  1. Ah yes the dreaded DPF, I’ve heard stories. Is this specific to the Hilux? Or something that all the new adblue engines have to endure? How long does the regen take? As I thought this was supposed to happen during driving but keep hearing more and more that people are having it happen in the middle of a petrol station. Thanks for your input hopefully they will have gotten to the bottom of this corrosion issue before too long. And I think I can live without the radar do-da on the front as I’ve managed my whole driving life without ploughing into the back of someone yet (famous last words). Cheers
  2. Did I say family duties? I meant to put important business trips to picturesque surf spots around the south western coast, silly me [emoji6]. Yeah thanks for the input. Im thinking of buying new and that way getting the warranty.
  3. An old 261 ceased a few months back and it was leaking oil anyway so I brought a new one and put the old one to one side. Had the truck in to have some work done on it today so thought rather than kicking my heals let’s get that old saw apart and see what bits I need to order. I do not know how the poison ended up like this but I’m guessing some plonker has been shoving a screwdriver down thought the spark plug hole. Guess it’s a new piston and barrel then [emoji848].
  4. Just wanted to ask as I know it was brought up earlier in the thread but didn’t really get a proper answer that I’m aware of but all the new Hilux’s are 2.4L, does anyone know what they are like with towing? Going to be getting one this year at some point and it is going to be paired with a twin axle trailer for taking logs away from site and for transporting plant to sites. The reason I was looking at Hilux and a newish one is because it will be used for family holidays as well and being a car for the misses when she needs more space for certain trips. So I want something family friendly but with enough power to be a work horse. Any input would be helpful. Cheers I’m thinking either buy new and have a good warranty or buy something around the 2015-2016 mark if 2.4 doesn’t have the grunt of a 3L.
  5. Quite simply if anyone thinks they should be treated better because of their gender, race or sexuality then they are an utter idiot in my eyes. People are people. It’s not right she will probably get a year but lying about something all be it a scummy thing to do it is not rape, if she had rapped someone then I’m sure her proposed sentence would have been closer to 20 years, or at least I hope it would. Unfortunately there are people out there falsely accused of all sorts of crimes but that is just the messed up world we live in. The real issue with any of this lies in the fact that anyone of a previously suppressed group will want justice for history and rightly so but there is a line as to how far that should be taken, everyone has a different opinion about that line.
  6. I'd love to see the wind machine to test this theory on a mature beech tree. To be honest I think this makes sense but as others have said the theory is based on a young tree which needs the trunk to be supple. If I saw a trunk bending like that on a 200 year old tree I'd be running away. The only thing I will say that I find is early mentioned to customers i fear is that once you reduce that tree you will have it coming back denser and with more sail effect in 2-6 years time then you will be reducing it again. Sorry if I have missed the point I have only just scanned the article but will look at in in the week when I have a bit more time, I am quite interested.
  7. I'd say you have to look in to getting some form of accreditation such as Chas registered or safe contractor etc, as bigger contractors early give you the time of day if you don't have one or some of these. But as others have mentioned this brings on bigger headaches, more time in the office sorting out crap paperwork and bigger companies who want to employ you want the job done yesterday and will wait right up until the 3 month make to pay you. If you want to increase profits I would advertise more and possibly try and cover a slightly wider area and maybe have a small team running around doing the smaller jobs hedge trimming and small trees and the main team with you in going out to do the bigger stuff (jobs where you want to make sure everything is running smoothly). Thank way you could get away with just getting a big trailer and a small truck for the second team or if you have that or no someone who does factor them in to cost. This being said I am myself looking in to getting Chas registered but thinking do I really need the stress of bigger contracts. Just my two pence
  8. I now mix all fuel myself as I had this happen about 6 months ago. If the saw ends up knackered due to unmixed fuel, I can only blame myself. When I go out and climb for someone else I make sure I check the colour of the fuel and fuel up my own saws first thing.
  9. Hello people I am looking for an extra pair of hands on Thursday the 21st and Friday the 22nd of this month. With work getting busy at the moment I am looking for someone for those dates and probably more work in the future. Ideally looking for a grounds man or someone looking to get there foot in the door. I am a small firm with a couple of Subbie staff but seem to be getting more work in and need to look at getting a few more people to call on for the odd day. You can send me a PM or contact Eric on 07725951006, if I don’t answer leave a message and I’ll get back to you. Thank you people.
  10. Gotta hate a dead robinia or pop, snappy horrible things that you can’t rig off of. Hangers can be a pain in the backside when reducing ash or chestnut but I tend to assume that’s going to happen and don’t get to disheartened when it does happen.
  11. Ah brilliant thank you Nick. I’ll look them up.
  12. Bringing and old topic I started back up. I looked at some mini skid steers at the show today and I am dead set on getting one. I liked the stuff Ditch Which had, anyone had any use with these machines? any issues to speak of? I have looked at a few options and have Vermeer, Boxer and Ditch witch in the line up. However vermeer are based a little to far north for me if something goes wrong I don't fancy a 4 hour trip. I noticed the Boxeruk site is down and I can't fine anything of them on google anymore, its like they have vanished? does anyone know if they are still based in Tetbury? I'm getting the feeling that unless I import I'm not going to be fining a second hand machine and am going to have to accept £20,000-25,000(with attachments). or has anyone on here imported plant over from the US? good idea or a really terrible one? Any thoughts or ideas as always are greatly welcomed. Hope you all have a good Arbshow for those that went.
  13. Got a set of carbon geckos and have done whole days on them chogging stems down and my back was the only thing aching afterwards. Best spikes I have ever owned and would not look at anything else. Also they have lasted a fair old while with no signs of giving up yet 10/10. The ally ones are almost as good but not as cool looking.
  14. They were on about fly-tipping on the radio earlier today and it’s amazing the amount of people who think that it is completely fine to tip there crap in areas of beauty all over this country. Bunch of lazy wastes of oxygen.
  15. That sign is a bit ironic isn’t it
  16. Can’t believe that didn’t go worse really. I could see that building having a few more dents than that
  17. Update on the situation. I cleared out the drop plate under the bottom roller and the squeak has not been back. There were a couple of bits of chip wedged along the side of the rollers also so that may have been the issue. Thanks Mick for the tip. Need to set aside more time to clean the equipment out I think.
  18. I’m not old, however I’m starting to realise that I’m not young anymore. I would rather listen to radio 4 as I can’t stand the crap on other radio stations, aka head myself. I get annoyed by speeding cars, why are they in a hurry, it can’t be that important that they have to cut me up. Nights out leave me with a week long hangover, I plan my nights out before I go on holiday nowadays. Whisky is the preferred drink. A good crossword can be the days highlight. I’ve pretty much given up caring what clothes I wear, if it’s comfy it’s going on. But one of the most interesting things I have noticed about getting older is the more I care about learning new things, I want to learn more about science, the planet, languages, cultures, history, trees, and music including instruments. I almost get annoyed that there is not enough time to learn more. Just me or is this a universal thing?
  19. I bet he could do with a fag after that ordeal.
  20. It’s good that this has cost them but let’s be fair that £600 odd is probably not going to be much of a deterrent. I find it hard to believe the customer wasn’t the one saying ‘take more off’ though. Whenever I have to work to spec I always find the customer is saying just another few feet please. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is media spin blaming the companies making them look like the worst kind of person. Not saying they were in the right just find it hard to believe it was all on them. That is unless the climber was super lazy.
  21. Thank you but I’m not really going to get a chance to speak tomorrow day as Work is going to be a little hectic. However if I can’t diagnose the issue I may call you guys up on Thursday to see if I can get to the bottom of it. Cheers :-)
  22. I’m not sure about a split line, I have run my fingers along them all and not found anything, looking at the lines I’d say they have grease all the way through but it’s hard to tell as it not opaque. So it’s just a light brown colour. Hoping its not just grease on the line and it is actually running all the way through. As I said I’m going to give it a good look through tomorrow evening and try and solve the issue.
  23. Good luck with the next phase Steve. At least you finished with a good reduction. Would have been a bugger if didn’t turn out as planned. Well done
  24. Hi Mick, No I haven’t yet. I will do this Wednesday evening when I have a bit of time to do some maintenance. I’ll let you know if that was the issue. It does sound like something rubbing so fingers crossed that’ll solve the issue and stop me worrying about the bearings. Cheers
  25. Yep same here. I just have the basics on the email quote like ‘all waste taken’ and ‘work to BS3998’ then ‘full terms and conditions pleased visit website’. As Mr git said get them to reply saying they want to go ahead as I have been caught out in the past by someone saying they really want the work done and booked in a date then turned round and said they never said that. You don’t want to do a job and then not get paid.
