  1. Hi all, looking at getting a Boxer mini skid-steer (not sure which one yet) but just looking for advice and opinions on them really. I was looking at getting a stump grinder also but think it may be better to get a skid steer and have a grinder attachment on it. I wouldn’t be grinding loads but just need it for the odd job. I just anted to know if the grinder attachment is any good and other than a grab what attachments may be useful for tree work? Thanks in advance.
  2. I’ll get some pics of the bits of branches I kept from them tomorrow mate and if you want a couple of bits your more than welcome, they may be a little to small for the wood database though.
  3. Wow that’s a pretty impressive Box. Yeah I’ve seen large box trees before but this didn’t look the same and as I said the bark colour didn’t have a yellow tinge to it.
  4. I didn’t ask unfortunately but I think you may be on to something here. It does seem to be ticking a lot of boxes. It can’t be that common, not in England at least. Thank you for your input.
  5. It’s not Box I don’t think as the wood does not have that yellow colour to it. I have some bits of box wood and it’s not the same. Unless there is a different type of box I’m unaware of.
  6. I’m not a weed smoker anymore but have no objection to it if it’s not in Work time or affecting you the next day. I have worked with Lads who smoked a joint in the morning before work and said to them how would you like it if I drank a few whiskeys before work? They understood and it was stopped. As for tattoos, I see no issue unless you have a profanity tattooed across your forehead. Most tattoos are artwork nowadays and I think most people appreciate them.
  7. Anyone know what this is? I have to climb it to remove a couple of branches over a house on Tuesday. Measures about 35ft and my guess would be Lonicera but if it is I had no idea they grew more than a few feet tall. Also out of curiosity is the wood good for anything? I kept a couple of 2th sticks from the branches just incase it was as sort after as Box in the wood carving world, this I doubt though. Any help would be great and if it is Lonicera and you didn’t realise they could get so big here’s proof.
  8. I agree all I was getting at was if they are out of sight then they are less likely to be pinched. Layers of security are great especially at the yard when the tools are left over night. I was just pointing out I bet most tools get nicked when they are left on the ground whilst people are working.
  9. Sound like you have a pretty good idea lined up. However as khriss just mentioned there is always a way around security if the thief really wants what they see. And that's the key, don't let them see the tools. I don't know any statistics on this but I would imagine most people who have the nerve to pinch tools probably nick them off site while passing. The best defence in preventing this is to keep them out of site. If the product is good enough I'm sure it will sell though. Keep us posted if you do decide to go to the patenting office :-)
  10. £10ph seems like a fair amount if it's just phones and basic office like stuff I'd say more if that extends in to bringing in clients etc
  11. I'd have to agree that you can't just pay a groundie £80 and expect them to be top notch. I pay subbie groundies £100 and climbers £150. But if I make more in a day than I planned I'll sling them an extra £20. I think it keeps people on your side and they deserve it as they work bloody hard. £80 a day is fair for a newby who wants some experience. Also I don't think it's been mentioned but I have no time for big headed idiots, you could be the best climber or grindie in the world but if your cocky and getting on my nerves and the others working for me then your not worth a penny. Same goes for people who moan all the time, I want morale tone high and lads you can have a laugh and a joke with without going too far.
  12. Plenty of trees on common land. That's surely fair game.
  13. Can't speak for their strimmers but I have a air compressor that I got from them a year or so back and it's been bloody brilliant.
  14. But we are surgeons all be it tree surgeons, so I guess it's a kind of ambulance.
  15. Reorganics in keynsham bristol will take any chip as long as it's clean and not full of leaf.
  16. Hi guys, I've got a job coming up at the end of the month, a couple of large Beech trees to come down. The job is a little far for me to do chip runs to my usual spots so I'm just looking for somewhere near by. The job is between Calne and Chippenham so anywhere near by would be great. I'm going to accumulate around 20m3 of chip over 4 days I'd say. If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be great. Cheers
  17. Your not wrong mate. The transit where I used to work held even more because it had doors on the back so coppers couldn't see inside :-/ Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
