing this for 8 years now and there are much better climbers than myself (some people are just naturally skilled). If you try to focus on one thing that you are cocking up at a time and try and make that thing secondhand nature e.g pulling you main line through each time you need to. Get that sorted then move on to the next thing, if you try and sort everything at once you'll struggle. That's what I found when I started out anyway. Good luck Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  9. It's never been an issue memory-wise, mode you it's a bit of 2x2 it's wrapped around so it's not tight circles. To be honest I've only had a couple of experiences with bad tangles in the past and just decided to give the wrap around a try. So I have not used throw lines straight from a bag in a long time. I may give it a go again sometime. I guess you just stick with what's worked previously. I have a saying that is "pops and pines require throwlines" most other trees I tend to avoid getting the throw line out for as most have lower branches. Not always the case I know. 10. Put a tarp down then. I'd rather unwind it every time as opposed to throwing it up and seeing a brightly coloured birds nest go whizzing up in to the canopy of an ivy ridden mess. Just how I like to do things I guess. Not saying your wrong.
  11. Get a small stick or a bit of 2X2 and wrap it around. I've been to some dark places trying to untangle throw lines in the past but don't seem to get it anymore either. Also it's quicker than feeding it in to the bag. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  12. Noticed hydraulic oil leaking from the filler cap area of my st6 today. It was running all for about 2 hours straight so pretty warmed up. Then did another half hour stint with it this afternoon and it leaked again. The level of the oil is still fairly high but obviously going down. What could be the cause of this? And the cure? All looks pretty normal. I was going to give it more of a proper look over at the yard but by the time I got back lighting was to poor. It's done around 380 hours. And is a 2013 model. Thanks Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  13. Nice work Mr Git, I have watched this thread with no input as I have absolutely no idea how to help out, but I would hope that one day I would have the know how to take on a similar project. Always been one for tinkering around with little projects but not to this scale. Once again good work mate. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  14. Pleased your alright mate. It's one thing I get really pissed off about when people don't wear lids on site. It's so easy to have a simple accident like you did and a lid is the difference between a serious injury or going home safe. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk

  16. I just want to get rid of any unused wires. Plus most vans are 7 pin so saves me forgetting a converter if I end up using other chippers or trailers. I don't have a caravan and don't plan on getting one anytime soon. But I get your point Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  17. Ahh brilliant cheers Rover. That's a big help. I'll get the snips out on Friday. Bloody hate wiring with my sausage fingers. Thank again Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk

  19. Yeah checked all the earthing. Will run a new earth wire to make sure though. So your saying a can just seal off the wires linked to reversing and just use the 7 vital wires? Yeah I guess the hyper-flashing on the chipper is going to need load resistors and hopefully I can get to the bottom of it all Friday afternoon. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  20. No advice sorry but I'll be keeping my eye on this as I really like the originals but just want to know if the extra cash is worth it for these 'new improved' ones. They do seem bloody expensive.
  21. My auto mechanics are pretty limited I can do basic wiring and thats about it so if what I'm saying doesn't make any sense just let me know. So basically my transit when linked to the chipper had hyper-flashing indicators, when I took the trailer away all was well. The chipper is a 7 pin socket and the van a 13, so I have one of those adapters attached to the back of the van at all times. Now recently the van indicators have been hyper-flashing even when the chipper is not attached. Sometimes it goes back to normal indicator speed when my foot is on the brake. I know it is going to be and afternoons work sorting all this crap out (at least). But I am just thinking as I am going to be taking the 13 pin socket off and rewiring to eliminate to possibility the small corrosion in the socket is causing this drama, can I possible just rewire in to a 7 pin socket and take away the adapter completely? If I can do this does any body know what wires I'll be doing away with or joining or is this just a ridiculous idea and just stick with whats there already? I was going to put resistors on the chipper as they are LED bulbs and I'm assuming that is what was causing the hyper-flashing on the chipper due to the resistance but I'm thinking now maybe this may also be resolved changing a 13 to a 7 wire system? probably not. Hope this makes sense and isn't a load of gobbledygook. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
  22. My just be the EGR valve, if it gets clogged up with crap. Clean the air filter and check the spark plugs first though, as these are the easiest options that may cause this kind of problem Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  23. Haha that's great. I did not expect that. Properly just cracked up then. Great stuff Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  24. Wow. I bet the council are throwing the blame on this one all over the office. I don't get if the trees were surveyed and were deemed unsafe why no action was taken? I think that slab is for under the compost bin. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  25. To be honest mate when I saw the tree and the price, I'd have put 4 times the amount on it at least. It was a hell of a tree and one even with the right cash on it I would have still not been happy. With a good drop zone it would have been fine it not fun. But if trees were all in the middle of fields I doubt many of us would have a job. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
